Ever tempted to replace for a GS? I’ve had two BMW’s but replaced with a Honda. Boring. So wanna go back to BMW and am looking at the XR and the GS1300.
I do love a bike with less tech at my age lol but you have to give BMW credit for such a beautiful looking and well built bike. Great review and aswome scenery.
Hi from Australia, love Ur reviews Kate, extremely honest with objective assessments of all these beautiful bikes. Love Ur sense of humour it's missing in a lot of UA-cam clips. I especially liked this one, beautiful ride mate
The clinical way the BMWs ride with all the electronic equipment may not be to everyone’s liking but for most riders they probably wouldn’t have the skill to ride a 200 hp bike if it was actually unleashed with all the aids turned off. The easier a bike is to ride the better it is for everyday riding , that’s why I said the R1250r is probably the best bike out there and I’ve ridden loads of different bikes but none of them do everything as good as that bike and all the extras are already fitted 👍🏾great review on the XR Kate 🎉
Kate this is a terrific and nicely balanced review. I admire your approach. Definitely big bike and you dangling your legs was pleasantly comic. Much appreciated.
Another great review Kate. Love your videos. Thanks for sharing your review and thanks for sharing details on Seat height plus clarifying details on vibrations.
Some people waste their time, and mine, doing Moto Reviews, and don't earn or deserve the YT pennys they get for doing so..., and then we have the opposite..., to which you belong! A moto-vlogging-professional that earns (not enough) and deserves (plenty more) pennys than you receive for every Bike review you do here on YT. You have bought this down to a fine art, and can fire up a flame in my belly, just by using your extensive knowledge (as is in this case) or conveying your solid research on other brands, into the part of my brain that says "Steve you need to buy this". And when your knowledge or research should fail you..., you expertly manage to cover it up with your loveable wit and Lancashire Lass personality. If I owned a Motorcycle brand, you would certainly be my number 1 go-to UA-camr for every new model I put out on the Market. I never stop being amazed at how often, you seem able to make me wanna have a ride on a bike that I would NEVER consider riding let alone buying, as is the case with this ugly monstrosity. But worst of all, you have the ability to give me the feeling that my Garage (and bank account) are too small for all the Bikes you constatly "say I need to buy" (well that's how I interpretate it)!! I'm sure you could sell me my dead grandmother's Denture if it had two wheels on it! Stay vigilant and ride safe, S.
Loved the review kate ,also loved your appreciation of the scenery, something me and my mate Chris do ,when we see something beautiful and end up going slower, to take it in
The M-XR is an incredible bike, and I would not hesitate passing up the Ducati for the M-XR. I think the 170 hp XR is a better street bike for those that don't seriously track their bikes.
I agree. I think the M 1000XR would crush the ducati diavel v4 in nearly every category; from comfort, to long distance touring, to outright high end speed...
Those roads! Ooof. I was mightily impressed by the B5105 and B4501 from Ruthin towards Llan Brenig is something to behold, too. I was shown them the other week and was blown away. Your content just gets better and better 👍
Great review, own a S1000XR already and the M is a beauty! One thing, BMW and the dealers have to stop giving out these bikes with the RPMs locked. With the lock in place (the first 600 miles) the bike only gives around 1/2 the horsepower, you can't get the engine into the real power. I have no idea why they are doing this, I've seen a few reviews so far and at least 1/2 of them are riding locked bikes. Be like Ford asking you to test the new Mustang and disconnecting half the spark plug leads!
Another great weather country twistys ride and review. The proud stance of that BMW XR is fantastic, color scheme is very appealing i think. And I've discovered how beautiful the UK really is, thru your chanel. So thanks Kate.
Thanks for sharing - great review, interesting bike and superb scenery/ route. You got really lucky with the weather which really showed off the countryside as well! Thanks again 😎
Another top notch video Kate. The pro's, con's and who it's aimed at after riding the bike is spot on. Top end power figures are great for top trumps but it's how that power is delivered that matters most. I doubt many will actually unleash the 201 equine beasts in one go often if any of the time on 'normal' roads but if you want add a few more members to the herd they are available with plenty of headroom to add even more. Many thanks for sharing. Fantastic views bring back some very fond memories from decades ago riding in Derbyshire.
What I found to be a bit strange is the position of the footpegs when I put my feet down. They are somehow always in the way. Either the calves or the shins hit them. But otherwise a nice bike for sure. The one thing I personally have to disagree on is the dash though. Or maybe the information it shows. The resolution and possibility to read it in any light is really good. But KTMs dash and menu interface is better in my opinion. With KTM you can get the fuel gauge, trip, tire pressure and battery voltage at the same time and still read the speed nicely with gear indication etc. With BMW you have a giant rpm indication which looks nice, but on the street is basically useless and for all other information you have to cycle constantly thru the indication or go into the bike info page within the menu. Didn´t stop me from buying a BMW, but I don´t like that aspect to be honest.
Great review. I’ve been wanting this M bike since it was first leaked. I am one of those blokes that was intimidated by the power! You’ve put my mind at ease. You are a much better rider than I, but I now feel that it’s something I can grow the balls big enough to own!
I have the S1000XR, you'll be fine if you're intelligent about it. The bike is "locked" for the first ~600 miles (this one was, you can see it on the tach; everything above ~7K RPMs is red/unavailable) and won't make more than about 100HP. If you keep the bike out of the powerband (from around 7K-12K), it's not bonkers at all, very moderate and linear power. When you go above that though.... Well, hold on. My S1000XR is mental in high RPMs, it just builds so much power so fast it's amazing; and this bike is even faster!! Anyway, to your concern, as long as you can control yourself, the bike will not be intimidating at all in lower RPMs and, no matter what, you can't feel the power until you have 600 miles on the bike, so you'll have some time to get used to it. Also, there are many rider modes, you can turn down the power delivery until you feel ready for more.
Yep. I got 2023 S1000XR with M paket, Dynamic and Touring. Everything is soooo light, smooth, extremely easy to handle to the point where I feel like I'm riding a 50 kg toy. It's perfect for longer rides, but yeah, I miss the feeling very often. I have to buy a second motorbike, considering something like Indian, to balance that :) I rly recommend S1000XR, worth all the money. But not as single motorbike maybe.
Brilliant Brilliant coverage as usual Kate. Amazing engine and electronics add up to a stunningly capable bike. But for me the price is quite steep, plus the vibes would be a negative. Love your down to earth explanations.
Been waiting for your review on this so thanks very much! I like the concept of the MXR. Mental but also comfortable/versatile. What’s not to like?! (Other than the price…). Nice one Kate 👍
The rear calliper is a different shade of blue to the front callipers, once seen it stands out, for that price they could have matched them or left it the usual black colour as the same as the normal one.
sooooo a good review i love it, it is really straight to the point... I have having 2023 GSA1250 and an S1000RR M full pkg and am replacing both bikes with the M1000XR black carbon which will replace both bikes and enjoy both expectations which i will be limited to off-road thats all I guess what do you think
I think you've hit the nail on the head. It's a nice crossover for both those bikes mentioned and if you're not bothering about going offroad, it's not a bad shout! 😊
@@UsernameKate one more thing coz am to close of the deal of getting the MXR with the s1000rr m riding position and stability pls tell me I looooove my s1krr I am looking for a comfort :(
Lol at the Forrest Gump impression with the squirrel. Had to honk at a little buddy the other day because it was just sitting in the middle of a fairly busy road.
Awesome video! Beautiful countryside and views. What a bike! I would love to have one but I can't justify it. I have a '22 GS fixed just the way I want it and it's too close in years. I would get killed. Really great review ! Best!
Your balance and strength must be amazing to hold it up right stationary like that, very impressive. Also great review too 👍🏼. Compared to the s1000xr would you say it’s only more powerful at the top end or is it quicker all the way through the rev range ? Many thanks
I don't know what market is for the XR. It's not a Sports Tourer or an Adventure bike either. BMW call it a "CROSSOVER". Yet another genre to add to all the others. For the price, I'd have the 1300GS with all the techy gizmos or the K1600 GTL/GT.
The standard XR is most certainly a sports touring bike. In fact, it kind of defines the market, bonkers power with a full set of bags and reasonable passenger accommodations. The M, however, because it doesn't have bag mounts, is really more a superbike with a higher suspension and more comfortable riding position. I'd agree, it's not really a sports tourer, but the standard XR, that (or the Multistrada) are really the definition of "sports touring". The K1600 is a touring bike, most certainly not a sports anything! The 1300 is more an adventure touring bike, it has real off road chops, the XR.. Well, you can do it; I have, but it's not really setup for dirt/fire roads.
If you had turned left at 19:32, you would have ridden passed where one of the Mission Impossible scenes was shot with the train flying off a cliff into a quarry.
Kate, great to immerse myself in one of your vids. Thanks for that. I have a question that no one has been able to answer for me yet, not even the bmw dealer, I’d like to know how exactly the suspension differs on the MXR from the current XR which I own and know to be a bit bouncy but still soft on my bad back. Would it be possible to set the preload on the MXR to be plush for touring if needed?!
It has Dynamic Electronic Suspension Adjustment so on the move, it adjusts the Suspension to the type of riding you do, if you're pushing on, it'll go stiffer, if you're plodding it'll be a bit softer. The Suspension on this on the move is dreamy 😊
Another 1st class video Kate, if I had 22.7k I would consider a test ride after watching this well presented informative and entertaining vlog. Keep up the great work 👍👍👍💪
All your reviews are enjoyable Kate. I love the look and sound, they do handle very well. I bought a 21 xr1000 new full hard luggage, motorad colours. But l after having had fireblades and going from a 1200rs went back to 1250rs because it was too vibey and l missed the boxer engine 😊
I have been intrigued by the XR, both the S and the M (no pun intended). Now, I'm a man, at 5'10" in height, but my Welsh genetics have given me the same length legs as you. Now, when we see a lady of your stature master a tall bike, it's genuinely impressive, but when we see a man of 'normal' height fighting with his tall bike, due to to his dutty legs, it's great comedy for others, not so much for myself😂. I think I'll have to pass on the XR😏.
0:23 in my personal opinion the whole liter bike era is drawing to a end, for many reasons including the non attainable net zero 'green' agenda, increase in camera speed traps, reduction in speeds over the whole country, increases in fuel cost and especially the insurers ever rising costs, I always ask the question other than track, where are you going to use this sort of thing in every day use 🤷🏻♂️ imo
Very nice bike undoubtedly, not sure whether it’s worth it over a S1000XR but whatever floats your boat I guess. Been watching all the reviews of the launch of the new XSR900GP, I think you need to get a ride on one of those when they become available.
I’m in the same boat. The gs has better wind protection so cold weather riding is not a problem and a much bigger fuel capacity. The xr is a lot more fun
Hi Kate, what area was this you were driving round and in particular that road you took when you ended up overlooking a bridge next to a car park and a pub.. you actually stopped the bike and said how beautiful it was ? We are off to Peak district tomorrow so was considering paying it a visit
Right, I was very lost at that moment but I think what I was looking down on was the Monsal Dale - Headstone Viaduct. I'm still trying to find the road on Google maps. I'll let you know when I do!
@UsernameKate I think we found it after pausing your video and crawling up to the TV trying decipher a road sign.. lol... we think it's Wardlow, Buxton SK17 8RP. Will be riding out that way this weekend as we are exploring peak district so Jess gets a few more miles under her belt.
Haha so funny watching you get on the big beastie. I ordered my MXR with the extra high seat which gives even more comfort, though I can only just flat foot it and I am tall.
Kate .. with the restricted throttle on the new bike, do you really feel like you had a thorough ride? I kind of feel like it’s hard to say when throttle is limited, whether or not the bike truly performs.
Absolutely not. I own a S1000XR and the experience of that bike before and after the 600 mile service (where the restrictions come off) is like going from a scooter to a Z06 Corvette. With the restrictions on, I'd be surprised if this bike tops 100HP. Once that first service is done, then the beast comes to life. ;)
I'm sure I'd be blown away if I rode one but if I were to own one the least worst case scenario I'd be even more frustrated with cameras, potholes, etc. than I already am. Second I'd lose my license, third I'd lose more than my license. So, for me, there is no point. Plus it's vibey (really, starting price of £22k and it's vibey enough for it to be a problem?) and it's a BMW. For the same money you could have a good tourer and a good track bike...
Would love to upgrade from my S, but until they add back the luggage the M is no use to me sadly. Feels odd to make the ultimate sports tourer then scupper it for touring. 🤷
Great day to meet ya. Sabooorrrr! In spanglish! Or as saintly paul newman said somewhere - if I were 100 years younger - you’d be in BIG trouble, (. me bonnie lass.)
It was but it also wasn't 🤣🤣 on the hill over the viewpoint at the end... it was so steep and the hill hold isn't the smoothest when released. It kinda artificially holds you until you give it enough revs and kinda surges you out 🤣 just wanted to use the back brake and go 🤣
@@UsernameKateyeah I’ve got an R and it’s just a little too grabby as well. Not sure how much that’s the system or how much it’s just you not having the control over it but the next gen needs to let you creep forward pulling through the brake a little as it lets go
Fun bike and plenty of bragging rights down the pub. Reckon just as well get an S1000rr. Never noticed any serious vibes on the ones I've had. Toured and plenty of track days on them. Great bikes.
We have to be serious... brands still insist on launching bikes with 200bhp to ride on the street, but today, bikes with these powers are relatively easy to ride because of the great development of electronics. To seriously exploit a bike with 200 hp requires being in an appropriate place, on a closed circuit, and having riding skills similar to a Jonhatan Rea. 99% of people can't exploit 70% of what a bike like that delivers, this is reality..... for the road, any bike with 100/120 hp and weighing around 200 and a few kg is enough.
Did your test bike have Dynamic ESA suspension? I'm only 2" taller than you and my '23 1250GS can go from acceptable to no-fluffin-way tall depending on which suspension setting it's in. Also when the ignition is off it's much taller and stiffer. You probably know this of course, but people watching might not. :)
Aye, this bike doesn't come with an option to be without the D-ESA :) Bloody beautiful on the move and very adaptive - Just at 63kg at the mo, it wasn't for registering my backside sat on it haha
Tried an S version [24 plate]...odd seating position...sit in the bike...and seat not comfortable...sharp edged despite supposedly improved. Lots, lots, of vibration through seat and pegs as well. Much prefer the RR...back's fine just the wrists that get grief especially downhill.
I haven't tried the 24 S1000XR. But that's interesting because I found this seat blissful. I found the 23 and early S1000XR to cut into my legs a bit and just fixed you in one place!
@@UsernameKate The M seat is different, though may just be looks. But wouldn't take my word for anything as I must be a bit of a freak as I hated the Ducati 698 hypermotard especially around town...unuseable for me...pure track or carpark bike I reckon....having said that I ride a CRF450RX...and I'd give good money to see you test ride that....might need a milk crate...I'm 6 foot and when no-one's looking use the pegs to climb aboard. Oh and yeah...the video was great....liked the visor flip....loveholes lol.
A touring bike that uses a motor with no counter balancer. Great. I wish things would be as cool as they seem. The r1250RS is probably the perfect bike (judging as a GSA owner)….so I’d rather risk one of those. Oh wait, R1300RS?!?!?!?
Well Kate, thanks for another unicorn review, and I mean that sincerely as I unfortunately will never be able to afford one of these a 21k base models, so thanks again and PS who doesn’t love holes 😂😂😂 except pot holes….
a suspension-way camera only to check "how many riders use the full way..." - not so much diff. to gs models change boxer-watercooled to in-line four ...and what next ? lower the sale-price that will bring big new's !!! ✌️☘️
Really want to believe there's a place in the world called love holes 🤣🤣🤣 thanks Kate good review just a little on the pricey side for my shallow pockets
@UsernameKate En contraire....this is the magic of your channel: being real without fakery...just love it. Stay safe and keep us entertained with more future videos.

Awww shucks!!!!!
I’ve owned 3 x XR’s, all mental bikes. I’m taking delivery of the new M shortly. I’m starting to think it’s not the bike that’s mental, but me.
Nothing wrong with you if you've gone through 3 XR's with your life and all your limbs intact😂😂😮
You could always just adjust the preload 🤔
I'd say you're one that chases the latest fad, but as they say each to their own, I still own my 2019 Multistrada and I'm happy with it

Hahah no way!
Still miss my XR. Fantastic bike, never bought the new model as the seat was horrible. Pity, seem to have improved it now.
There’s an after market for seats for every motorcycle in existence my guy
I’ve got the 21 plate s1000XR and it’s lovely I had mine factory lowered.
If that seats more comfortable I wonder if I can buy that seat for my bike.
Seems like a nice bike Kate! I’m curious though, what is is the common octane of your gasoline there? I think it’s higher than here in Canada.
Haha I think people get a good laugh out of me too don't worry 🤣 either that or a head shake of disapproval 👀
I'm the same, 6ft tall, with a long body but short little legs !!
check out the lowered version
Had mine 8 years, have short legs not dropped it yet touch wood
0:23 in my personal opinion the whole liter bike era is drawing to a end, for many reasons including the non attainable net zero 'green' agenda, increase in camera speed traps, reduction in speeds over the whole country, increases in fuel cost and especially the insurers ever rising costs, I always ask the question other than track, where are you going to use this sort of thing in every day use 🤷🏻♂️ imo
Excellent review
Very nice bike undoubtedly, not sure whether it’s worth it over a S1000XR but whatever floats your boat I guess.
Been watching all the reviews of the launch of the new XSR900GP, I think you need to get a ride on one of those when they become available.
It's about time you did some growing, you've been 5ft 4ins for ages. Are you eating properly?
I know, I'm not being watered correctly, sunlights limited in the UK too
You look great on that machine
Would you go for an 1000XR or R1250RS for primarily road riding?
Amazing!! 🥰🥰🥰
Saw you (again) on The Motorbike Show last night. Excellent stuff. The episode in question happens to be on ITV4 tomorrow night at 8pm I think 👍
Looks like the hill hold would have been handy.
If I could only have one bike, and didn’t need to do dirt, this would be the one.
Not sure how much that’s the system or how much it’s just you not having the control over it but the next gen needs to let you creep forward pulling through the brake a little as it lets go
Only kicked in on that one occasion so not enough trying it out haha
Does the cruise control work over 140mph?
Does this bike have height suspension like 1300 gs?
Unfortunately not
Nice one Kate who needs to touch the floor anyway, red lights are a suggestion aren’t they…..
I think the exhaust which looks like it's falling off spoils the looks more than the front wheel.
Thank you 😃🤙 I think your jeans are perfect..😊 nice bike love the competition version looks well naughty
Good review. There’s a low suspensions version for this bike
Incorrect unfortunately. Seat height reduction (lowered version) only available on the S1000XR, not M1000XR. Thanks for the kind words!
@@UsernameKate yes you’re right not on the M version
👍
@@UsernameKate Yeah the 24 XR locks you in one place as well and has sharp edges (which you only feel if you hang off)...
nooooooooo :') I thought... cant be talking about the M!! I could sit in that all day
คุณมีความสูง😊😊😊

Perfecto 💯 Kate 👌🌹
Test? Where?
A touring bike that uses a motor with no counter balancer. Great. I wish things would be as cool as they seem. The r1250RS is probably the perfect bike (judging as a GSA owner)….so I’d rather risk one of those. Oh wait, R1300RS?!?!?!?
Is it excessive? Yes. Should you be glad it exists? Also Yes.
1000% we LOVE choice!!
Well Kate, thanks for another unicorn review, and I mean that sincerely as I unfortunately will never be able to afford one of these a 21k base models, so thanks again and PS who doesn’t love holes 😂😂😂 except pot holes….
a suspension-way camera only to check "how many riders use the full way..."
- not so much diff. to gs models change boxer-watercooled to in-line four ...and what next ?
lower the sale-price that will bring big new's !!! ✌️☘️
When they make a 1000XR with shaft drive il buy one until then il stick with what I’ve got 🤷🏻♂️
Really want to believe there's a place in the world called love holes 🤣🤣🤣 thanks Kate good review just a little on the pricey side for my shallow pockets
Impressive only 5kg more than my bandit with all the new gizmos
Bouncing from one foot to another on the bike was funny😂...
It's such a shame haha! 🫣
@UsernameKate En contraire....this is the magic of your channel: being real without fakery...just love it. Stay safe and keep us entertained with more future videos.
was gonna buy this bike after my 2022 xr, but no hard luggauge means no sale for me
understandable!
very nice kate,if you can I would also like to see and Grand America
What an absolute beast, amazing machine (at a price) Love holes 😂 What are you like
Bloody love holes 😭😭😭
Just watched to see if you drop it.
Ahhh sorry to disappoint bubs!
I love hanging out at Love Holes 👀
I'm just grateful you said 'at' and not 'of' tbf 🤣
@@UsernameKate 😂😂😂😂
