For months, I could not figure out manual mode when shooting sports and I got so frustrated shooting mediocre photos in automatic. This video SAVED me! Thank you so much for this!!! I'm very proud of the photos I take now because of this video
I agree I was right there with you. These settings are right on..
same here!
I am a absolutely beginner. This was the best video I have found. Instant gratification in seeing the difference. When there are so many options, it can be overwhelming. This was clear and right to the points. Thank you! I will be watching more of your videos.
You are seriously my favorite person right now. So helpful, direct, and simple. Thank You!
I second this, dudes a hero. Helped me so much.
Excellent. You get right to the point and show exactly what to do without wasting our time with excessive talk. WELL DONE !!!
Thanks Larry!
Excessive talk is the bit you need to learn though. It's not this simple.
If that was still to bright at ss1000, f2.8 ISO3200 you should lower ISO as noise will be seriously reduced
Thanks I have been trying to figure out how to take Baseball pics at my son's games at night. Will try this when Baseball resumes.
Tried your settings tonight at a basketball game...it worked! So glad my wife (post production) didn’t gripe about shooting AV!! Thanks
Outstanding! Glad it worked out.
I have a quinceañera job this weekend and it'll be my first actual paid photography job , this video has helped ease my nerves with the helpful tips
I haven’t been using my 80D as much as I’d like, mostly do to a few changes in life. Though a few indoor concerts coming up this weekend and planning on bringing my Canon.
Thanks for sharing your experience with the Canon DSLR.
Tim.
You the man! I bought a rebel camera to start for sport photography, i have a lot of friends who play basketball that are paying me to take their photos!
Best video eva’ thank you for the detail and showing
1 stop manual mode shooting video! Thank you!
Thank you for being clear and easy to learn from!!!! Watched hours of other tutorials and you are the BEST for this football Momma!!!
I agree. So easy and I can’t wait to test this out. I have only used the sport mode for football and soccer.
My son also plays basketball and I can never figure out how to get good pictures .
Also now he will be playing football under the lights soon and I want to practice
Thank You so much for the Information! I know it will help Me in the future!
thank you so much this helped so so much!!
I have a cannon EOS rebel. This video was very helpful. Thank you for posting. I followed the your directions but I do have a question. My camera has a sports setting. Should I set it on sports setting or auto? Or do I leave it on manual to shoot the photos?
Great tips thanks!!!
Great info thanks.
My aperture will only go as low as 4.5. I have a 55-250mm lens on. It is an older model of the Canon Rebel T3.
Thanks bro , it's at the exact point 👌
Thank you! I really want to take photo's of my son's soccer games at night. This was really helpful, can't wait to try.
Very helpful, thank you!
Very good video thank you
I'm going to take team game photos this evening for a football game. I'll come back and give an update on how it went! Thank you for this video! *Using Canon M50*
i'm a beginner, and i'm scouring the internet for information and i do have a question/confirmation. If you are moving the shutter speed up you are stopping the motion at a given point, what if you want to keep some blur. Hypothetical, not sure if i'd like a blur or not but it would depend on the motion and sport i'm taking pictures of. Are there other options to adjust to get a little blur and still have a sharp picture?
Thanks brother . From Malaysia
Thanks, new rebel t7, got in over my head.
This is a fantastic video!! Thank you! That being said, on Manual it won't let me go below F5.0...does that mean I need a new lens? I have a 18-135 on EOS 60D
Yes.
Can I use theese settings for family photo with Christmas tree in background?
My canon EOS xsi only goes to f4.0 and the highest ISO is 1600. Will this still work? Is there any I can buy that would allow me to get great indoor and outdoor (under lights) sports pictures?
What do I do if my camera f stop can’t go that low
The lowest aperture available on the camera is F4.5?
My Rebel 7 will not go below 4.0. Any ideas why?
but a higher ISO means grainy pictures, how would you fix that? it seems that my 1.4 50mm on my t5i gets really grainy after ISO 1600
Thinking of using my canon 850 d cropped body to shoot indoor volleyball, my 6d with 100-400mm lens is just not producing the pics I want, I have tried multiple modes and tips with a monopod and just not achieving clear pics with the right lighting or speed. Do you shoot indoor sports with one shot instead of continuous??
Hey, Wendy, great question. I offer Zoom/Facetime or phone meetings where I can answer any questions you have about photography. Please contact me through my website at www.travisbellcreative.com
What camera are you using to allow the ISO so high and still get quality photos? My 80 d starts loosing it that high
An 80d should still give you good results at 3200. If not, use Lightroom to lower the Noise
What lens do you use for your shots?
What is a good lens for indoor sports? I currently have a 75-300 and cant get all the setting exactly to what you recommend
70-200 f/2.8
Hello, thank you for this video, really helpful tips! I have a question. I have the cannon eos rebel t7. I am unable to get my aperture to the 2.8, it will only go to 4.5 with the setting you suggest. What can I do? I'm shooting my nephews basketball ball games for his school and i want to do a great job for him, I'm very amateur so any tips will be appreciated as far as what the other setting should be too. Some of the settings you mentioned here are not shown on my model or maybe they are called something else and I'm just ignorant of the names. Thanks in advance!
Hey, Megan, I offer Facetime/Skype session that go into more details. Contact me via my website at www.travisbellcreative.com. Thanks.
I prompted chatgpt with the same problem and it gives useful suggestions as to how the other settings adjust according to our problem. And then you can test out those settings.
Try to be specific about the situation in your prompt.
Not sure if you're still responding to posts but, I have a 7D (no mark) and I use very similar setting and I struggle with grain in a bad way. I get some pictures that are crisp(ish) where you can see details of hair and shoe laces clearly, but the grain is horrible (very visible) on the skin, clothing and background. This can be corrected in photoshop, however there is a loss of photo quality. So, either I'm still doing something wrong or my camera just sucks.
I'll try your setting tomorrow night and I'll return with an update (hopefully).
Will be happy to help out. I offer phone/facetime sessions to help out with questions like this. There's a a two week wait list. If you'd like sign up, visit www.travisbellphotography.com and follow the contact link to get more info.
I have a canon ESO rebel t100 and my pasture only goes down to 4.0. I do barrel racing evenings so highly action type shots and some during the day and some at night and I have issues with the evening/night images. Any advice?
Thanks Chantal! I offer Facetime/Phone Tutorial Sessions regarding this. I can be reached through the contact page on my website at this link. www.travisbellphotography.com/contact
Hi Travis, You appear to double the Shutter Speed if indoor images are too bright, why not decrease the ISO instead to prevent noise? Also at f/2.8 would you not get images out of focus due to the shallow DOF? Thanks.
If it's sports photography, it's better to double the shutter speed so the camera will freeze the action. F 2.8 is perfect for sports. The goal is for the players(s) to be sharp and the background to be as soft as possible. This picture I made of Kobe Bryant blocking Lebron James is a perfect example. www.travisbellphotography.com/index/G0000FwKA_kghaWg/I00002LfztIg_jg4
what if my shutter speed doesn’t go past 200? and my aperture won’t go below F5.6?
Hey Charlotte, that won't work for nighttime sports. You'll need to upgrade your gear.
I have a Rebel T7 and some of these settings aren’t available on my camera. Could you help?
Hey, Connor, I offer Facetime/Skype session that go into more details. Contact me via my website at www.travisbellcreative.com. Thanks.
Travis, Thank you for the info. I am shooting my daughter playing indoor volleyball. The problem is I do not have a lens f2.8. HELP?
I offer Facetime/Skype sessions if you need help. Contact me through my website for pricing details at www.travisbellcreative.com.

What do I do if my appeture won’t go past F4.0??
its a limitation of the lense you have. U gotta buy some lense which have wider aperture.. unfortunately its expensive
@@h3nriqu33 Start out at 500 shutter speed, F4 at 6400 ISO and make adjustments as needed. Refer to video on raising or lowering ISO for proper exposure.
But you need a lens that goes down to f2.8 .. mine doesn’t. (kit camera lens with EOS R .. RF24-105mm F4-7.1 IS STM)
Our gyms are so bad, I would be in heaven if I could get an ISO of 3200. I have a hard time getting decent images of basketball. I gave up and quit shooting in gyms mainly because there is just too much editing time to try and make it look decent.
sorry you're having trouble! try investing in an F2 or F 1.4 lens.
Metering?? Why Not Auto ISO?? Thanks
What if I can’t go lower than F5.6??
What lens are you using?
It depends on the sport.
What if exposure is good but there is image blurring?
Try increasing your shutter speed.
When I am in these settings I can no view my images?? Help
Hey, Susan, I offer Facetime/Skype sessions that go into more details. Contact me via my website at www.travisbellcreative.com. Thanks.
What if my lens is only 4 and not 2.8?
You'll need to invest in a lens that can be set to F4 or F 2.8.
Will this settings work for a T7i?
Yes
Thank you , I appreciate the way you explained everything
my cameras iso only goes up to 1600 😭
What if my apperature won't go below 3.5?
Start out at 500 shutter speed, F3.5 at 5000 ISO and make adjustments as needed. Refer to video on raising or lowering ISO for proper exposure.
Because your lens cannot do 2.8...
I can’t go to F2.8 I have a canon rebel t6
If you can go to F4, increase your ISO to 6400 instead of 3200
Because it is your lens, 2.8 is reserved to higher priced lens, buy a 2.8... or try shooting with a 1.8 50mm... they are super cheap and you will get even less iso with them...
best
what if my iso doesn’t go past 6400
6400 iso indoors should be high enough iso to capture images.
Are we shooting in sport mode?
TV Mode. Please see first 25 seconds of video.
What if my f won’t go down to 2.8
#KeepPounding
there is something called noise brother.
Indeed! Check out Lightroom. It's great for reducing noise.
