I smiled when you said half of your suitcase would be art supplies and yarn! I don't leave the house most days without my knitting project because I wouldn't want to be in a situation with nothing to do. ❤

Thank you for sharing. Unfortunately, all the more "developed" countries are keen to get rid of physical money, but your experience shows that that just gives them more of a hold over us!

Wow, what a story that is! So scary not being able to trust the banks. So glad you made the right call and didn't lose your savings. Having enough money is the bedrock of my financial planning... not too much, not too little...just enough to feel as safe and secure as possible. Your stories really help me to understand how these big world events affect people in other places. Thank you and bless you.

Thank you, Ana, for your interesting story. I agree with you that it is impossible really to trust any system, as ordinary people mean nothing to any financial or political system. Also, like you, I could not exist without art. So keep creating your art.

What a great video! Wise words based on personal experience. I don't trust the system either. In the US, they have been taking us down a long road of complacency and now we are speeding towards an economic crisis. I'm too old to be very afraid, but I'm also too old to be fooling myself. I guess I'm just along for the ride until I'm not. In the meantime, I choose to be happy, creative, and loving.

I also agree about not trusting the banking system. The system is not working out for common people in much of the world due to inflation with soaring rent and food costs.

Dearest Ana, you made me feel somewhat better today with your video regarding money. Without much explanation let me just say that I am at my lowest point in my life with my finances. Everything I had is gone. My 13-year-old dog needs all his teeth pulled, I am 1 month behind in all my necessary bills and I owe $1,000 to a family member. I live on Social Security in the states. I get paid once a month. I pay every bill I can and eat from whatever is left. Many times that is peanut butter on bread. I’m 77 and not in good health to get a job. These are the golden years in America. You made me feel better by your resourcefulness. Your youth and your loving husband, I am sure, keep you going. I’m afraid I am running out of the “will” to live. God Bless You sweet Ana. ❤️

Thank you Ana, so upsetting the situation with bank and all. I'm glad you had the savings. Diversifying and plan for emergency is good. I had housemate who would keep an envolope of cash in kitchen freezer, said if anything happened good to have. And things did and they were also kind said I could use if ever need or something for the household. In addition, it taught to keep. Also I studied cosmetology and remember a teacher saying Sauve (maybe just a US generic brand) was actually good value for hair products and a faction of professional and others 's costs. Your hair / skin look great. :)) Finally, had a boss sold business and put $ I think into bitcoin and stocks. Every hour she would be asking and frantically checking the current prices. Was wild ride to see her go on and honestely kind of tiring. Or least for me it would be.

I can relate to your thoughts regarding the passion for creativity. I consider myself a minimalist in progress. I am very careful in how I manage my money learning to give priority to what really matter. Expending on my hobbies is very fulfilling but I take care of balancing with other areas of my expenses. My heart light up when I see books, art, fabrics and all about creativity. At this time of my journey I love myself with my passion for creativity. I don't regret one bit. Thank you for sharing . Dear Anna as someone who lived in Serbia in ‘90, I saw period of great inflation where money was today worth something and tomorrow was worth 0, I also saw that savings of people where practically worthless from one moment to the next I completely understand you& what you did I consider very smart move, because you where predicting and although sometimes things are very obvious but people don’t want to believe it as they prefer to live their illusion.

I enjoyed this vlog subject. I have often thought that minimalists, especially those who work at a decent paying job must save bundles of money compared to me. What occurred to me in listening to you is that it is okay (whew!) as a minimalist to have contradictions in our nature and that it is okay to spend money on stuff like crafting supplies. I mention crafting supplies in particular because beyond clothing and books, the crafting supplies are what I have a lot of. I've reduced in all of these areas but still have a lot and I'm trying to save much of the crafting supplies so that I can use them once I've completed most of my reorganizing and big decluttering tasks. I think I'm finally getting close to that point and I'm looking forward to doing more crafts starting this winter. Thanks for sharing your insightful thoughts once again dear Ana.💗

    Very thoughtful video.
I came to think of "vanlifers". I am all for people enjoying life if they have the means to do so. But it is a whole different thing being forced to be a nomad.
With this being your life, if you want to or not, the outlook and what you spend on, becomes very different. But then again, in some ways it is the same: It is important to also focus on what brings you joy, instead of only the worries. Your arts and crafts are tools for joy, and as such vital for you.

Regarding your savings you certainly made the right decision Ana. I've always lived below my means. There's a certain poverty to my spending which has held me in good stead all my life. However, on my crafts I don't stint on price: I buy books, pens, beautiful French inks and paper. That's where my creative heart lies, in literature and writing. Food is unimportant. Its fuel and I eat simply. I'll have a meal out about once a month. Clothing? Charity shops mostly.
I realise how lucky I am to be able to do this. So many live paycheck to paycheck.
Having a minimalist heart certainly is a good basis for having a secure life.

    Hi Ana,
I just started putting a little cash in a safe place at home. I have been feeling uneasy about the way things are going. So, most of my social security is in the bank (for now). I am preparing for shortages that will be coming soon. When or how long before you move? I hope this time is less stressful; it's a shame you can't stay where you are.

    Hi, Ana
Intead of having money at home, u can buy small parts of gold/silver (eg krugerrand coin, see value graphics).
The problem with cash is the inflation. Further more, think about crypto money (eth).
But the best invest is house with land (not possible for u as non european ?)
    Best 4 u both.

Thank you for sharing, Ana. Yes, all of us who grew up poor have money issues. After many years of being scared of poverty, I keep a minimum balance in my savings that is not touched, so I know it will be there for me. Luckily, I have not had to use it, but just knowing it is there comforts me. No plans to spend or overspend on non-essential things helps me, too. I no longer shop for entertainment, either. Keep safe and well.

I know that Russian banks made it almost impossible to access ones money, when the war started. To avoid financial drain.
And Russians' money in dollars in international banks, was, uh, quarantined, so they couldn't access the money and use it to support the regime.
