Ana I too made a big change in 2020. I bought a small mobile hone and moved out of a rented apartment. I have a minimal wardrobe about 30 pieces including shoes and jackets. Most items are thrifted. I enjoy the process of thrifting for most items I currently own. I am a sewer, crocheter, knitter, and recently a paper crafter mostly collage. Thank you so much for sharing your journey. What a lovely and relatable declutter. I love the idea that the more creative we are the less guilt inducing or scary letting go of things is. We just have an opportunity to create something new or trust ourselves to replace them mindfully with something even more meaningful.

Wow, this is such an inspiring message about creating more than you consume and putting your money toward the support of other people rather than corporations. I wish the whole world could hear this! The older I get, the less value I place on material possessions. They are not at all what life is about.
The jeans would make really great shorts! I love cutting off old pants into shorts, for some reason they seem to fit better than purpose made shorts for me.

If the jumper is already partially felted, you could felt it intentionally on a hot wash and use the fabric to make things!
My nemesis used to be home decor. Since moving to a smaller place 2 years ago, and donating so many items, I now am far more intentional about what I bring in. Only those pieces that truly give me joy and that I feel will continue to do so for many years make the grade. Thanks for discussing these deeper topics with us!

I used to be almost a hoarder, and the last two years I have been working hard to let things go. I have decluttered lots of stuff, and I'm still working on it. I got fed up with having a chaotic home, so my aim is to own only things that I use and things that I really value.

trying to declutter some black clothes.. black is a comfort color but i want to dress with more patterns and colors because that's what really make me happy!! also love the repurposing message. i've been attempting some mending recently and am learning a lot about my sewing machine and clothing construction. thank you for this video 💕

Ana, your channel is so warm and inviting, like having tea with a friend. I know what you mean about certain fabrics just being too stiff or scratchy- softness and comfort have become one of my main clothing priorities too. I absolutely love the sweater you are wearing ( I saw in other comments that you made it!). It perfectly illustrates how things you make for yourself are so special: the colors you chose are so gorgeous on you and enhance your beautiful skin tone, and also highlight your warm personality! Nothing off the shelf can create this special magic. My mom and grandmother used to make most of their clothes and I love how they could customize the items for themselves. That is a luxury only the rich have today with custom tailoring and couture items. But it was an ordinary creative outlet back then, everyday luxury. I’m going to check out your other channel now because you are inspiring me to create more!! ✨
side note but I love the little garlands of knitted/crocheted flowers and leaves that you have! I want to learn to make some too.
I really like seeing you happier and more life-balanced :) In terms of minimalism, I try to reduce my purchases and support local brands. For my wardrobe I keep two kinds of things: those that spark joy and those that spark necessity. I’ve created a To buy or not to buy folder, where I save screenshots of my desired items for 1-2 months. If I still want or need an item after this time I buy it and vice versa. And it’s been working so far for me ))
I have made many quilts with old clothes. My children still use them, and I've had to patch them. We look at the cloth and can remember where the cloth came from. They bring back memories. I have made cushion covers from old quilts and bed spreads too. I cut up very worn clothes for rags that eventually can be thrown away. I save the buttons and zippers. I have made bags and rugs with cloth from old clothes. So much can be repurposed and not wasted.

I would add more embroidery to the felted sweater and make a cushion cover with it.
Hi Ana! I totally agree with you. I don’t throw away my old garments anymore. I like to sew something new with them like zipperded pouches, totes, oven mittens, etc. Pure cotton is precious to me in a world of stretch!! Have a good day!
Love the sweater you are wearing, the neck area is cute, and the colour really suits you~ Ana , like you I mostly buy things I can use or stuff I can create with… but sadly all of these things do take space, and that’s my dilemma…rent is very expensive in Canada and I don’t want to put all my money on rental…. But my “ living room area” is now my studio🧡🌻
Love this presentation. I can related myself to your thoughts and ideas. I am trying to be more minimalist. I am learning to take time and space when buying stuff. I really enjoy my hobby Slow Stitching Meditation Art at this time of my journey. I really very passionate about it. Guess what? is where I expend my expending allowance. But you live this lifetime once and it is important to nurture our creativity. Love the ideas for repurposing your clothing. those are interesting ideas and viewpoints. I agree that money is energy and needs to move and flow. I read onetime that in order to receive wealth we need to make room for it by giving away some of what we already have. I've always had a strong need to sequester money (makes me feel secure) but I am also a firm believer in giving monthly to important non-profits and individuals. It's hard to strike a balance between saving for ourselves and giving to others. Your presentations are always thoughtful and encouraging.

I think we all fall back into our nesting phase when we start to feel safe/hopeful, as well as process the trauma of lifestyle and even material losses. Retail therapy, as they say. 💜

Couldn't agree more with your final conclusions! My relationship to money has been slowly transforming in that direction; sensing the flow of money as not always a bad thing, as something that I need to keep moving - but at the same time, being really conscious about who or what I choose to support with my resources. It has made 'spending' (or redirecting my money) feel much more joyful, less fraught. I think this video works very well with your discussion about scarcity vs abundance mindset!
So happy you have a sewing machine! I've had one since I was a teenager(I'm 71). My current machine looks a lot like yours. You can find lots of fabric at thrift shops made into other clothes but for pennies you can rip them apart and have your own stash. Please keep us posted on what you make or mend.

Ahora estoy juntando hojas secas, alargadas. Con ellas cubro la superficie de cajas de cartón. Estas cajas las utilizo para organizar objetos. También las obsequio a mi familia.
Son muy bonitas y el único material que hay que comprar es pegamento.
Tejo, coso, hago plantas, preparo comida para congelar, pinto las paredes de mi casa.
Cuando no puedo hacer algo con mis propias manos, compro a artesanos locales.

I loved this! I wish I had more creative talents. I learned to sew as a child but didn’t like it. And I’m afraid I’m lazy; there is always a good book to be read and a sunset to admire, or a nap to be taken! As always I am impressed by your thoughts and ideas. An idea from when I was a young hippy: you can make a nice long skirt by opening all the inside leg seams on jeans, and filling in the gaps front and back with fabric in a nice print. I love your approach to decluttering by repurposing things. Also, supporting others in their creative endeavors or meaningful projects is a great way to share what we have. In the end, we really don't need much, passing the surplus on makes everybody richer, I think, the giver and the receiver.

Re-purposing for craft is a really good idea.
I am gradually becoming less of a clutter collector and since moving to a smaller home I have had to get rid of quite a bit of stuff. My rule when I came here was not to put anything in the attic space. I have stuck to that and it has made me more mindful of what I want around me.

I really like how you was talking about each item and showing it, it slows down the flow of hurry thoughts and makes you see each item. I really need to re-arrange my items here. I did not take much with me, but still already accumulated some new clothes. And not sure I need those!

I can't stand stretchy denim either. I loved that red hat on you. I consign my clothing and get a credit to buy things at the consignment store for them.

The first sweater, the brown wool turtleneck is also a sweater I could not wear either. Too itchy, especially up and around the neck. When I was young, teens, 20's and 30's I could wear turtleneck but no more. I am over 50 and cannot tolerate sweaters like that anymore.
Make long fingerless gloves and a headband from the collar..
I would love to see some of your crafting you showing us how to make things that would be so neat maybe how to make your bags

How about felting that sweater even more and recutting it into a vest? It could be dyed to make it more wearable over what you already own? You could add pockets from the sleeve material. Happy repurposing! Xx

Felting is such a great idea! I've made pulse warmers, leg warmers and felted seat pads from old wool sweaters. I'm living in northern Sweden so those things are frequently used.

Hi Ana, thank you for your video. I love the idea of repurposing items I no longer like or need. Like turning jeans into bags, cushion covers or a quilt. The poloneck jumper you no longer like, could be felted and turned into a cushion, keeping your embroidery on. With leftover jersey parts you can cut out felted petals to make flowers. I really like the beanie on you but unraveled you could make fingerless gloves or another collar or belt. You could unravel the merino yarn scarf and dye it with beetroot juice to make an interesting colour yarn. I like the style of the shirt, itwould look beautiful in white cheesecloth fabric, so maybe trace the pattern before cutting up to make something else. I think the red hat is cute on you. Also I see what you mean about the cut of the plaid shirt, could you cut the wide under arms fabric and take it in ( by sewing) on both sides to represent a more traditional button down shirt?

For the white knitted scarf- instead of unraveling what if you dyed it? that could be a fun project since it's well made and you like the style, just not the color.

i feel bad taking my stuff to charity shops, but for years thinking, it's a burden to them, made me keep the unwanted hoard, now, i take it, then donate money to cover the cost of putting it in the bin, which i mentally can't do, i pay them to do it for me...
