- Modi In Ukraine: Russia's View
Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the first ever visit by an Indian head of government to Ukraine a day before its Independence Day. He met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenzkyy along with a top level delegation that included National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Minister Dr S. Jaishankar and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. On 'The Gist', Dr Julia Melnikova, Programme Manager at the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) speaks to StratNews Global Associate Editor Amitabh P. Revi on the view from Moscow. "Though not many people anticipated a joint statement," Dr Melnikova says, "in a broader context, we do not see any use in it. That's because Prime Minister Modi has been very outspoken in the fact that India's stance is in the middle". After all, she adds, "India pursues this policy of multi alignment, as you call it right now".
Russia's Perspective
"In Russia it is perceived as a message, as a confirmation of India's multi alignment," the RIAC expert analyst points out. "And also, this policy of balancing between the West and the East, Global South and Global North. Between the West and the East between Asian and Western powers". Basically Dr Melnikova says, "this is exactly how Prime Minister Modi shows that. He has just visited Russia and now he's visiting Ukraine. And this is a very strong message, mostly targeted actually at the Global South rather than at Russia or Ukraine". Also Dr Melnikova adds, "from the Russian perspective, nothing new is now added to the bucket. No new perspective. Moscow doesn't see any revelation in what Prime Minister Modi said. However, this is a very elegant way to stress your national interest," she says on Modi In Ukraine: Russia's View.
Dr Julia Melnikova Also Discusses:
*Bilateral relationships.
*India-Russia, India-Ukraine ties.Russia-Pakistan, Russia-China relations.
*PM Modi's annual summit with President Putin in Moscow.
*PM Modi's "this is not the era for war' and other statements on the conflict.
*India's Russian oil imports in July that were more than China's.
*China's aggression along India's borders.
*The Russia-China strategic partnership and any potential impact on India.
*Several peace plans and India's 'willingness to contribute in all possible ways to facilitate an early return of peace'.
*India's defence relationship with Russia and diversification with the West.
*And how Moscow views India's relations with the U.S., the West and in the Quad.

A very comprehensive discussion on the Indo Russian perspectives of the visit by PM Modi to Ukraine. Thank you for the excellent interview which clears the air and the also brings out the Russian view of the visit and India's role in diffusing the war. It has definitely improved the relations of the two Eastern powers and also clarified the Chinese influence on this critical balance. Very absorbing and very pertinent!
Excellent interview and great insight. Very informative. Dhanyavad Amitabh and Stratnews Team.. Jai Hind 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
👍🏾 @harshalgore
Great discussion
Excellent interview
Amitabh, we welcome more such interviews from (proffessional) Moscow.
You are one of the few people who pronounce Ukraine correctly. That is exactly the Ukrainian people call their country. Thank you.
Was eagerly waiting for a Russian perspective on this. I must say, it was a bit harsher than I expected. Anyway much more understanding than the west's reaction after the Moscow visit of PM Modi
not really harsh @jaydeepgadhavi5465 😊
Julia is brilliant.
First step is to bring the leaders to on a table to talk each other. Let them put forth their points of view openly and start the negotiations.
It is time both the leaders readers respect each other and stop using words that hurt each other.
The Ukraine President should be advised to use words carefully as he is the head of the state.
We Indians wish both the countries don't loose lives of their soldiers with out giving a space for talks.
Indians have a great soft corner for Russia as it has always helped India in difficult times .
But India wants to see end of this senseless war which is being fought on the directions of western powers who wants to see destruction of Ukraine and Russia .
Very interesting... Thanks

The straight forwardness and ruthless clear headedness of a Russian is just ❤❤❤.... We need to learn from them and stop this non violence nonsense which the prime minister keeps talking about
Modiji is at his best ! especially balancing the situation for the benefit of all! Pappu, on the other hand, would have been well out of depth and drowned, jai hind.
I respect Russia majorly due to their stance. As West says, "If you are not with us, then you are against us". Russians although a pole in the fight, still reapects when India take neutral stand and deny any weapon sale during the war 🙏🇮🇳
Well , I would say the interview is very elegant 😅. Very mature conversation unlike clownsky (zelensky).
Instead of looking for solution of the conflct India may prefer to be the catalyst only.
Good we need to know what they think about us not just russia but entire global community,,, It's important
Russia is a mature power
Super power
people of BHARAT stand with RUSSIA. west can cry all they want.
We stand in a more balanced way. Russia is too close to China, and is growing increasingly close to Pakistan. We need to also reach out to Ukraine so that Russia's Pakistan overtures can be neutralised.
@@anshuecon Russia and china are long term geopolitical enemies..Both Russia and Bharat knows it very well..pakistan is a temporary vassal state of US..terroristan will cease to exist as soon as Anglo saxon US empire falls or is forced by Bharat to stop protecting pak in next 2 decades.
@@anshuecon ukraine is a sacrificial pawn of US.. bharat is only dealing will ukraine to keep our balancing act between west and Russia. we need to keep this balancing act till we reach $15 trillion economy. once we reach this level..then stoping bharat will become impossible for the US and its puppet west or china.
We stand on our national interest.
@@aanakrukavi yes..bharat's national interest is on destroying anglo saxon empire - US and commie CHina...RUSSIA is long term enemy of both US and china
India should support Russia at all costs
Russian friendship is a chinese trap for Bharat
India Russia friendship will last
Nope. That was Soviet union india. Russia ukrane were part of Soviet union @@sharmana100
USA's friendship is the real backstabbing, chinese trap.
