You are a life saver! Same story, put a pen thru dryer, big mess. I tried isopropyl alcohol, vinegar, dawn and hot water, nothing worked. Was set to go to store to buy mint oil and more magic erasers when I decided to try the nail polish remover. Works like a charm. Gonna grab more tomorrow after work and get the rest of it done when I have more time. Thanks for your video!
Thank you so much! This morning, I also had ink stains inside my dryer from doing laundry last night. I didn’t realize I had left an ink pen in my clothing. I used your suggestion of the Mr. Clean pad and nail polish remover and it came right off. 🥰
I washed a tote bag and 2:28 forgot that I left an ink pen in it. It was all over the dryer. It ruined a pair of jeans too. I used Mr. Clean Magic Erase and 409. I sprayed the spots of ink with 409 and wiped it down with the Magic Erase. It got a good 95% of the stains out. The ones that were toughest were on the back wall where the white is, on the dryer. After I was done, I wet 2 old bath towels and put them in the dryer to clean out any residue. Worked very well, and fumes weren't too strong. Oh, and I threw in a couple dryer sheets with the towels to get any smell out. Hope this helps someone. Next time, I'll check the pockets.
So glad i found this video. I washed a load of clothes and didn’t know there was a pen in the load when I put it in the dryer- financially I’m unable for spend unnecessary money so I started panicking thinking that I would have to replace the dryer that came with the unit I’m in. I went and got acetone and the magic erase and this works SO FAST I was so shocked and amazed. THANK YOU SO SO MUCH!! Truly❤️🙏🏽
Thank you, this happened to me today and a pen exploded in a pocket that I had left in a pair of jeans and ruined a couple of shirts. I used a paper towel, dipped it in some bleach wiped it down and most of it came off, but I will use the Mr. clean eraser after it has aired out and completely dried, thank you for the tip
Thank you for sharing! I just took my clothes out the dryer and it was ink all over my clothes and in my dryer! Nail Polish and Alcohol worked for me. Thank you again!
I used Nail Polish and washed it again with soap and water. Worked great. Goo gone took only the top layer on it. It eventually came off but the nail polish was much faster. Because nail polish is hazardous to heat, you MUST WASH IT AGAIN WITH SOAP and WATER.....then dry it with a paper towel. Looks great. : )
Your video reminded me of a can of "goof off" i had in the garage. Really strong horrible fumes, but it picked up the slack where soap and vinegar and magic erasers weren't cutting it.
7/23 I had ink leak from a ball point pen, into the dryer drum. I tried alcohol with a sponge and magic eraser and got nowhere. Then I heated the dryer for 20+ minutes (which may not be needed) and used a scrub brush and dawn dish soap and with some effort it all came out. Fear not, you can get it out!
The acetone did work with the Mr clean. But the fumes were too much . The wife had some stuff called the pink stuff a slightly abrasive cleaning compound almost like gojo and I had a brush kit for my impact that she said was a waste of money looks like it wasn’t! With the combination of those two things and some hot soapy water to wipe up the compound afterwards her brand new dryer is back to brand new again. You should add this to your next video it could help some mom or wife somewhere when the kids leave a pen in their pocket. Thanks for the helpful video it did come in handy and sparked some ideas of my own
Equal parts bleach and water, use old towel, soak towel, wring out towel. Place damp towel in dryer on hot and dry for 20-30 minutes. Works like a charm. Repeat if necessary. Minimal elbow grease!
@@christopherkaczmarek553 I dunno, I'll have to ask the Missus. She's the laundry expert, I just fix 'em!... She says the ink usually doesn't come off the clothes. But when a pen gets tangled up in the washer and makes it into the dryer that's when you have a problem. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for your video really made me feel better about my new dryer that my wife left a ink pen in her pocket. This product worked great for me. I wore a mask while applying this product, but it took it right off. Non-acetone nail polish remover from target. Got the job done in minutes.
I had the same mess with ink ! While the dryer was hot. I used rubbing alcohol! Little elbow grease, You have to hold your nose, but it works! I wiped clean with water afterwards,
Luckily I had a big bottle if acetone from when I was doing my own nails. My dryer had looked just like yours did. I had a crappy cloth mask on & took several breaks...plus had a fan blowing into the dryer. I tried everything (using a magic eraser) from goo gone, comet cleanser, wd-40, brake fluid, vinegar, bleach.. the only thing that took the ink completely off was acetone... BUT it also started taking off the paint! SO BE CAREFUL!
I would add a very important step, run your dryer on high after clothes are out. Let it cool and with a plastic scrapper, scrape off the large blots of ink. They have plastics in them so with lift right off. If not you will smudge the ink all over your dryer and make it harder to clean with Acetone.
For general clean up the best I have found is Mighty Boss from tractor supply. I don't know how it does on ink. I would think a penetrating/lubricant spray like PB Blaster or WD40 would work good.
The nail polish remover is best out of all because the eraser has bad chemicals and not sure what the brilo pad has. There's a natural brand. I'm not sure if just any store sells but a brand called "Gabriel" nail polish has acetate but other things in it that aren't harmful. Thank you for this video.
I'm not a laundry expert but the Missus is and she says that the problem happens when an ink pen gets loose in the wash and makes it into the dryer. It won't get on the dryer after it's been through the wash and the ink is dry on the clothes. Thanks for watching!
Ink leaked all over. Wore a gas mask, fans to blow it outside. Non flammable acetone is all I had after I used a whole bottle of my wife’s nail polish remover. You have to do it fast as it evaporates instantaneously. Lots and lots of elbow grease and rags! It’s not easy as you described
@@HarperandKnowles Sorry, I did not mean you described it was easy. I should have worded that the job is as you described, it does take “lots of elbow grease.”
Hey, it’s all good. No offense was taken. I should have realized a comma was missing. I’m glad you didn’t give up and scrap your dryer! Carry on, my friend!
It might be the combination of detergent and moisture left in the clothes after washing. It sure doesn't wipe off on your finger. I'll try a heat gun on it next time I get one with ink in it. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@HarperandKnowles I might experiment with heat on a drum ink from one of my scrapped dryers. If I do, I will apply ink and make sure it is dry before trying to remove it.

I tried both of these, and it didn't work at all. I think it has a lot to do with the material and paint of the dryer because in the plastic sections, hairspray took the ink off immediately. Haven't been able to get anything to work so far, going to try the Dawn soap and scrub brush.

Any type of brake fluid?
I would think so, it’s all about the same. Be careful though, that stuff is known to damage paint jobs.
