    This is amazing, thank you so much for creating and sharing this beautiful pattern, AND for making this incredibly helpful video! My mom is a huge Outlander fan and I was hoping to knit this for her birthday. Not sure if I have quite enough knitting experience yet, but knowing this video exists definitely makes me feel like I can try! Thanks so much!

      Yes! it can get in a tangle, I used a container after that to keep the yarn colors separate. It helps a lot!

      @@handylittleme I gave up and snipped the little knotted section out, now I'm using bobbins on a lap table so I can turn the table, not the garment. Huge help! Means more tails to weave in but better than the mess I was dealing with, I'd knit two rows and spend an hour untangling. I'm actually able to get work done now!

      That's a great idea, I used a basket with holes in it to separate the yarn and it helped a lot. It does get in a tangle if you don't use something to keep them apart.

    Hi! I love this pattern and am rather new to knitting but as I work this pattern up with both yarn A and B, the colors don't connect on the sides. It's like I'm knitting three different pieces. What am I doing wrong?

    • @handylittleme
      @handylittleme  2 роки тому

      Hello Sarah, it sounds like you are not connecting the yarns in the right way as you knit each color. You can see this in the video. This is an intarsia technique to make sure the yarn colors stay connected as you work. I hope that helps! Louise

    Ive been loving the process and the pattern so far. But I’m so confused as to how to get my yarn c colour to the left side once I’ve cast off on the right side. Am I cutting the yarn and reattaching on the other side? If so, how do I reattach the yarn to a stitch without it being visible?

    • @handylittleme
      @handylittleme  Рік тому

      Hello, yes you will have to re-join the yarn to the other side when you are ready. You can start to knit and use the working end of the yarn right away or you can thread the working end of the yarn through a yarn needle and through the first stitch then go from there. I hope that makes sense. :)

    Hi Louise,
    I really enjoyed your video! I had purchased the pattern but did not quite understand the technical terms. Just a quick question, why at 185 stitches does the shawl get divided into half? Is this because it gets too long for the circle needle to hold? And how many rows still need to be knitter after this point?
    Many thanks!

    • @handylittleme
      @handylittleme  3 роки тому

      Hello, the shawl is divided in half so that you can continue working on the other side and the direction of the knitted rows will be the same. This is to make sure the shawl looks the same as the shawl Clare wears in the Outlander series. If you study the photo of Clare wearing the shawl you will see the direction of the knitted rows on the front pointed panels and that is why the construction is like it is. Both sides have to look the same and in order to achieve that it has to be split. In the pattern instructions, you will see how to work the right section and finish it off. It tells you how many stitches you will need to have left in order to decrease. I hope that helps! if you have further questions, please send me an email. Thanks, Louise

  • @thomas351
    @thomas351 3 роки тому

    thanks for this post ...I do have a question though ...you appear to do something I have never seen before could you explain please?
    after putting the three stitches on the needle you appear to be tying a knot with the yarn tail and the working yarn ...I am correct or seeing things ? and if correct is this just a personal habit or does it serve a purpose? never too Old to learn a new trick ;-)

    • @handylittleme
      @handylittleme  3 роки тому

      Hello Thomas, that is a habit of mine, for fear that the tail end will be loose there, so I place a knot. When I finish the work, I undo that and weave in the end. I hope that clears things up! Louise :)

    Hello I am currently making this and the yarns are a mess! I’ve put them in bags, boxes and everything else in the house. Have you got any other tips on how to not tangle everything, because I’ve probably spent more time untangling than knitting 😅😅😅🥲

    • @handylittleme
      @handylittleme  3 роки тому

      Hello, maybe you can try to turn your work when you knit in the opposite way. I find that helps to keep the yarns a bit more tangle-free. If you turn in a certain way they will twist, but if you turn the other way, they shouldn't. Plus placing each yarn ball into a ziplock bag with a hole in can help too. Let me know how it goes! :)

    Hello, I must be doing something wrong, so I am hoping that you can help me. I have started my knitting twice now, and both times when it comes time to add in Yarn B, the count is off. I have been moving the marker as indicated in part 1 of the instructions, but I must be doing something incorrectly. If I knit 6 with yarn A, it leaves two stitches before the marker. Can you perhaps guess from my limited description what I am doing incorrectly?

    • @handylittleme
      @handylittleme  3 роки тому

      Hello Michelle, if the count is off you must be adding more stitches than you should somewhere in the yarn over increases? Before you add in the first colour you should have 15 sts - then you add in yarn B. You can see in the video how to join in the colours and how many sts are knit. I would perhaps start again and make sure that you have the 15 sts before joining in yarn B. I hope that helps! Louise

    • @michelleparker5630

      @@handylittleme Hello, thank you for the quick reply, but I do not have too many stitches, exactly fifteen both times. I tried counting in your video, at that juncture, how many stitches you have on either side of the stitch marker, and that is where I am off? The 'lattice' pattern is both even and looks similar to yours as you stretch it to display in the video, but the marker is in the wrong spot. I can just replace it, but if I am doing something incorrectly, it is likely to remain a problem. So issue is 15 stitches both attempts but the location of the marker being off. I should add this is the first time I have ever used a stitch marker, or YO technique, but have watched multiple videos and believe I am doing the YO correct.

    • @handylittleme
      @handylittleme  3 роки тому

      @@michelleparker5630 Hello Michelle, so when you have 15 sts, you will have 6 in green and in the middle in Yarn B you will have 5 sts. I think you need to put the marker where it says to/shows you where to place it in the pattern/video - and make sure it stays in the same place. You can always place a locked stitch marker on the right side of the work in the knitted fabric somewhere, so that you know that is the side where the increases take place, just in case you increase on the wrong side somehow by mistake. I do this so that I don't have to think too much about which side I am on.

    • @michelleparker5630
      @michelleparker5630 3 роки тому

      @@handylittleme Hello, thank you for your response. It must be that the marker is moving, as I said I am new to using them. As I did place it as in the video, even slowed the video down so that I could count stitches. Ah well, I will continue on, it is all a learning experience and that is part of the fun.
