This sounds like a category you should explore Rick. Great Songs that Never Went Anywhere. Go out there, find them and share them with us. I’m sure we’d all love to hear them.

I could totally picture this song playing during a dramatic setup scene in a top level, academy award wining film.

I remember going out to clubs in Nashville and listening to bands whose members were all studio musicians or instructors at local music colleges. The music was all vastly superior to most of the stuff being played on radio and MTV. Unfortunately, the stars never aligned for most of them.

Wow Rick, I’ve just watched this for the first time. That song gave me goose bumps. The girls voices are amazing. It’s a proper, well constructed song. Unlike the rubbish we have thrown at us these days. Superb!

"People don't really want to hear my songs." - False, I want to hear them all. This song is a masterpiece.

Release this song immediately yourself. It’s great.

Unpopular opinion: the modern allure of being a “professional musician” has become so prolific that we forget that the point of songwriting for centuries was to make music for family and friends. Songs don’t have to top charts and make millions in order to be valuable.

Today's music just can't hold my attention. However, those two gals singing about the riverside gave me goosebumps and I caught myself while the music was playing. These gals could be the start of bringing real talent back to music! 😀

  • Richard Marsh

That song will chart one day. It's fantastic! It doesn't need anything else. It needs to stay simple and not be over produced.

It’s a shame that music that touch’s many listeners ears and hearts never makes it out of the gate

Can we just take a minute to appreciate what Rick is doing with these videos? And how he just seems like a normal guy with an amazing talent? Seems like he'd be real easy to get along with and have some amazing stories!

I worked for years writing and recording songs. 1 ended up on a compilation album. My late brother, like you, was a fantastic musician and producer. He digitized over 1200 songs he wrote before he died. Except for about 25 people who have copies of some of the songs, the majority will never be heard. Imagine what is probably out there in America. The amazing music that will never get the recognition it deserve. It’s heartbreaking.

I didn’t release my first album until early 2021 and I’m 67. It took me 13 long months to produce the 10 tracks and I also mixed and mastered the whole thing. To this day I can listen to the album and sincerely wouldn’t change a thing on it. It is my masterpiece. Will anyone other than my family, friends and my modest fan base ever hear it? No. But you know what? I produced a damned good album. I achieved something most people never will, and I’m happy with that.

What amazing singers those two are. That really is a great song the way it is

  • Jacob Rheaume

It's so devastating that the most beautiful song ever written is, in all likelihood, one we've never heard and never will hear.

That Muddy Magnolia's song is awesome. I would buy an entire album from them just based on hearing that version of that song.

Rick is becoming UA-cam’s A&R agent - for the benefit of musicians and listeners. Nice one 👍🏼

  • Peter Shoobridge

Beautiful song and wonderful singing. The reason the ladies couldn’t get a version they liked better is because the “Appalachian minimalist” arrangement of the demo is exactly how it should sound.

  • Bums Harvest

I believe anything learned is not wasted. Rick, producing and writing all those songs only added to your treasure trove of knowledge. This is one of the reasons why you have a zillion subs.
