One day, people will enjoy demos and work that was done to show if it’s for them or not. If it’s not for you, ignore is your friend. It’s 2024. We know gear can cost. That well has dried up. We know you’ve got toys that blow. Go forth and flow. Drink the creatorade, not the haterade. Life is short. Thank you for taking the time to show what this can do. Stay safe sir.
Agree as well. Really hoping to see this trend continue with more hands on control for live acts. Maybe a whole standard for effects that aren’t “pedal format”. I love rack units, but they need hands on controls like pedals.
Love the many buttons. Effects were either pedals or rack mounted modules years ago. Although it has changed over the years, I feel manufacturers still keep treating effects as a small box with only a few buttons. This Nightverb has great hands on control, I love it! It's almost like a crossover between a synth and an effect unit.
the other thing that makes hardware awesome is you can play with it with your eyes closed if you get good at it, where you cant click a mouse and do stuff with your eyes closed in a VST, theres something magical about doing sound design with your eyes closed, it makes you listen more and feel it more
Perhaps it's just the concept of being able to completely zone out of what your doing, and zone into the music itself. With physical instruments of any kind I feel I can truly get attached. When deeply focused and in the zone with them, they can it feel like an extension of yourself. Guitar or piano for example. Computers (or keyboard and mouse rather) will always feel like a "tool" to me, though they are still insanely powerful and flexible and I use them everyday for a variety of hobbies. But you can't really turn your brain off/close your eyes and just "play from the soul" on them, for lack of better words. lol
@@eliash.6142 no you cant because midi controllers arent ergonomically designed in their layout, look at the nightverb the spacing and layout of the knobs is nothing like a midi controller, also midi controllers mostly only have 127 steps of resolution and you have to spend the time setting it up where as hardware has already been set up and problem solved. Midi controllers are usually setup like a grid, which is fine if youve got ONE synth or effect you want to play with, but if you want multiple effects or synths it makes it harder to memorize what each knob and function does with your eyes closed
In regards to tuning the reverb, Autechre use this trick fairly often. In the right hands, it can be used to add some interesting dynamics/depth to tracks.
How would you compare it to Eventide Space or Black Hole? Would it be fair to say that this is a livelier, less dark of a character to reverb? What sold the Eventide for me was not only the weirdness of its algorithmic reverbs, but more its dark, alien, almost harrowing nature, particularly when it comes to Black Hole, Ekospace God and Pulsar presets. The ability to do deep, rhythmic drone tracks with it has eclipsed Strymon Big Sky and Amplitube X-Space for me, even though the price tag was frankly way too scary for me. How well does this do drones in comparison?
it’s also dedicated chips and circuitry not just tactile. as powerful as pooters are these days, dedicated specific design and controls in a single box is awesome
hi ricky, what is the source of the high-pitched hi-frequency background noise throughout the video? very prominent in the "understanding the controls" section, but not audible in the "final thoughts" section, or on any of your other videos
Sounds like some extra noise when dirty mode is engaged? I hope it’s not like the annoying high pitched sound my zen delay makes when set to high pass mode.
wanted to mention this too. dunno whether it's the Nightverb (it seems to be reacting to the knobs), but the reverb itself is mediocre sounding too. a shame, really, for it has a great control scheme, and there's def not enough (playable) reverbs like this, esp in stereo
Would love to see a line diagram of the gear setup at 11:18 Acid House Madness. Midi splitter, effects outs, mixer in/outs? What role does each piece play or control etc? These setups look so simple in the videos, but can be quite difficult to reverse engineer without a little help. thanks for the great video Ricky!
So Erica Synths, is this just a hardware standalone of 112dB Redline II VST? A VST that is 14 years old and goes on sale on the holidays for up to 50% off?
your running a interesting patch there.. all tracks dedicated to same sample? Poly Digitakt kinda approach.. Also, your DTII has a grey FUNC button? Easter eggs a plenty. Nightverb is gonna be sick. Cant wait to play with one myself
AUUUUUUUUUUGH. i definitely am looking for a zen delay, but i havent made a final decision on a verb pedal. its this, the hologram, or the big sky idk idk idk
I have the Perkons and the Syntrx MKII, and I would love to have 2 of these minimum. the reverb on the Syntrx is good, but nothing like this. and of course , putting this with the Perkons on just one channel would be insane or even the entire thing. Plus a ton of other synths/drum machines. even vocals.
I have both nightverb and nightsky. And one thing about Nightverb disappointed me: the freeze mode. If you freeze the buffer you can’t play new notes wet, only dry, if crank full wet no notes at all! The nighsky plays new notes reverberated in freeze mode…😢
Best demo of this Reverb I've seen, the other demos have been literally terrible! I don't really need another 'verb' at the moment, but it looks fun for those in the market. Thx Mr Tinez
Excellent demo, I love those hands on effect boxes with many knobs for playing live. I use a lot the unknown MOOER OCEAN MACHINE to create massive reverb ambient pads with any sound. ERICA SYNTH has been in my radar these few years and love their sequencers and drum modules…. And now the reverb.
It'll sound like a good analog monosynth with really amazing creative reverb. Since you can play the verb chromatically you could kinda add another voice!
Oh shiiiiiit… RICKY! That never happens to you! Guess you’re human after all😂❤ But you know what man? It’s all good, why we notice it is: Because all your other videos knock it out of the park sound wise. Natural sounding and clean. Literally the only time I’ve ever experienced a video by you that had ANYTHING that shouldn’t be there. That’s a STELLAR track record.
It's very interesting, but for me, it's less of a sound design tool and more a live/dj swiz army knife. And am I crazy or does it sound like Alesis Nanoverb on sterioids?
There are a ton of beautiful ‘artists of tech’ out there, Erica Synths are one of these sound gods. The last few years they’ve created what I consider some of the best synths and deck plugins(?) ever made.
Interesting line at the beginning about Erica Synths reaching out and asking if you wanted to review it, but also offered money on top? I was always under the assumption that manufacturers sent items for review at no or little cost and you either had to send it back or got to keep it. That line seems to imply that they paid for the review in addition. Should this video have been marked as sponsored then? This line of thought stemming from Midlife Synthesists recent video on gear youtube as well. Not that I'm dismissing comments in the video (this based on the trust I have in Ricky's opinions - but that also adds a razor's edge balance of "how much weight does the person's reputation carry"). Interesting times.
Personally, I want to know what said gear sounds like. If Ricky, Tom, Dick or Harry turn the knob and cash was tossed in, that’s not affecting my decision if said gear is for me or not. Better to find out here than get it home and not vibe with what I hear. Just my two pennies.
@@krazywabbit Agreed. You can complete dislike (or have no interest in) the "game" as it were (how they make a living / get gear / keep gear / etc) - If you ignore all that, appreciate their opinion + demos over the stuff the manufacturer releases; then you've gotten value in my opinion.

Yeah, I watch gear videos for inspiration with my existing gear more than deciding if I want to buy something.
But if I don’t complain about the price in the comments, how will anyone know it’s expensive?????? /s
@@cp99music
Insert "500$ for a reverb!" comment.

Tell me why I was expecting this to be at least 1000
I like that it doesn't have foot-switches on the panel. Something goofy about playing foot-switches with fingers, as a table-top unit.
Totally agree, hand-playing effects has been established for a long time and it's good to see the hardware catching up to that
@@weselle1391I mean, it’s just going back to rackmount devices
It’s not a pedal, why would it have foot switches? Zen Delay doesn’t have either.

Whoa, that sounds awesome, and that screen is impressive too!
This is the coolest reverb machine I've ever seen!
Erica Synths seems to make some solid gear!
Thanks, man!
Playing the room! That is genius.
the controls and possibilities making me think very much of the current ableton stock reverb... giving me ideas for the daw 🫡🤔 Great vid!
Totally fun to play!! Used it last week at a gig making noise and drones 🌠

If you want more knobs the eurorack seems to be a popular alternative but the extra wires , small knobs and general expense is a bit of a turnoff
ES makes fantastic gear for sure, love them a lot
Try ones the Perkons 😉
I would’ve liked a motion record function on this one and the zen delay.

The "Night Sky" Pedal by Strymon is very, very similar but mooore cheap. Great sound and unique creative ways to play both
I think that playing the freeze could have some really cool applications.
