Thank you for this tutorial. I learned a lot.
The method for drawing the outline first and then the details by using different stroke widths are great.
But the details you are demonstrating, like the path effects, the creation of the skin tones and the shadow effects are really making the difference on the art work.

Brilliant, thank you so much! Can gradients be used for shadows and high lights?

You are very welcome my friend.
In answer to your question, sort of but there are some nuances to it. There are a few methods. Mesh gradient is likely your best course of action.
If you want more control over shadows and highlights, you can use the mesh gradient because this acts like a grid where you can change the position, colour and opacity of each intersecting point. I will be doing a video on Mesh gradients very soon. It looks way more difficult to use than it actually is.
For everything else, as standard with version 1.3, you can direct vertical/horizontal shadows using the blur and node tool. Then for any overlap, you can use a clipping mask to stop it bleeding out of your design.
Hope this helps. If there is anything else you wish to talk through. Feel free to ask #StayCreative

Sorry to her that. I have tried others, but they just arent't what I'm looking for. Your explanations in these two videos are amazing. Not too fast, just right to where I can comprehend what you are explianing, and why. You leave no guessing as to why you are doing the things you do. I am just a little fmiliar with Inkscape 1.3 and I want to learn more. My goal is to create svg files for a cutting program (CRICUT Design space) so I can design my own cut files. I will continue to follow you and stay subscribed to your channel. Any suggestions for me?@@ButtonPressGraphics

Thank you so much. That means a lot. I try to go a pace that is easy to follow along with. If I could give you any advice, it would be to experiment. I know! That seems like a cliché lol but genuinely, experimenting with different techniques is the best way to learn.@@michaeltaylor5249
