      Thank you so much and I have to say that I 'have' tried a while ago and it didn't fair too well lol. It is possible to easily make a cartoon or abstract style with grids but for the realism or more detailed styles, it is simply easier to use the standard Pen tool for the shapes needed. However, with that said, it is very easy to get specific curves with the grids. All you have to do is use the pen tool in conjunction with Snapping enabled & then use the grids intersecting points as a reference. It is definitely worth experimenting with it. If you do, please let me know how you manage, I would love to know. As ever, thanks again for the kind words and #StayCreative my friend

      Hello Tracy (& Merry Christmas (If you celebrate it)). Yes! I am indeed on Ver. 1.4 The reason that my icons look different is because of my settings. If you would like to experiment with your own layout, you can. Simply go to your Edit menu & select Preferences. When the menu opens, got to the Theming sub-section under the Interface heading. From there, you can change a multitude of different options. From the colour & size of your nodes/handles to the aforementioned icon themes. My personal settings are set to the Minwaita GTK Theme and for the icons I have it set to Adwaita. I hope this helps & remember to #StayCreative my friend 😁

      @@tracyneal2721 That reply made me LOL so thank you for that. The pen tool is indeed a worthy adversary but it is one that you MUST DEFEAT as it stands inbetween you and Inkscape MASTERYYYYYYY 🤣 All jokes aside, the Pen Tool is difficult to get to grips with at first so I can relate. However, using it in conjunction with the node tool will help you massively but I am sure that you will master it with enough practice. Happy New Year too. I hope that 2025 will bring you all the creativity that you could possibly hope for 😁

      @@ButtonPressGraphics - HA! You are very welcome. That is one of my goals: to bring smiles and for real LOLs not those pesky fake LOLs. I have played with the pen tool off and on for years. But have never taken it seriously b/c it's difficult and I didn't want to. Now I have a new laser crafting machine and if I want to do name cut outs in various materials then I am going to need to master it. Those skinny script fonts just break on me so I need to use the pen tool to make them BIGGER! So have decided to conquer my laziness & fear of this silly pen tool & will definitely master it! I see now that you have a video "node & pen tool: marriage made in heaven" that Im gonna have to watch too. BTW I think your speech rate in this video is quite fine (along with your accent). Of course I am old and slow now days with hearing issues but just wanted to say so. I also have followed you on your FB page and tried to check our your website, but it appears to be down.. @@tracyneal2721 Thank you so much for your kind words Tracy (& of course the follow too). In relation to my website, yes! Unfortunately, you are correct. It is down due to a dispute with my old provider. Then, it was the run up to Christmas so I have not had the money to fix it yet because #FamilyFirst. As for my speech rate, thank you. I naturally talk very fast but I understand that people outside of the UK can have trouble keeping up so I have always made a point of slowing down my speech & trying to articulate correctly. I also use a slower pace so it is easier for people to follow along. I really appreciate you telling me that it is helpful because it reassures me that I have made the right call. Lastly, yes! The Pen tool is a must for engraving. Fonts are fantastic but when using the Offsets to increase the size, they tend to glitch out because of the unique way Inkscape converts text into a path. I have no doubt whatsoever that you will be able to master the Pen Tool and of course, my "Marridge made in Heaven" video will help too because that will teach you how to flip from each tool to get the ideal outcome. To this day, my left hand is always hovering over the CTRL, SHIFT, ALT, B (Pen Tool) & N (Node Tool) keys because they are the shortcuts I use the most. Trust me, when it finally 'clicks' in your mind, it will become very intuitive & natural to use both tools quickly without thinking too much about it. #YouWillDoGreat #IKnowIt

    Nice video! if we had many smiley faces and they all had the elementes distributed in the same layers you had and you say: I want to have each face on a separated layer. How do you that? and how do you get all elements out of the layer in one step? thanks

    • @ButtonPressGraphics
      @ButtonPressGraphics 27 днів тому

      Great question, David. There are a few ways to do this. One would be to draw a bounding box around the entire design (You would then see the Layers menu reflect this by all the elements being selected at the same time), then you could right click and select copy. Then select to add a new layer (Top-left of the menu) & paste the objects into it. Alternatively, you could also do it this way (My preferred way). Start by creating a new layer. Then, again, draw a bounding box around all the objects in your current layer (Or hold CTRL & press A). At this point, you can choose to Group the objects together to make them more managable but it isn't needed if you choose not to. Right click over your design on the canvas & select Duplicate (Or CTRL + D). This will copy all the objects & automatically select them without keeping the originals selected. Now it is simply a case of clicking & dragging the selected objects (Within the menu) into the new layer leaving the original objects behind. Hope this helps you my friend. If you still have any issues, do not hesitate to get in touch & remember to #StayCreative

    • @davidgruty

      @@ButtonPressGraphics thanks for que answer the problem is when I have many many elements and can't be clicking one by one. I could make a rectangle selection of the elements I want in the new layer, then group them or copy-paste. The problem I find is that sometimes when I try to select them only the items inside an specific layer get selected. I don't understand why. Maybe because I am "inside" of this layer, but I don't know how to "go out" of it

    • @ButtonPressGraphics
      @ButtonPressGraphics 20 днів тому

      @@davidgruty Ahhh I believe I know what the problem is. The bad news is that you will have to go through each layer and select what elements you want so you can select them all then drag to a new layer. If you know which elements you need, it will be easier but alas, you are correct. I am not sure of any way that you can select multiple individual elements from multiple layers and copy themm across in one go. I believe you will have copy & paste from each layer. I have to be honest though, like they say, "Prevention is better than a cure" & to my knowledge, there is only one way to avoid this! That is training yourself to always remember that you need to switch layers when working on the different aspects of your design. When you start to work on a new layer and then forget you are within that layer. Unfortunately this means you will continue to add to the previous layer before realising you have added all the new shapes to the wrong layer. On this, I can relate, I have made that exact mistake many times myself lol. I have a method that I use personally that helps to avoid these things. I simply lock the layers down! When I move onto a new layer, I lock down the previous one with the little Padlock button to the right of the layer name. Then, there is no way I can select or edit any previous work. Further to this, I try to only have basic layers IE one for colours, one for strokes/outlines, one for the background/template. These two things in conjunction will help you in future projects. Once you get into the habit of locking layers down when not in use or not adding to them, you will find your workflow will improve. A lot can also be said about finding your own way too, though. The method I just outlined is simply a method that I personally like to use. If you think somethhing else is easier, you should do that. If you need any further help, do not hesitate in reaching out via email (buttonpressgraphics@gmail.com). This way you can attach pictures so it is easier to understand the issues you may be having. I hope that this helps in some way. #StayCreative my friend

A couple are arguably much better methods for a more realistic look but this is the easiest method. If that is something you want me to cover, just let me know. As always #StayCreative my friend

    It looks like the devs have updated the gradient tool. Easier to use I see and other refinements

    • @ButtonPressGraphics
      @ButtonPressGraphics Місяць тому

      Yes, they have. You no longer have to select the gradient tool to edit the gradient. As soon as you select the gradient, it appears as default. Also, there is the introduction of the new editing for them too. Well noticed my friend. #EagleEye #StayCreative

      @@jecajSudbine That is a fascinating idea. It what way do you mean though? Are you meaning a word processor tool that would work in the same way that MS Word works? Honestly, I do not know if that would work but I am no developer. However, I think it is a very interesting idea. I suggest leaving the idea in the forum on the Inkscape website. Great suggestion. I am glad you enjoyed my video. Remember to #StayCreative my friend

      @@ButtonPressGraphics Yes, you know how you can use tables in Word to position text or graphical elements. That would be an awesome tool to have in Inkscape because you could, for example, design complex posters or even magazine pages.

    • @ButtonPressGraphics
      @ButtonPressGraphics Місяць тому

      @amigaworkbench720 That is something that can already be done within Inkscape my friend. There are many ways to create tables and use them to create complex poster designs. For example, you can create a table and then convert them into guide lines. This allows you to use them for whatever is needed. I may make a video explaining this as I am not sure if this is something that has been covered. Thanks for the idea my friend.

    In the perspective part, there are no mirror options

    • @ButtonPressGraphics
      @ButtonPressGraphics Місяць тому

      @@levirodrigues745 Ahhh yes! I am well aware my friend. I got in touch with the devs regarding them not being there and they confirmed that it is a bug. They will be outputting a fix with the 1.4.1 update. Until then, I suggest using guide lines instead. For example, if you want to mirror in vertical, drag a guide from the ruler 📏 at the top, place it where you want and use snapping to snap the relevant node to it. Sorry I couldn't be more help than that on this occasion but rest assured that the devs are aware of it. #StayCreative my friend
