    The ability to move the Command Bar to the right isn't new. It's been around at least since 1.3. The UFB and Filter Library are definitely nice additions. I keep hoping my suggestion of being able to flow text between Text Objects will emerge. This would make Inkscape a usable DTP system.

    • @ButtonPressGraphics
      @ButtonPressGraphics День тому

      Hello my friend. I know that the command bar moving to the right isn't a new thing, however I was trying to explain the changes you will get as default with 1.4 rather than the different customization options that were already there. As for flowing text, yes! I definitely agree. Flowing text is currently quite tedious to do so stream lining it would be a welcome change. Who knows, maybe they will soon. I suggest visiting Martin Owens channel (www.youtube.com/@doctormo) & suggesting it to him if you haven't already. Thanks for watching my friend 😁

      I just used this as an example but you are the second person to ask about it lol. So yes, of course I can & if you require a full tutorial on how to create designs like this, let me know. Here is the process: Enter the text you would like Duplicate the text by right-clicking & select Duplicate Create the shape you want to use (In the example I used a circle) Layer it over the top & get the placement where you would like it. Hold SHIFT and left click the duplicated text and the shape so both are selected. Go to Path> Select Intersection. And that is it. You will now have two layers, one is the text you originally entered and the second will be a cut out of the shape layered over the top. Any problems, let me know. I am happy to help. #StayCreative

    Excellent thanks Rob. I couldn't follow how you got the text intersecting with the ellipse - was it just an intersection boolean command?

    • @ButtonPressGraphics
      @ButtonPressGraphics 5 днів тому

      It is indeed. I simply used it as n example of a method that is commonly used. FYI - I simply created a ellipse over the text > Duplicated the text > Held Shift to select both the duplicated text and the ellipse > Then used the shortcut of Ctrll+* (Intersection) as the boolean command. I have used this method many times but if you would like a full tutorial on how to do it, I would be happy to do so. #StayCreative

    My issue arises after an object is Duplicate, then wanting to add 0.5 inch (for an example) to the Height and Width dimensions of it. Everything starts looking great along the horizontal & vertical straight lines but ends where the curved lines start by not showing the 0.5-inch distance that was added. Can’t show the two objects, but for instance, 1. Draw a rectangle, any size will do, with a Black Stroke & Zero Fill. 2. Using Node Editor, make the lower left vertical side extend outward. as if it is expanding in this area. 3. Duplicate it 4. To the Duplicate object, add say 0.5-inch to the Width & Height dimensions., Change the Stroke color to Red. 5. Place the Duplicated object over the original object and Center both Horizontally and Vertically in reference to the largest object. 6. Look closely at both objects, looking pretty darn good until you come to the blown-out area. It appears & is closer to the original object. I have tried everything, but yelling, reason being people might hear and think I've gone mad. Please help and Thanks in advance.

    • @ButtonPressGraphics
      @ButtonPressGraphics 24 дні тому

      I know the exact problem that you are having. When it comes to the offset, it is great for creating a border "by eye" but not great for that precise design. The way around it is by using a particular Path Effect. The path effect in question is called Tiling. In essence, this allows you to "Tile" duplicates of your object in rows & columns. So if you wanted to, you can have two rows and one column which gives you two of the same object. You can then use the Node Tool to lay one over the other (so it looks like there is only one. From this point, you can use the Path Effect settings to increase/reduce the size of the object in any way you like. I have other videos that showcase this, but I have been asked about this a lot, so I may do a Short in the next day or two. If you still need help, email buttonpressgraphics@gmail.com & I can happily walk you through it step by step. Hope this helps 🙏 ☺️

      @@1gdfoster1 When it comes to laser engraving or home printing, unfortunately I am no expert. However, I can share what I know. I believe you may have to do it in layers. For this, maybe using multiple scans with the bitmap map help. When you do this, you can select how many layers you would like, the default being 8. This will separate the 8 layers into ascending order from light to dark. So, depending on the design, you could always use Ungroup to single out each layer and then engrave each layer over each pass of the engraver. As I say, I am not an expert so I may be way off the mark as I haven't used an engraver before or produced any engraving projects for any clients. This is just what I would consider to be the most logical way to go about it. However, I can recommend Laser Everything. It is a youtube channel dedicated to laser engraving. So, with that said, from the design aspect of your designs, I can help you but for the laser side of things, I suggest giving him a watch too. Here is a link to a video I thought may help ua-cam.com/video/w0sR1J3seRU/v-deo.htmlsi=QgBs3n3y7u7IyVic Again, I am sorry I could not be more help and give you a definitive answer that will help. hi, thnaks for all your videos, can you teach me, how can i creat a correct cmyk PDF file to press

    • @ButtonPressGraphics
      @ButtonPressGraphics Місяць тому

      Of course but you will have to bare with me as most of the work that I do on Inkscape isn't for Printing, but I do not mind sharing what I know. So firstly, CMYK. CMYK can be difficult when printing from home. If you are using a print service however, there shouldn't be a problem as long as the DPI is high enough. The dev team are currently working hard on this but as of right now, it isn't in the best state. You can edit in CMYK by selecting it from the drop down tab within the Fill & Stroke menu. As for the PDF file, again, there is a slight issue. You can, by all means, select PDF as the file type in the bottom right corner of the Export menu. However, if you are wanting a multi-page PDF, you will have to use an app like PDF Sam in order to convert all of the separate PDF files into one file. As I said, I do apologize but printing isn't my area of expertise & I do not want to advise you to that affect without knowing what I am talking about. I see that as dishonest. However, with that said, I have recently (In the last two weeks) started to explore this topic more. I hope you find this information useful and I am sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Please lmk if you need anything else. I am sure that between the two of us, we can work it out 😁

      @@ButtonPressGraphics Ok, thank you, that's fine. My question is for offset printing, flyers, posters, etc. I made a print and some colors changed, I think something went wrong when exporting to PDF

    • @ButtonPressGraphics
      @ButtonPressGraphics Місяць тому

      @@andrescastillocorradine1052 I believe the issue when printing is exactly that. If you set to CMYK, the standard colours work as intended. Of course CMYK being the colours that most printers use. The solid colours seem to work fine from what I know but it is when you start to use CMYK with overlapping colours and/or gradients.. That is what causes the issues. However, concerning CMYK, I cannot claim to be an expert. The dev I watch the most (& is far better at explaining it lol) is Martin Owens. If you want to check him out, follow the link below. Maybe he can cast some light on it for you www.youtube.com/@doctormo

    Another brilliant tutorial, thank you. Probably a topic that most people overlook and wonder why all their hard work in Inkscape doesn't come out right once exported. I didn't know the bit about physical DPI, that's so helpful. I do love the way you explain things. You always give the "why", and evaluate the options if there's more than one, you never say just "do this, do that". I have learned so much from your videos.

    • @ButtonPressGraphics
      @ButtonPressGraphics Місяць тому

      Thank you so much Linda. Yes! I always try and give the "Why" because that is how we learn. If you understand why you are doing something, it will cement it into your mind making it easier to remember. I often noticed other videos didn't explain when I first started so I am really happy that it isn't wasted on the people watching. As for the Physical DPI, you are correct. It is very often overlooked because people do not know that the option exists. I remember resizing the canvas and my project so it would work at the correct resolution when increasing the DPI. It was only when I thought "There has to be an easier way" that I found out about the Physical DPI. Thank you for your continued support, it means a lot 😁 #StayCreative

    Nice video, very helpful and to the point. I have tried this method with words and I always get some distortion on the letters or numbers. Lines do not move out and the angles and Lind become a jumbled mess. What am I missing? Any help is greatly appreciated. 🙏

    • @ButtonPressGraphics
      @ButtonPressGraphics Місяць тому

      Hi Darcy, yes! When it comes to text, it can become difficult as it will sometimes glitch. I can only assume that is what you are referring to. Unfortunately, this is a bug when working with the more complex shapes ie lots of curves and corners. There are two methods to rectify this. Firstly, try to reduce the spaces (Depending on the text font that you use). The less space there is between the letters &/or words will help. If this is still giving you issues, you can use the Tiled Clones Path Effect to increase the diameter of the letters/words as long as you have turned the text into a path first (Object To Path in the Path menu), I also have a video on that particular Path Effect if you are unaware of how to use it. This will allow you to layer objects over the top and increase the size. You can then use the offset to curve the corners if that is what you wish. Although the second option is more complicated, it can give a better result. I hope that this helps but if not, you can always reach out to me via email (buttonpressgraphics@gmail.com) and I would be happy to walk you through it step-by-step 😁

      When it comes to the Trace Bitmap feature, it is not perfect but the mode makes a big difference. Try experimenting with different modes. Remember that even when you use this feature, once you Object To Path via the Path menu, you can then edit any of the points with the node tool to rectify it. If you like, send me a picture via my email & I will be happy to advise you in that way my friend. Hope that helps #StayCreative
