It was a dark Saturday night at Mini Mayhem. I was riding the trails by myself when suddenly my mini bike stopped working. Out of the fog came Scuba guy on his motorbikel. His eerily silence and appearance sent shivers down my spine. Without a word, he strapped my bike to his and towed me back to camp. Once back, he stared me down as if to say "be more careful on the trails", then rode off, back into the misty haze at busco.
Well, now it's complete. This channel is now officially the mini-bike/go-kart equivalent of "Top Gear"... including having it's own version of The Stig.😉
thats cool man. i had a blade z electric scooter in the early 2000s and that thing loved doing wheelies. i would take it off little jumps too. i think it just had a lead acid battery. amazing how much the technology has advanced since then. when the scooter died after several years of heavy use i built a mini bike with a 5 hp honda and then a go cart with a 5hp tecumseh. good times. im in my 30s now but these videos bring me back. so much fun. makes me want to get back into it and start a build.
Loving the project guys. I build electric things. I currently have a few mini bikes including a 23kw MM frame mini with 12" wheels extended 8". That controller is too small for that motor. Gran yourself a fardriver. Nd72680 would be good. They're far easier to tune than VESC based controllers. I do love VESC but from companies like 3shul. The most important part of the bike is the battery, then controller, then motor. Your controller is limited by the battery. Your motor is limited by the controller. The primary part to spend your money on is the battery. This isn't meant to be critical of the project at all. I'm loving the electric builds as well as the gas.
If there was anything you guys have built that was so sketchy you needed full on race equipment, suit, boots, helmet, gloves ,chest protector, THIS IS IT 😂, that thing was so fast, I have no doubt if Ike could send it full beans around the C@C Grand Prix track, it would be #1 atop the leader board ,that thing is crazy fast , good video guys cool to see it hauling it around the track and no engine noise 👍🏼
I built my own electric beach cruiser, and I love it. With the current cost of fuel, it is the equivalent of over 200 mpg for cost, and this cannot be beat. Now... I wonder if I can find one of those cargo bikes with a small ute-like bed and an enclosed cabin, that would be amazing and possible to ride all year, including in inclement weather.
I found an electric mobility scooter on the side of the road with a "free" sign on it the other day and tossed it in my truck, thinking I could do something with it and a minibike. I don't know if I have the skills to do it, but when I saw the title, I was excited to see if this was similar!
You guys need help with that VESC controller. Very configurable but a bit quirky as well. Make sure you are loading the controllers current config to whatever device you are using to configure it. Load the motor config and the input config. Traction control is only available with dual controllers and they have to be tethered to each other via the CAN bus. You don't need 2 Bluetooth dongles just hook up the CAN wires. The pausing you are getting is what it does when an error pops up, turn that crap off...set it to 0ms. That's under motor settings, general, advanced "fault stop time" make it 0ms. If you don't turn off the bike you can read error messages, I recommend using the desktop version vs the app. More knobs to twist and easier to read. If you are just running with what the auto setup program set you with then you are running way underpowered. There are hundreds of settings in this thing. It's a little tiny controller but if you know what you are doing you will get way more power than you would think. This is the platform that will teach you about electric motors. Take advantage of it. I work from home and I can help you. I can save you a bunch of grief. The learning curve is quite steep but all the directions are in English.. You guys are doing it wrong. I just want you to faster, safer. You can give tune every little thing and save profiles, each ruder can have their own config. These controllers are very flexible. I highly recommend getting a water cooled one, the 75300 is usually like $229 on Amazon. You will need to buy a computer radiator and a little pump and some tubing but the water cooling allows you to push past the 300 and when your done with the bike you can make a hydrofoil board or whatever. VESC is for all vehicles from one wheels to boats to paragliders. You need assistance. I'm tired of cringing every time you guys do an electric build. I don't feel like I would wasting my time helping you if it means I get to cringe less. Just saying. lol
@trevorfoy6307 Look at my profile picture silly person. There's a grown man wearing an anime animal head, does this seem like something a hater would be seen in? Seriously. Those of us that are a little older can give each other a hard time without needing to speak to a therapist afterwards. There are hundreds of settings in VESC tool and they have an event coming up. Instead of them fumbling around and getting mediocre performance I was offering to help since I have many yesars of experience with these controllers and many many others. Sometimes a short conversation with someone that has experience with a piece of equipment you are unfamiliar with can make your life easier. I'm very sorry if my offer to help someone that isn't even you has somehow overstimulated your sensitive little hind parts or caused those parts to be hurt.. I tease, yes, but I also go out of my way to help people. I think you detected a tone that was not there. If you are detecting a tone now, well now you are actually right. Have a nice day.
Bro night ride on friday at MM. I was chatting it up with scubaman. We could talk since we were both on e-bikes hurting feelings with all the powa. We even bump started John's crosscart. He hit the mudhole wide open. -green "stock" razor

When you guys put the big wheel on the back, I thought it would need a beefer drive belt. Let's watch the rest of the video and see if I am right or wrong. Might go with a chain tensioner? Stunned that the belt held up! And I guess they took another link out of the chain. That bike is scary.
Three things that’s why locomotives use traction motors, also you guys really need to build an all electric buggy(cross cart style) with 2 of those motors or 4
@@Ty-bz7zx i'd be inclined to 3 in an awd config.. front single motor+diff, twin rear motor, one per rear wheel, will let you literally torque-vector with a steering sensor
@@niteriderevo9179 I feel more power would be more entertaining =) I'm not sure they need more complicated electronics involved =)) Seriously though, any setup/cross-cart style would be fun to see.
I have not laughed so hard from a C&C video like this one. John's uneasy with scuba man is like privates when the drill SGT is walking around formation.
Honestly, it won't do much. The driver would instantly expand and you'd be stuck in high range. It's better to just use a strait gear to gear setup as you also get losses in the cvt.
Oh god you want the band aids for combustions engines to mimic the same thing as the electric motor does naturally, to worsen the performance of an electric motor. Yes my (moped car, 45kmh) diesel 2 cylinder with centrifugal clutch and continuous variable transmission can be directly swapped for just an electric motor and drive/output the same. I suggest you look at some torque and power diagrams from engines, motors and gear ratio's. An electric motor can benefit from maybe a 2 speed transmission if it's small and you benefit from high acceleration low gear and a top speed gear. Use a big enough motor and you have ample torque down low and high speed with just 1 gear ratio.
@Fantaman900 Thank you! I've been wanting someone to implicate a 2 speed transmission with an electric motor...... there's not many 2 speed transmissions out there tho. Rather B Welding created a 2 speed transmission a long time ago...
You can tune everything to fix the lag and overheating but you can also liquid cool the controller. A 250 dirt bike is the perfect platform for a setup like that!
Yes exactly.... Actually an old aluminum frame 125 would be perfect for lightweight and good suspension... Actually I would consider a YZ85 OR even 65 frame seat plastics with a set of 85 forks swingarm and 19" wheels on it.... That would make it light and still stout.
This is the kind of thing anyone would want to do but it's so dangerous to wire up if u don't know everything your doing unless it's plug n play but this much power you need to be careful if you'r new to this much voltage 39:57
Would love to see a 4 wheel version and for the over heating problem try a heat sink and vent the air from front to back this will help for proper cooling 👍

Sometimes, the regen on my buggy was a pain because sometimes you need to be able to freewheel. I was going to look to see if I could incorporate a switch to turn the regen off when needed, but unfortunately, I didn't get around to it. The overheating control panel.
