Yoo this is such a great idea. Taking it one step further, I use Studio One which has take lanes as well, except they call it layers. You can actually sort of comp midi layers to create one cohesive layer. So this means you can use the layers to create several variations and then comp them together to create a mish-mash of your takes which will create unique bass lines. Can work with anything really.
