Hi Xav a really nice forest with oaks, great pot suits the set up, is it not a bit late to do the root work ? Useful information about the staples, they are how I fix moss to the soil, maybe people just starting will benefit from your advice. Look forward to your project Xav, that’s part of the fun of bonsai challenging yourself to do different projects, keeps you fresh and a reason to get up in the morning. Good luck with it.
I literally did my last repot two days ago - and it is always oak. As you know they open up last in most bonsai gardens so I often find myself doing them in mid-April. Beech can alos be quite a lot repot candidate for me. Enjoy the rest of the weekend Joe.
Love this planting. Oaks are such a special subject for bonsai. Always makes me grimace though when I watch others do beautiful moss underplantings......the tiniest piece of moss within a mile of my trees and the birds make it their mission to ensure it doesn't stay there....grr!
If you have watched much of my channel you will know that birds are my biggest gripe...next to cat poo. This is the first year I have bothered to moss anything, apart from my Larch Mountain planting. Most of my repots get covered with little rocks to stop the pesky bleeders pulling everything back out again - it normally looks like a warzone. I feel your pain - trust me :)
Oak trees are some of my favorite bonsai and it's fun to watch them develop. Yours are looking really nice! I started a batch of valley oaks this year and I'm really looking forward to making a forest and a few tight groups. Thank you for your content it's quite inspiring.
I appreciate you saying that. oaks are another variety that are so much fun to learn on. So versatile and so forgiving too. Feel free to send me some pictures of what you are up to :)
Nigel Saunders will be so proud of you it looks amazing I am doing the same but with orange trees I have grown from seed two years ago ,I love your videos and look forward to the new ones thanks for sharing your knowledge cheers pal ...
YES! Bring on the Oak Ents!! The forest looks lovely with the small gully - just perfect hollow way for a leopard to stalking! The pot is truly gorgeous - should complement the leaves just perfectly.
That was exactly what iw as thinking about the colouring. I've just finished the edit on the Ents video and I love it...the chat may not appeal to everyone this time :)
Dang wind anyway! If you're like me, you have to be forced into improving the equipment. That new pot for the oak forest is just the ticket. The trees look great. Even though you couldn't "drop" that section, the undulations work nicely. Glad the Wild West Forest isn't giving you headaches - yet. And, I really look forward to the Ents. I loved that part of Lord of the Rings and felt it pretty much got short shrift even though the movies were already brutally long.
Your oak forest is looking good and I am just trying to develop the secondary structure for a decent canopy. It is resting happily in your 'Sanctum' :)
Thank you very much for watching videos and for your feedback. I put in a lot of hours into each video to create ambient genre for people, so that they can sit relax and watch the bonsai. Because bonsai thing is not a work is a joy. As you say "Retreat"@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat
Thanks - such a wonderful find last year. I was so eager to get this repot done and I am very happy with how it turned out. Now the project just needs time :)
Ents YES! Those would make great Ent!! What was this video about again? Oh ya... A forest. Haha! That forest is coming along nicely, looks great in that pot! Sorry about your camera :( Perhaps on windy days put some weight on the tripod feet. Large ziplock bags of dry pea gravel would work like sand bags. Or that person washing their driveway making noise, can hold the camera for you. Then they can not make noise while you film! Two birds with one stone! Great show Xavier!
Ah Xav shame to hear about your camera, I know how you feel a similar thing happened to me. Very nice looking oak forests and I'm sure it'll get even better in time
Your forest will look great in a view years just one thing to note is that the trees in the front of the forest should lean forwards not backwards, fix tha, and it will look much better 😊

Your pot matches the texture of the bark on the oaks nicely. Really like the way forest now looks. 👍👍
Thanks guy - that was the aim for the colour :)
Love the forests new pot and absolutely love the oak ent ❤😍 Thanks Xavier and enjoy your day 😘 Cheers 🙋♀️
Guten tag Martina. Ich liebe der Oak Wald aber ich brauche weitere Filialen :)

Amazing how great they look with a nice carpet of moss! 👏🏽 well done! 🪴
Cheers - the staples seem to have stopped the birds as well. It looks great outside my backdoor
Good work xavier. Looking forward to seeing the results of the ents. 👍
The video was finished yesterday and is a lot of fun. I hope...
That’s a beautiful pot. Great colour and patina.
I've just learned a new word - patina :)
Love the pot. And the whole forest.
The pot has really taken it up a level - now I just need to develop some more fine branching to thicken out the canopy ;)
I love oaks. The planting with that pot look superb Xavier!
Another favourite species of mine too :)
Beautiful pot
Cheers Donna - now I just need to develop the canopy of the oaks :)
Lovely repot Xavier! I love the pot it is in too. Oak is one of my favourites! (and it is the tree of my city!)
Is it really? It is certainly nice seeing it everytime I walk out the backdoor
Excellent group planting and a lovely pot, glad to see you have a new camera.
Thanks Mark - no option on replacing the camera as i love this community too much :)
@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat that’s good cos we’ed all miss you
Great Forrest! Also I’m excited to see when you work on more Ents! Those are quite cool ideas.
They are on the march already and look pretty good even at this stage :)

Glad you managed to replace your camera so quickly Xavier xx That pot is an absolute beauty 😊xx
Strangely enough, that forced me to redo some tutorials and I have found a better setting for video work :)
Beautiful pot, fits perfect with the trees😍🌳

Great group planting and pot is really nice. I like the shape and color, I can imagine using this one for some of my projects. Greetings.
Thanks for that - I have never been that good at matching pots and colours to my trees. So I appreciate the vote of confidence :)
Love that pot 😮 forest looks great too.. bugger bout your camera. Thanks Xavier
Thanks Nerina - the show must go on. The Oak Ents are now grimly marching to war...

Thanks Kennet
great video, please follow up with an 'after' video. I want to see how this looks fully leafed out !
You will definitely see this oak regularly. I will probably feature it in one of my pruning updates in late May / early June.
Ah Xav shame to hear about your camera, I know how you feel a similar thing happened to me.
Very nice looking oak forests and I'm sure it'll get even better in time
Pots really do make a difference - just a shame they cost money sometimes :)
Looking forward to the Ents, as well as everything else! Say.... what is that root hook you like so much and why? What's the difference? Cheers!
It was handmade by Bobcat Bonsai. It is just such a great weight and the spiral shaft seems to be very effective on the rootwork. I love it.
@@XaviersBonsaiRetreat I've contacted Matt to see if he will make one for me. Gotta support the handmade!

I shall keep a note of this comment for my next adjustment. Thanks :)
love the pot. good work. Do you put keto miuck under your moss to help it grow in?
No - I have quite a thick moss bed or this variety. I used ground sphagnum in an earlier projects to help bind the moss and that worked beautifully.
Foist..😂😂
Thank you kindly and enjoy the rest of your weekend :)
Oaks are so slow, good they live 1000 years so they have time to leaf out 😝
That definitely made me laugh :)
Glad you managed to replace your camera so quickly Xavier xx That pot is an absolute beauty 😊xx
so good - you might as well tell me twice :)
