My husband loved this song. He passed away four years ago. I had it sung at the memorial mass for him a year after he died. There wasn’t a dry eye in the church. Then I had the title tattooed on my arm before I saw Justin Hayward live in 2022. The title may be tattooed on my arm, but those lyrics are engraved on my heart. ♥️
*Had* to have this album after 11-17-78 when I shook hands with Justin Hayward in Springfield Coliseum, calling him "my favorite living musician" and seeing those "weary eyes" soften.
My brother bought a copy of War Of The Worlds on cassette tape in the 70's and played it quite a bit. We both loved it from start to finish. Richard Burton was a fantastic narrator, and I remember being pleasantly surprised that David Essex played the young Artilleryman.
David Justin Hayward OBE is an English musician. He was the guitarist and frontman of the rock band the Moody Blues from Brum aka Birmingham England.A great album I still have the Double album.Stay safe young lady.
Justin Hayward has a tremendous voice. He was the voice of the Moody Blues. Jeff Wayne created a masterpiece. Listen to the entire album… you will not be disappointed. I remember when it was released. Jeff Wayne wrote “Forever Autumn” and eventually gave it up to Justin because of that beautiful, weary, and emotional voice of his. This song always gives me goosebumps and I appreciate you reacting to the original version straight from War of the Worlds! 💟☮️

Hello Sarh, 60 yesr old guy in Tasmania, Australis here. Just thought I’d give you some background to this rather complex work. The original story, one of the earliest science-fiction stories was written by Herbert George Welles in 1896, so 118 years ago now. The story is set in thst time, late Victorian Englsnd. In the mid 1970’s Jeff Wayne and others decided to re-tell the old story as a musical…and this is the result. It is still set in 1897 amd the protagonist, a journalist, does a whole lot of walking, from about 20Km east of London to anout 20Km west of London along the north side of the Thames…thete were basically no cars st that time, but there were steam locomotives and steam ships, like the one his girlfriend was on, you hear the steam whistle twice in the somg….this is a sound not really reproducsble today. Forever Autumn is one of the most haunting, melancholy and beautiful songs to come out of the 70s. This decade produced some of the most haunting songs ever written, evidence Nights in White Satin, Someone To Lay Down Beside Me, etc. At the time of this song came out also released was Firefall's Strange Way which can go hand and hand with the foreboding, haunting nature of this sumptuous song. God bless the 79s and the glories of my youth and the songs that defined my life. From Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds, about the foreboding and oncoming of an alien invasion. What an appropriate song for the narration. Gorgeous.
@@NYCOPERAFAN That is true. The reality is it didn't become popular, at least here, until 1972. I heard it for the first time on AM radio, WKIX, out of Raleigh that summer. Howdy Sarah, Michael from Texas. Great reaction!. I've loved this song since I heard it on that album. I listened to the whole album at night, with all the lights out and sitting in the middle of the room with my speakers turned toward me. It was amazing.
