It's so expensive tho
I really want one but at the same time I want to keep both my kidneys
Cassie kreemer I am so poor I will have to sell My leg and kidneys to get the money for this
Thanks, this is the best Cintiq Companion review I've seen so far.
flag you liked it :)
Draw with Jazza You flagged him for liking it? Tsk tsk. Shame shame, Jazza.
SennKuro hahaha xD
Were the bathroom scenes necessary?
yes.
+Draw with Jazza LOL
+Draw with Jazza I thought it was very funny !! and realistic haha
+Draw with Jazza I agree, plus it showed that now there is no excuse for getting the job done.
+Draw with Jazza can this play a game like minecraft
07:44 that part nearly killed me !!! xD
Same
Well "desinged" was it? Haha i cant talk i make at least 5 spelling mistakes a video. Good review. Also, i have had the cintiq 13HD for a little over a year and while the stand may work fine, i have noticed it has started to fall apart, nothing serious but some of the plastic on the bottom of it has come loose, maybe thats what everyone is complaining about
So you use a Cintiq 13HD, I've been considering buying one bcuz my current Graphic Tablet is terrible. And at the same time I prefer tablets with screens.
Btw I love your animations and artstyle, you're actually the one who inspires me to make animations :3
I Big Fan m8.
Jeltrix oh thanks man, and if you have the money i would recommend the 13HD, its a really good tablet
M8 I have my own tablet but it sucks compared to that :(
TheUnseriousguy
Hey man, I just wanna know, do you recommend the Bamboo? That's all I have money for right now. Thanks
I am definitely getting one, the 1st generation.
"it ran dota 2 fine"
>has 10fps
Hey, fantastic review though. I'm trying to get it now, with the reduced price
+dragoncrystal24 he is playing Axe, no need more fps to play Axe.
+darkzler there is pressure sensitivity
Been waiting sooo long for this video! I'm not watching this because of considering buying it or anything, im just so impressed with the compainion. It's my biggest dream to have one. somebody I'll have one...

Lol. You write somebody the first time, anyway i hope it becames true :)
Tony conte oops i meant "someday"... auto text .-.
I'm glad I found your review. I am just now considering this product, which has decreased in price greatly, and I wanted to find some reviews. I trust your judgment and watch your videos all the time. Thank you so much for giving a realistic overview of this product. I do not have a heavy work flow but I don't have any space to draw and currently use a lap top while laying on a bed. This is the most horrible way to try and draw digitally with a $400 laptop. I can't stream, and constantly struggle with hotkeys, as my tablet is on my keyboard. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.
I'm 12 years old and me and my friends want to start making cartoons. We're saving up for microphones and sketchbook pro.
We're also saving up for a computer and a small Wacom tablet (forgot the model) but I was wondering if it would be easier to just buy this tablet so we don't have to buy a tablet and computer...I need some other people's opinions...
Same here I'm glad I'm not the only one and I'm 13
+toon gamer Considering the fact that you're still only 12, it will take a LOT longer to save up for this $3000 tablet than it would to buy a considerably less expensive computer and tablet. If you've got thousands to spare, go for it, but from what you've said about saving for microphones and sketchbook pro, I doubt you have the money needed for the highest end of the graphics tablet family.
Kuvari well he's saving with his friends so maybe the money saving will get a bit quick
Cat Noodke im here dreaming to get a wacom tablet as a 11 year old
You should probably stop right fucking now because nobody cares and will never watch your "cartoons"
I found out about this amazing creation too late. I'm now waiting for and trying to get the money for it's successor. I hope to get the Companion 2 as soon as possible
Stellar review! I read an awful review of this product (saying it lagged, was over-sensitive, randomly lost work, crashed a lot etc) but this is the polar opposite of that review!
i use my companion almost every day.
mine is on the way, cant wait to start playing around with it xD
saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
You still use it ?
Wow thanks for such an extensive and honest review! I've had my Acer laptop for 6 years and my Bamboo Fun graphics tablet for 8 years and I'm looking to upgrade. I've been seriously considering getting a Macbook Pro and an Intuos Pro medium, but now that I saw this review I'm wondering if this could be a better option instead. I also do professional illustration and flash/after effects animation work, so any advice would be helpful! :)
sitting on the couch in the living room surrounded in pugs, wife and pay. I think you just described mortal heaven. respect. Question, how do you find the actual work/active screen space in terms of appropriate size? is bigger better (27'' non companions)? or is this 'just right' or lacking in anyway? ty Jazz
I wish Apple and Wacom would get together and make a version with the Apple OS on it. I am sure some super smart guy or girl has already figured it out. I don't like windows of any kind and have lost to many projects because it crapped out on me or blue screened or just took a big crap. I will stick with my MacBook Pro and and cintiq 13HD. Thanks for your thoughts though.
Amen brother Amen!!!!
My companion stopped charging after a month, so I sent it back and they gave me a new one. If i had asked, they would have sent me a shipping label, but I ended up spending $60 sending it back because I thought they wouldn't do it. BUT, the new one they sent me is just fine and has been working perfectly for months. No regrets, and it's super convenient for traveling between home and school/cafes/ect!
Hi Jazza, you forgot to include one of the most important topic/part of the Companion, the Express Keys. I also do have a Companion, and one of the troubles I encounter (besides the plastic stand which is not very reliable especially standing at the edge of the table) is the very limited buttons on the left, although you can assign shortcuts for particular programs, it doesn't respond or work well if you open a couple of program and happen to switch.
I have it for over a year now, updated it a couple of times and still, those express/shortcut functions are only problem I encounter.
Anyways, long time follower here :). Thanks for the very informative video.
Great review Jazza! Someday when I have the money in my art budget for it, I'll probably pick one up.
Touch screens designed for fingers use a different technology than those designed for drawing. Even with a precision stylus you're only getting simulated pressure sensitivity, not the real thing.
+TheSUPERVANQUISH Well you're also paying for a full computer than can run photoshop and other programs. But if you have something that works for you then more power to you.
Hey Jazza, Love the videos, thanks for making them so fun to watch.
Quick Question: Who makes your smudge guard palm rejection pinkie finger glove?
I've been looking for a good one exactly like the one you have. Can you tell me the brand and possibly where to purchase? Many Thanks!
For playing on it I recommend:
Banner Saga
Hearthstone (Requires internet connection)
Endless Legend
FTL: Faster than Light
Any TellTale Games Series!
Very well made! Thanks for all the information (and the awkward shots X-D).
Thank you for taking the time to review this tablet ^^ Really considering to get one myself (:
Hello! Thank you for the wonderful review! Something like a Wacom Cintiq Companion or other tablet doesn't have to connect to a PC but it basically is a self-contained computer itself.
I used a XP-Pen Artist 12 Pro for 3 years? It's a solid tablet but requires a PC to use and let you draw directly on the screen. But it's a pretty affordable pick for getting your foot in the door with digital art.
Nice review, one small point though, not everyone may be aware but you can't plug this into a computer and use it as a standard Cintiq - it's a stand alone product so your stuck with the internal specs unlike the Hybrid which does connect to any computer setup.
Great video Jazza! It's true the price is really expensive, but here in Brazil the price is unreal :/
Hey Jazza, I trust your opinion pretty much over anyone else's on the internet regarding Wacom. I'm looking to get a Wacom Cintiq Companion 2 - is there anything they're not telling about it's drawbacks? I've heard the fan is stupidly loud for example but can't find an example of it in reviews etc.
I think you should do some reviews on some cintiq alternative tablets. For those who can't afford wacom cintiqs and some tips on dealing with a temporary alternative.
+TheSUPERVANQUISH you could always get the intuos or bamboo if you cant afford the cintiq
***** true
There is The Microsoft surface tablets, and basicly just look up alternatives to the surface to find more tablet pcs with pressure sensitivity
Very nice review for a guy that draws at a living, I need to buy a laptop for school next year and after seeing this review you made me curious if I should buy a Cintiq companion...
your dogs are so cutes *-*
Wow the 27" QHD cintiq looks phenomenal
This is how a review should be, thank you very much for this! :)
Wacom and Water!!!!! WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!!!!
it was empty ;)
Draw with Jazza can it handle games like minecraft and roblox xD the biggest games for 2017
Love the bit I'm Frank hahahaha and what's with the little lamb???????
Cool geeza loved this review and you've made my mind up to buy this tablet =)
Thanks for those tips! I just got my companion today and being completely alien to windows those tips helped quite a bit!
totally gonna buy one in few month
ya those people are probably unfamiliar about the stand because it works good and the only thing with a stand that moves is the wacom cintiq 12wx stand it slides around
In the future if I do take drawing seriously, I think I would like to try a Wacom tablet!!!! Thank you for the video!!! And your pugs are adorable!!!! :)
I'm planning to get this in a few weeks, and I'm SO EXCITED! Unfortunately, both the 256 and 512 GB versions are out of stock on Wacom! :-( I did, however, find both versions on Vistek.ca (a Canadian retailer). I'm located in the US so this means I have to wait a bit longer for shipping, but I think it's worth it! :-D
haha the restroom test was the best Part , i laught XD
really wish I had one of these for the designing process of my tcg
Using the thing in the bath? You are one brave man :D
I own a Surface pro I5 core, which is version pro 2? I still don't understand their branding thingy...
The only thing I do see the difrerence between the products is the keys on the front and of course the processor. My main question, to those who can help me, is the drawing aspect. 1024 pressure levels of sensitivity and 2048. I do think both devices use WACOM technology in their pen's drawing abilities, did anybody make the change and can say that the drawing aspects are a great improvment?
I would really appreciate for any information from the change between them two (Market value when I buoght mine was 800$ vs the 3000$ ish for the companion, trying to figure out why the long jump in price just for these few changes)
Thanks in advance and thank you jazza for the awesome info :3
is that bath time really necessary?? loll
+Triesna Sudewa Is the toilet scene necessary?
Ooh! What time... ;~)
its always necessary xD
sex sells.
What beast! And a beauty!
Darn expesnive though QwQ
I have a little Wacom tablet. At first, I wasn't sure if it was going to be enough space, but holy moly is it good! I understand why you love Wacom, because they are amazing.
Awesome review of the Cintiq Companion 2! I think you've made up my mind that this is the way I need to go rather than getting a regular laptop. I just wish it wasn't so stinkin' expensive! Couple of questions:
1. You said you use a cloth under your hand. Do you just use a regular microfiber cloth or does this come with something?
2. Do you use a screen protector on this or does it even need something like that?
Truly the best review on this device I've been able to find. I gave you a thumbs up and subscribed. Looking forward to checking out more of your reviews.
Jeremy James 1. I would recommend using a drawing glove it would work better for the extra 10 dollars. 2. NEVER use a screen protector. It REALLY screws up drawing.
Jeremy James I got a screen protector for my Cintiq 13HD, a Porsus Antiglare and it works fine. Mine came with a cloth, so I'm sure a Companion would as well. Yiynova and Huion make gloves for 12.99 on Amazon, definitely get one. Smudgegaurd is the popular brand, but for $40 it's no better than Yiynovas.
Thanks for the responses. I never knew they had gloves for that. I'm definitely going to pick one up when I get my cintiq
Ok.
This was really helpful, hope you will make more like this in the future.
I'm glad you're not an apple freak Jazza! Most digital artists are.
Sounds and looks very professional
Your pugs are gorgeous, Jazza.
That bathroom scene was hilarious
Thanks a lot for this, man, it's very informative. Can't wait to get this (or a newer version).
would love to see a video of you drawing with it from an over the shoulder or top down look so we can see it actually being worked on.
The dogs are adorable!
Great video!
Thank you for the review.
Great video. One question. Would you think the Cintiq Companion 2 is worth paying double the money or is the Companion 1 (256 / 7i) a decent alternative for half price?
Draw with Jazza Have you always been really talented at drawing or were you just okay at one stage and got better with practise? Trying to figure out if i'll actually be any good like you one day even with all the practise in the world...
Wow! Sounds like a great device!
Great review, I might get this in the future.
I have this tablet I have had issues with both the BIOS and the charger but it's still amazing :'33
awww cool, you added timelink buttons :DD
is there a way to connect the wacom Cintiq companion with another desktop ??
Hi Jazza!! This review is vey helpful so thanks for that!! :) I am wondering if you would recommend this cintiq for beginners because I have been seriously thinking of starting digital art? And does this cintiq come with photoshop or do you need to download it? Thx again!!
Playing DOTA 2 at like 13 FPS. KEK.
7:45 OH MY GOD JOS xDDD
haha, I've never thought that this review would show the true usability of the device xD
let's talk turkey, Frank, and the sheep , let me finish laughing before you do something else xD
At 5:08 when you show yourself drawing on the companion, it looks kinda late in responding. Like the line wasn't there at the same time that you were drawing it (I hope that made sense). How does that compare to when you use your cintiq display with your computer? Thanks for such an in-depth review btw!
That intro looks great
I definitely know what i'm gonna pinch my pennies for! :D I'll definitely discuss it with my mother, because i'm starting to get around to travelling in and out of the country (Between Belize and the States) and this will definitely come in handy! Especially when i start going to cons with an artist booth!
Don't forget to disable the power button so that it does not turn off/on every time you touch the right hand side. Instead it will need to be held down for a few seconds. Nothing worse than your cintiq cooking off in your bag... for Zbrush I get about 12 mill polys before lag.
On christmas i got a intuos CTL -480 and its amazing but do you have any ideas for me to make it even better or improve it its a pen small btw
jazza i saw that hulk animation on your instagram, is that a tutorial thats coming or is it client work btw this was a very good review.
tutorial on Friday ;)
What is his Instagram?
Seth New josiahbrooks
Can I make it work for left hand? I am expecting my wacom cintiq companion to arrive any day now, and I would really appreciate if you have that answer for me...(reason asking this question is because of the buttons beside the screen, of course) Thank you so much!!! Great video as always...
yep, just flip it the other way around, and the cintiq software has a left hand mode and settings
Draw with Jazza Thank you so much!!!!
Nice interview! I need some advice however. Since I'm a student on a budget, I wouldn't be able to afford this for a while, ostensibly longer than the window I have to obtain one. You said you've used a Microsoft Surface Pro for drawing, which is the alternative I've chosen as a recreational artist. What's your experience on it? I've heard somewhat positive, if a little mixed, reviews on the art capabilities of this tablet hybrid. The only prior experience I've had with digital art is a Wacom Bamboo Create and a laptop which wasn't in the best shape. The disconnect of the screen and my hand combined with the aged nature of the laptop provided a bit of a sour experience. So would you suggest a Surface Pro or maybe a decent laptop and giving the Intuos line a crack?
I got my first tablet when i was 15 too!
Hi Jazza! Thanks for the in depth review. I noticed you didn't mention the 256gig price, which is $1,800 US dollars.
Also, I got two questions. Firstly, how is the heat level of the screen after it's been on for a few hours? I'm using a Cintiq 12w and I notice after a few hours, the bottom right side of the screen heat up quite a bit. In fact, over the years, I have been using the tablet up side down so I can actually draw heat-free.
Secondly, can I use my Logitech blue tooth keyboard for this?
Thanks! :D
Wow, thank so much, I stopped drawing for 2 years and I feel so bad about it, cant live without it, pencils and papers is a real struggle so i decided to go for a tablet so I can use it for school notes and get rid of most of my papers. With so many tablets not sure what way to go, tried Surface pro 3 at work but obviously not enough for drawing. I just ramdomly bought open canvas 6, any idea or other good software for drawing softwares?
shane527x paint tool sai, krita or photoshop. Krita is free and GIMP is a great free alternative for photoshop
Why am I not subscribed to this guy!?!
Where can i get one of those pinky gloves that you use? it seems so nice to drawing
I loved the bathroom part
Lmao the toilet scene xD
Can I get something like this without the "On the Go" capability? I want an affordable cintiq-like product that isn't too large.
***** Pressure levels are an issue for me.
***** I need windows not a mobile OS
+turbotortiose There's a Wacom Cintiq 13HD which is around 800$ it's still quite a lot and you also have Huion tablets which cost around 500$
I know the review was a long time ago but I've been thinking about getting it but I've heard that the fans are really loud. I'd really like to know about your opinion on the fan, Jazza, because I was hoping to use the Companion at school and other 'quiet' places as well, but if it's loud enough to distract the person next to me then....
Also. How's the mic on it?
Don't know if mentioned before get the linux version/google version
I wish it had an option for Mac OS. I love the idea of the Cintiq companion, but I've really come to adore my Macbook (after being a lifelong Windows user) and I'm not sure how easy it'd be for me to go back. Ha ha!
I've watched this and it's made me very happy to watch this cause it's given me a better view n what it's like, but the only thing I'm curious about is does it run Manga studio an/or Sai? Mainly these are the two programs I mainly use when I'm doing commission work and it be nice to know if this can handle it, hope you know~!
the toilet scene LOL
Good review. However, I think there's something wrong with your audio set up because your "S" and "T" sounds come in harsh and loud. Very distracting.
Quick question, would the Companion be useful for 3D animation? Everywhere else says that it's great for 2D animation, but it doesn't say that it outright can't use 3D animation programs. I'm working towards a major in Computer Art Animation, and I'd love to get one just for the drawing aspect, but not if my College financial aid has something to say about it.
+ScruffyForge I read that it depends on the model cintiq c2 you get. A cintiq companion 2 model i3 is best for photoshop stuff while the higher end i7 is more powerful for shit like movie editing in adobe after affects and Maya. Hope this helps. I'm hankerying for one of these.
pyradragon Thanks for responding. I've already emailed the company about it and this is what they've had to say:
Thank you for contacting Wacom customer care. I suggest that use the Autodesk maya 2016 with a powerful Desktop Computer since the software is very sophisticated and requires a high end video card output.
I expected as much, but I just wanted a reason to purchase the device to allow me to draw anywhere.
Thanks for the review! I really want this piece of equipment now. But the price... wow. no way. Maybe in 5 - 8 years :(
And to say its GPU (which in reality isn't a dedicated gpu) is high tier is... just wrong. The gpu itself is an integrated gpu in the processor and isn't meant to play games at all. And it isn't even classified as a mobile graphics card. It is simply classified as a mobile graphics card. So this is a very very low tier gpu and people NEED to know that. Even though no one in his/her right mind would buy this just for games. But their expectations are set way too high in this regard. I really don't know how you could have been so greatly misinformed :/
Other than that this review must have been the most useful one I've found of this product :)
My main question is does this run Adobe Flashcc?
I'm entering this challenge of the month! But just a question, I recently returned to Australia from a month long holiday in America, will that be taken into consideration
PS: Collarbone size ;)
5:05 doggoooos
The only reason I'm not buying it because of windows 8. Although there is a possibility that it can run OS X (Hackintosh), I should look into this. Nevertheless your review is fantastic. I'm not even an artist ant I still watch all your episodes. :-)
I really wanna get a Wacom cintiq :(
I have a really stupid basic question, but it's something I've never understood about Cintiqs: how does it run software? I don't understand how you draw using Photoshop on it. Do you load Photoshop into it from an external source? Or does it come with software preloaded? Or do you buy and download apps for it, like an iPad? (Sorry for such lame questions, but I've never had the opportunity to see one in person, I live in Hicksville USA) I always thought Cintiqs were just fancy pressure sensitive monitors that plug into your desktop computer and use your computer's software, but I guess I'm very wrong about that...?
the desktop models are basically just monitors that double as graphics tablets, yes. However, the companion models are tablet pc's that double as graphics tablets. The cintiq companion line are akin to the surface pro devices, only the cintiq companion line is geared substantially more to artists and photographers.
This is a pretty cool tablet, even for things that don't include artwork...
Why Jazza why? I can't unsee that restroom shot. Good review other than that though.
I NEED ONE! but the price is insane.
I know this has nothing to do with the wabcom table but.. do you use Adobe Photoshop to illustrate? I have been using it and I find the brushes really difficult to shade with, even on the lowest opacity it still comes out as a big block of colour. I wondered how you shade?
Look up @KienanLafferty on youtube (he's an artist for Riot Games), I had the exact same problem as you and I found his chalk brush very good and just what I needed. There should be a link in the description for most of his videos. His brushes are free as well, which is a bonus. :P
Thank you! I have found them, hopefully they will work for me.
Then use pressure sensitive opacity
I know this is the stand alone one, but I am considering the merits of the 13 in cintiq and the larger ones 22/24 that connect to your PC. I may have missed it, but did you comment on the size relative to the others? Does it feel restrictive? I am fortunate to have the funds to get one of the larger one if it's worth it.
