That gas valve comes out set up for a 28kw boiler. So it would never have worked for a 15ri. The min/max adjust paperwork comes with the new gas valve. The previous engineer never read the instructions. Well done for sussing it. Nice job.
I guess your a Worcester guy. Modern gas valves can be a pain in the ass. Worcester gave me the set up but it still didn't work. Thats when all hope is lost and I just start fiddling until I get it lit.
Good video showing how to work systematically to resolve the issue. You covered all the salient points although I personally check all wiring before moving to the rest of the boiler. Nevertheless an informative video always interesting to see how other engineers approach the problem. Keep up the good work.
We repair and service Worcesters for social housing. These boilers are an absolute nightmare. They are easy to work on however they high maintence. Other boilers such as Vaillant and baxi ar far better.
Great video and you went through this process in a methodical manor. This is the way I carry out fault finding and find the courses at Worcester very good. They supply first class technical literature. I had the same problem on a 24i jnr on Friday and had the same result. Once again great video well done

Did a full strip down on a 18RI today intermittent lock out... (ignition/ over heat fault codes) Fan pressure is so important on these units my advice is it’s near -7.4 And there’s sighns of heat marks etc Strip it! New electrodes and red gasket Boilers sweet... (for now!) 😌
Its an easy boiler health check. Fan pressure good then the boiler should be ok. And the issue should lie with electrics/set up. The only issue is if the boiler wont fire. then you cant do a test!!
Just have two quastions i am confused a little bit, first thing first u can't adjust fan pressure, and second thing i honestly don't understand thos numbers 3.5,2.5 i know how adjust co2 on valve but what are those numbers u told us to stop working on boilers. I am not from UK so maybe there is different word for that
You have to remember to set the gas valve up when you fit a new one it comes with the settings for each boiler .I have fitted loads over the years and can't say i have had any major problems with the ones i service every year
@@HeatingGeek yes i have had it on the cdi as well when i put the valve on it didn't light a little adjustment and away it went lol.I have had a tool made up to get the leads off the Worcester I Ri and Si boilers i have tested it and it works well to make them and make a little i would sell them at £6 each would it be of any intreast to you and your subscribers i haven't done it to make me rich but to help other engineers out therRegards Lee

LOVED THE VIDEO and it would be really great if you share the tools that you use and that come handy for heating engineers especially that red tool attached to the gas valve
Five engineer call outs. Call out charge unless under warranty. Cost of replacement parts if not under warranty. Labour if not under warranty. But always the fear statement of 'don't work on these if you don't know what you're doing' - which basically means you are playing the lottery in order to get the right engineer. Eventually the part support will run out for my Potterton Kingfisher and find these videos the most informative. Keep up the hard work and diligent troubleshooting efforts.
Insurance!!! So customer is paying monthly. Kingfishers are a good boiler. Im not a fan of the mf cfl version as people don't realise that they need ventilation and access to the draft diverter. but im sure it will last along time.
HeatingGeek I've got the MF 40 and the ventilation had been an issue. We made sure the cabinet has areas for air flow. I don't know jack about the diverter. However replaced the reducing tee from the head tank in the loft, chemically cleaned and then treated with inhibitor. Then this autumn changed out the pilot orifice and ignitor. After installing a Honeywell DT90E thermostat am able to have strong control over the house temperature. If you ever need a cameraman and are in the West Midlands, let me know.
@@srhius Where the flue comes off the top of the boiler there is a down draft sensor thats needs removing to test the flue pull and to do a FGA. There is never any access to this point. I always need a camera man!!! :-)

I feel your pain.. great video, and shows how dogged and persistant you have to be, not an easy fix by any means, fiddling with the gas valve set up is a pia, many would have walked, and many had from what you said 😀🤣
I’ve been to one where my lifter bent because the baffles had never been removed in 8 years, couldn’t budge it! Fan pressure test -1.2 mbar! Simple test, tells a lot. People call all kinds of manufacturers, but if you use the same method on them and they are serviced properly( NOT FGA’D ONCE A YEAR) then most appliances work well I find.
Unfortunately the industry is in a ''Race to the bottom" with regards to servicing. British Gas are even making manufactures rewrite there MI's so servicing is less time consuming. Ask Baxi or Glowworm reps. Fu#$%@ joke.
HeatingGeek I know what you mean, I left BG because of the bullying tactics and time constraints they put on you to sell things. I like how thorough your videos are and they are very good, I lost count of the jobs where a “•service” had been done and the system had numerous faults, especially flue issues which were not recorded. Nice video, I know it’s 4 years old, but it’s rare I get to sit and watch one. Out of interest, would that earth lead have been picked up on basic dead tests/efli?
No it wouldn't. The boiler itself was earthed and it would have passed any checks for that. The earth wire from the chassis to the back of the PCB cover may have shown up then doing an earth continuity check.
And a new gas valve which I reset to the 28i junior but still needing lots of adjustment to actually fire, have also checked the integrity of the flue, condense pipe and trap ok, and the baffles and burner are all clear and back in position correctly.
I’m a 2nd year apprentice and I already think I know what you adjusted but just want to make sure was it the maximum and minimum burner pressure on the gas valve
fitted dozens of these and even one at my house, currently 12 years old and as per the instructions if readings are good no need to open it up.... only ever wiped it down, cleaned the trap and hoovered out the inner case, never failed.. but there will always be one that slips past qc in the factory.....
@@anthonynewcome128 You need to pull the baffles every five years or they seize in place, which kills the heat exchanger. Never mind what the fan pressure says.
Hi, was just wondering if you could help... I'm losing the will to live with a 28i junior green star, the boiler was locking out intermittently and to cut a long long story short its had: new PCB, new fan, new spark electrodes + gasket, new gas tube (was split) , new bearing plate, temp sensors, primary sensors and flue stat all checked and ok, ive literally re built the boiler... the heat cell cleaned and when fired the negative pressure reads -6.4. Standing pressure 21mbar and working 19.5mbar. I can get the boiler running in service mode and have the Co2's to within 0.2 on min and max of the 9.2 and 9.8. BUT... when the boiler cuts out being up to temp it will not light again going back to lock out. Have spoken to many Worcester technicians over the phone who have no idea what to do next. My apologies for the long one but I'm out of ideas?
When it doesn't light what's going on? All still the same (inlet pressure etc) Check the negative fan on correct ignition and then on failed ignition. Could the trap be backing up or a plume kit with a sag causing bad fan pressure. Or get the regulator replaced on the meter??? (if the pressure goes low).
No plume kit. Flue straight out of the gable end... boiler just goes to ignition failure. It lights for a split second as can feel heat at the bottom of the heat cell inspection hatch. Once the boiler has fired it seems to be fine until hits temp. Then it tries to light again but fails even through I had the emissions near perfect before hand. The standing stays until the boiler tries to light and the pressure drops. Then back to normal.
@@knapman1990 I really don't know. Thats very weird. I don't even know what to suggest. Maybe someone else might have an idea. If its heat related could it be a bad electrical connection? Maybe to the sense electrode. Bad earthing? Really not sure.
Great vid thanks. How's your job situation going? If you have time could you please explain the 2.5/3.5 max and min figures you used for setting up the valve? Is it to give you a guide to reset the valve i.e how many turns? Many thanks...
Job situation sucks at the moment. The 2.5/3.5 is how to reset the gas valve. You tighten the screws all the way in and then out to the correct setting. (usually the boiler will light with these settings) You can then set it up correctly once lit. All models are different though.

Not sure if you're interested in that. I've always been self employed which has been tough but never enjoyed working for someone else much... Everydays a school day just as you grasp a boilers quirks a new design comes in to play, what you need to grasp is the principles of how they work and the ignition sequence .
6 out of 10. The size is the only reason I use it. I would rather use a Regin water gauge all day long. If you need a small one then get it. It will annoy you when your tube falls off it. The magnets are not strong enough to hold it on a boiler...

I should have checked the wiring. Bit of a mistake on that. Boiler fixed in the end though and customer very happy.

I should of checked the basics first. I assumed this would of been done before my visit. Methodical is always the best approach.

Worcester boilers are my nemesis, such a pig to work on, hate them with a passion. Baxi, ideal, or viessmann all the way.

I think they are quite reliable just a huge pain in the ass to work on. They keep me in work and customers like the BOSCH brand name.
Ring your parts supplier and ask how many Bosch parts they carry. It'll be none, because they give so little trouble.

Hi Great video can rate your test 510 as I’m on the market to get a new mano
6 out of 10. The size is the only reason I use it. I would rather use a Regin water gauge all day long. If you need a small one then get it. It will annoy you when your tube falls off it. The magnets are not strong enough to hold it on a boiler...
It is my third one now.
