    I'm a self employed gas safe engineer & enjoy my work too (apart from the intermittent fault jobs, or customers telling you that everything was working until yesterday, when you know 100% it wasn't)

    That gas valve comes out set up for a 28kw boiler. So it would never have worked for a 15ri. The min/max adjust paperwork comes with the new gas valve. The previous engineer never read the instructions. Well done for sussing it. Nice job.

    • @HeatingGeek
      @HeatingGeek  6 років тому

      I guess your a Worcester guy. Modern gas valves can be a pain in the ass. Worcester gave me the set up but it still didn't work. Thats when all hope is lost and I just start fiddling until I get it lit.

    Good video showing how to work systematically to resolve the issue. You covered all the salient points although I personally check all wiring before moving to the rest of the boiler. Did a full strip down on a 18RI today intermittent lock out... (ignition/ over heat fault codes)
    Fan pressure is so important on these units my advice is it’s near -7.4

    Boilers sweet... (for now!)

      Its an easy boiler health check. Fan pressure good then the boiler should be ok. And the issue should lie with electrics/set up.

    Five engineer call outs. Call out charge unless under warranty. Cost of replacement parts if not under warranty. Labour if not under warranty. But always the fear statement of 'don't work on these if you don't know what you're doing' - which basically means you are playing the lottery in order to get the right engineer. Eventually the part support will run out for my Potterton Kingfisher and find these videos the most informative. Keep up the hard work and diligent troubleshooting efforts.

      Insurance!!! So customer is paying monthly.
      Kingfishers are a good boiler. Im not a fan of the mf cfl version as people don't realise that they need ventilation and access to the draft diverter. but im sure it will last along time.

    • @srhius
      @srhius 6 років тому

      HeatingGeek I've got the MF 40 and the ventilation had been an issue. We made sure the cabinet has areas for air flow. I don't know jack about the diverter. However replaced the reducing tee from the head tank in the loft, chemically cleaned and then treated with inhibitor. Then this autumn changed out the pilot orifice and ignitor. After installing a Honeywell DT90E thermostat am able to have strong control over the house temperature. If you ever need a cameraman and are in the West Midlands, let me know.

    Hi, was just wondering if you could help...
    I'm losing the will to live with a 28i junior green star, the boiler was locking out intermittently and to cut a long long story short its had: new PCB, new fan, new spark electrodes + gasket, new gas tube (was split) , new bearing plate, temp sensors, primary sensors and flue stat all checked and ok, ive literally re built the boiler... the heat cell cleaned and when fired the negative pressure reads -6.4. Standing pressure 21mbar and working 19.5mbar. I can get the boiler running in service mode and have the Co2's to within 0.2 on min and max of the 9.2 and 9.8. BUT... when the boiler cuts out being up to temp it will not light again going back to lock out. Have spoken to many Worcester technicians over the phone who have no idea what to do next. My apologies for the long one but I'm out of ideas?

    • @HeatingGeek
      @HeatingGeek  5 років тому

      When it doesn't light what's going on? All still the same (inlet pressure etc) Check the negative fan on correct ignition and then on failed ignition. Could the trap be backing up or a plume kit with a sag causing bad fan pressure. Or get the regulator replaced on the meter??? (if the pressure goes low).

    • @knapman1990
      @knapman1990 5 років тому

      No plume kit. Flue straight out of the gable end... boiler just goes to ignition failure. It lights for a split second as can feel heat at the bottom of the heat cell inspection hatch. Once the boiler has fired it seems to be fine until hits temp. Then it tries to light again but fails even through I had the emissions near perfect before hand. The standing stays until the boiler tries to light and the pressure drops. Then back to normal.

      @@knapman1990 I really don't know. Thats very weird. I don't even know what to suggest. Maybe someone else might have an idea. If its heat related could it be a bad electrical connection? Maybe to the sense electrode. Bad earthing? Really not sure.

    Good vid mate. Glad it’s not just me who gets these random mad faults. Just wanted to ask what you think of your Kane analyser? I’ve had an Anton last 20 years and fancy a change. Thanks

      I like kane. I have had all of them. Testo, Anton and TPI. I would get a kane again without hesitation.

      Everydays a school day just as you grasp a boilers quirks a new design comes in to play, what you need to grasp is the principles of how they work and the ignition sequence .

      6 out of 10. The size is the only reason I use it. I would rather use a Regin water gauge all day long. If you need a small one then get it. It will annoy you when your tube falls off it. The magnets are not strong enough to hold it on a boiler...

      I know. Its a lack of training for most people though. If they could/would learn the industry would be a lot better. Times are changing though.
