I think I finally figured it out. Just when you are about assigning the photo and the circular crop adjustments pops up for you to place the subject face, Zoom in on the circle to make the photo/face/subject appear bigger. It seems if you have the photo within the circle, edge to edge, Apple automatically renders the photo as I icon and not full screen. So zoom photo in like 2 or 3X zoom. Only then will it be full screen. And similar if you want the photo to be just a small icon, not full screen, zoom out and have the photo edge to edge when assigning the photo. [EDIT] With the new Apple Update, I realized that photos only get cropped when the contacts are saved to a gmail account. If you save contacts directly to your iCloud email account, all photos you assign to the contacts will remain in full as Apple uploads this photo to the cloud and can better access it across all your devices. This is 100% effective. To see where new contacts get saved, go to contacts and select your iCloud email as the default account. Hope this helps

So I realize it only works if the contact is saved to your iCloud. And put the size to 2:3. I have switched from android to iPhone so any of my contacts saved to my gmail will not be full screen but only the contacts I received after I got my iPhone will be full screen

To get full-screen photos, go to Settings > Phone > Incoming Calls > Full Screen

I think I finally figured it out.

This is the easiest steps . If it doesnt work, you may try diff ratio. For my phone, 13pro, ratio 3:5 works.

Thanks, Usually it’s saved in iCloud for a certain time duration, one year is quite long

You need to go to settings > phone > incoming calls and select full picture instead of banner
