I knew Tony for the 25 years just prior to his passing. Early on, he was like a mentor, later he was just a great buddy. He always had a good joke to tell. Some may not realize that Tony Peluso became a fantastic recording engineer, music mixer and record producer. One of the best. Tony called me on a Friday evening to talk about computers and hard drives. By the next morning, he was gone. I miss you buddy.
One of the greatest electric guitar solos ever recorded by the incredible musician Tony Peluso. The best ever recorded? Hard to say but certainly right up there. So sad that this world lost both Karen and Tony, sadly the good die young and these two were priceless treasures.
Man, it hits harder watching this, knowing a once-in-a-lifetime voice is gone. I still think the Peluso solo has to be considered up there for best guitar solos of all time.
I went to the Carpenters story In Devon uk a few years back with a good mate,he said they,re awesome not done this track, my reply no they, wont the guitar solo is so dificult to do, then the guitar player steps forward says left this till last, it,s taken 30 years to get this right , wow it was amazing, hat of to Tony Peluso a genius and very talented guy !
That was the first fuzz guitar solo ever performed in a ballad, and Richard Carpenter was responsible for that. Tony said that he was there and happy to have played the guitar for this recording, but the idea of doing it belonged to Richard. Many of their "easy listening fans" screamed, "You've sold out!" (to rock and roll) but this fan screamed, "I LOVE IT!" And still do. Had the privilege of seeing Tony and Karen do this song live in 1974. WOW! Thank you so much. RIP Karen and Tony!
Yeah Tony played a clean and "laid back" solo after Karen first called him into the studio. Then Richard told him to LET IT RIP and all of a sudden the "power ballad" was invented.
I cannot even begin to count the amount of times I have listened to this track with the inimitable voices of Karen and Richard and the superb and unique sound of Tony Peluso on guitar. Just genius that we will NEVER see again
Tony left a iconic guitar solo with GOODBYE TO LOVE.. which is one of the great instrumentals of all time it must of come from his soul .. it will live forever...R.I.P Tony
Thanks for the video It is a Great tribute to Karen and Tony My favor part is watching Karen as a teenager playing softball Some of us are from that era We were privilige to have been witness to once in a century Superstar Ms Karen Carpenter. 1950-1983 Tony Peluso 1950-2010 2022 is the year of the Tiger Karen and Tony were Tigers
Pretty much nobody can match and that has been said then AND now - She did set the bar pretty high but actually thought of herself as "A drummer that could sing a bit" - She hated being in front of an audience, which is why Richard made a deal with her that she would stand up when she sang a ballad and sit behind her drums for anything else
If anything, Tony was loyal, he remained with them until the end. I am sure all the "rock critics" at Rolling Stone magazine were blown away by his guitar solo on Goodbye To Love. Scratching their balding scalps, "How Can This Be?" Thanks for the post. Great nostalgia.
Of course Karen was an awesome singer and drummer. Tony was an amazing guitarist. Loved his fuzz solo on " Goodbye to Love." Two great talents gone; loved, and missed.
I love this video. I was thinking yesterday that I will like to see Karen playing softball and today I'd discover this home movie. This makes me so happy. I pray for karen. I know she was an angel. I believe she was taken to heaven because this world is to cruel for her. God bless her soul. We should let the world know what a wonderful person she was. The best of the best.KC you are loved by many. god bless Tony a great guitar player and an amazing person.
Thank You for sharing this ♥️ This guitar solo inspired me to play guitar. Karen stole my heart when I was just a kid. I hope you are in peace and surrounded with Love.
Wow, my wife and I were there, both at the concert and the ballgame. "Ah, what memories, what memories, from nineteen hundred seventy three" RIP Karen and Tony
Nice work - thanks for sharing this with us. Would have loved to have seen more Tony for sure considering the recent loss, but understood about the footage. I love seeing the footage of Karen playing ball - it just reminds me that she was one of the most unassuming and unpretentious stars that ever walked the earth.
@greenwich1754 The game was advertised on the local easy listening station, open to the public, and the opponents were the DJs and staff of said station. Wife and I took the day off and were surprised that the game had a lower turnout than we expected, but good for us. Karen never went onto the field without a catchers mask and she wore the "Lead Sister" t-shirt. When the game was over and we were walking back to our car, Karen was walking about 20 ft. in front of us talking someone-not Richard.
Merecido tributo a nuestra querida Karen Carpenter junto con un grande en la guitarra, Tony Peluso, quienes hoy le regalan sus mejores interpretaciones al todopoderoso.
at 30 seconds, the camera pans to take in the venue. I'm sure it's Wolf Trap and it just happens to be the Carpenters concert I went to see--I'm thinking 1974. Besides Karen, I was interested in the drummer, Cubby. But, more recently, I gravitate toward listening to Peluso. It was a great concert---especially Superstar!
Tony's life would make a great core to a MOVIE (!), about life in the early 1970's L.A. music scene--- I can hear his guitar solo covering the ending credits now!
please add more home videos of the carpenters. It is like know something new about they lives. How the lived, etc. Thanks you for this video. It's a treasure. Thanks.
Thank you so much for posting this great footage and "Goodby to Love" with that great stereo sound! My guess is that the cameraman said Karen's name at 2:33....
RIP, Tony . So sorry to hear he'd passed. ---------yes ! ---------WE REALLY WERE YOUNG, ONCE UPON A TIME. -----------------------------WolfSky9, 74 y/o
@NortonSG The concert AND ballgame?? I assume that this ballgame was open to the public? Was the team the Carpenters & band, and who was the opponent? Seems like it might have been possible to actually meet them under these conditions. I am 49, and always was a closet Carpenters fan. Karen's voice is just so comforting and warm. I guess her voice was just as good in concert. Would have loved to have seen her/them - especially in these earlier years! Where was this concert?
A great musician Tony was. Never got the recogition he deserved the way I see it. Was he married during the time he was in the Carps? I always believed that Karen's destiny was to marry someone musical, someone who sings, writes songs, plays a musical instrument. When u think about it, this would probably have worked like medication for her, being an superior musician and singer herself. I think she would've been happy with someone simpler like Tony who she likely had a lot more in common with.
She married a professional con artist. It's hard to believe but once they convince you that you need them they have you! She she found out the guy that had a vasectomy and hagness made her go ahead with it. She was so afraid of her mom that she went through with it. In the final analysis, Agnes put the final nail into Karen's coffin by forcing her to get married. That was the last thing she needed in her sick condition
Yup - and all the D.J's at the time used to say something along the lines of ".....And there go the Carpenters doing a Jimmi Hendrix song" as a joke because it was quite a departure from their normal stuff

How did he die and what year? So sad
What a great shame.. Sorry for your loss. This guy was a legend 👍👏🔊
So very sad.
Yes, he was!
You were blessed to know him. God bless you and your family!💙

Certainly, he was a prodigious in Guitar, a virtuoso & super creative artist!!
That solo is one of the best ever composed and recorded.
machone35 short but sweet
Super Cool!!!!

Richard Newman do you remember where?
Yes, great move on Richard's part.
Yeah Tony played a clean and "laid back" solo after Karen first called him into the studio. Then Richard told him to LET IT RIP and all of a sudden the "power ballad" was invented.

I admire Tony Peluso because he loved Carpenters much enough to decline Paul McCartney's invitation to join his group. Tony and Karen forever.
The OED Loves Me Not he also knew that they were responsible for his recognition for his guitar
He was a good friend to Karen.
Who was better than Karen Carpenter ---NO ONE !!
Thanks for the video
It is a Great tribute to Karen and Tony

Ms Karen Carpenter. 1950-1983
Tony Peluso 1950-2010
2022 is the year of the Tiger
Karen and Tony were Tigers
The finest female vocalist ever recorded.IMHO
Pretty much nobody can match and that has been said then AND now - She did set the bar pretty high but actually thought of herself as "A drummer that could sing a bit" - She hated being in front of an audience, which is why Richard made a deal with her that she would stand up when she sang a ballad and sit behind her drums for anything else
The combination of Karen's other-worldly voice and Tony's tone, technique, composition and phrasing - what a pairing!!
Simply the best good die young
I said this sometime ago, and I'll say it again-great guitar solo-Rest In Peace Tony. So many guitarist have learned your solo, because they love it.
Such wonderful movie footage of Karen and Tony who are no longer with us on earth. I enjoyed viewing this so much.
Of course Karen was an awesome singer and drummer. Tony was an amazing guitarist. Loved his fuzz solo on " Goodbye to Love." Two great talents gone; loved, and missed.
Lovely. I was thinking about Tony this morning for some reason. Great softball footage; Karen really could play!
I heard he will be buried today June 26th in Northridge CA. It depresses me that such a great talent died so underrated. RIP Tony.
So very sad.

oh those were the days!!!!
RIP Tony
We all loved her.
I hadn't talked to Tony for 8 years. When I finally reached out it was too late. Still hard to believe he's gone. One hell of a person.
That solo he wrote is a song in itself. It is right up there with "Hotel California" and "Stairway to Heaven". RIP Karen and Tony. :(
R.I.P. KC & TONY P.
RIP Tony my Friend
Wow, my wife and I were there, both at the concert and the ballgame. "Ah, what memories, what memories, from nineteen hundred seventy three"

An idea of RC that was just simply brilliant

@greenwich1754 Concert was at DET Energy Center, then known as Pine Knob and the game was somewhere in Southfield, Michigan.

Pure beauty, pure emotion...
Thanks; so annoying when you hear that song on the radio and they fade out the amazing ending! Beautiful footage too.
love seeing this old footage,thankyu
I like seeing the timing on this old movie camera. Takes me back to my childhood. 😎
Tony's life would make a great core to a MOVIE (!), about life in the early 1970's L.A. music scene--- I can hear his guitar solo covering the ending credits now!
Just a great thank you to a great man and a great musician!
This was the invention of the "Power Ballad". The Carpenters don't get the credit they deserve for inventing a new song form / style.
I love it Thank you
Tony - Thank you. Desiree
@Eligoliveira It's the Pine Knob Music Theater in Clarkson, Michigan about an hour outside of Detroit.
wooooooooooow thanx for the video, sooooo coooool
REST IN PEACE, THANX FOR THE MUSIC & THANX FOR MAKING KAREN LAUGH
please add more home videos of the carpenters. It is like know something new about they lives. How the lived, etc. Thanks you for this video. It's a treasure. Thanks.
Thank you for posting this!
Wow... got lost in it during the last solo.
So sad to hear about Tony.

Wunderbar
This hit the shelves in 1972!
And Doug Strawn too.
anonymous tour members nick named her 'Dragon Lady'. Peluso was an amazing artist. I remember his passing.
Yes, had heard this before.
Era ella? La amo su voz me hace sentir bien
On a lighter note, Karen really got busy on the drums! LOL.
Yoo tony .. you de man ..😁
Hey check it out! At the 2:38 mark you can see the red Ferrari they used on the cover of the Now & Then record. Ha!
What a guitar 🎸 player What a singer don't make them like them like that anymore
@NortonSG The concert AND ballgame?? I assume that this ballgame was open to the public? Was the team the Carpenters & band, and who was the opponent? They did everything they could to sound just like the record. They were wonderful in concert.
rip
Perfect pitch, beautiful hips, Karen wins!
I wonder if A & M / Richard Carpenter have any plans to have any plans to re-release something perhaps ....
Obviously, whoever shot this film was involved with the Carpenters, but who was it? Who owns this film??
Tony Peluso resembles Tom Sholtz of Boston.
At first I thought Tony Peluso was Gary Pihl of Boston.
So cool! Who took these movies?
@NortonSG
clarkston, michigan
Karen runs like a famous pop singer.LOL.Sorry that's the best compliment I can come up with.
A great musician Tony was. Never got the recogition he deserved the way I see it. Was he married during the time he was in the Carps? @@neatstuff8200 She should have snuck out a window and ran to Mexico....but we know that wasn't her
Where is this stage?
Where is this place?
what?????!!!! A beer was allowed on tour? Agnes would have had a royal loud fit over that.
a pretty decent pa for it's time
Still is !
At 3:32 when she's pitching I bet they made her wear that catchers mask to protect that millon dollar mouth from a line shot.
That's pretty funny, I bet you're right.
@@davidsheriff9274 u 2 r twisted!
Is it true they got hate mail for that solo?
Yes!
Yup - and all the D.J's at the time used to say something along the lines of ".....And there go the Carpenters doing a Jimmi Hendrix song" as a joke because it was quite a departure from their normal stuff
OMG...that is so morose!
It's nice not to see Karen make an obscene gesture or some other such nonsense @ 2:34.
She ran like a girl.
She sang like an angel ♥️💐
