Tony peluso was a great lead guitarist, I had the pleasure of working with him in the 1980's, I'm a session drummer Tony was a 1 of a kind player MAY HE R.I P. ALONG WITH KAREN GOD BLESS THERE SOULS AMEN. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Ironic that my favorite "rock" guitar solo is from the Carpenters. Tony Peluso wrote the proverbial "song within a song" when he created this solo. There are flashier, more pyrotechnic solos and players. But for sheer melody power combined with grit, to me this is the number one guitar solo of all time. There. I said it.
Tony's solo is one of the best ever written. It revolutionised pop music, because "fuzz guitar" wasn't accepted in pop music - only rock music. One of my teachers toured with The Carpenters as a horn player and he was a really old school jazz guy, but he loved Tony's solo and raved about it.
I was a very 'cool' 21 year-old when this single was released, and I was no way a Carpenters fan. And then I heard Tony's outstanding solo at the end, over the choral 'aaahhs', and it made my hair stand on end! (Still does - what's left of it!) I have been a fan ever since. What a great pity that he died so young. Well done, JY Lee - you absolutely nailed it!
Tony:. Richard was always the one with the great ideas! Richard wrote some of most beautiful music ever! Karen sang so beautifully like smooth honey! And you, JY Lee ripped it on that guitar solo of Tony's! However, if they'd played like you played JY, most people (especially those who Richard said "sold out"), would have seriously have been turned off completely! I for one loved it JY! Your guitar playing is really fabulous! Keep it up and turn I up LOUD!! Rock on JY!! 👍👍🤘🤘👏👏👏👍👍
wow love to hear youngsters…. I am considerably old switching on to classics and playing them with such skill and precision. Peluso would be proud of you.
I cry EVERY time I hear this song - and JY's playing created the same effect - boo hoo hoo - what a PERFECT song! - the melody, the singing, the lyrics, the band. Beyond belief in beauty!! God bless Karen and Tony.
0:26 That moment when the song transitioned from old Richard's voice to Karen's, makes my eyes teary. Reminds me of my parents and childhood, how fast time flies. Tempus fugit. By the way, great job on the cover Mr. Lee, you nailed it.
Yeah, it brough tears to my eyes too. Karen's voice is pure gold. She has the ability to totally rip your heart out of your body. She can make a stone weep with her angelic tones. Hell, I miss her voice so much.
Yes I have looked for live performances in the hope that it might have been extended sadly found none. I remember as a teenager being really miffed by the single edit version of the song, a travesty! A favourite guitar solo from the most unlikely of sources.
This guy J.Y. Lee hits superbly every note what Tony Peluso did when they performed this concert. Very very good lead guitar solo. One of the best I heard from this young man.
This song stuck out to me the first time I heard it precisely because it sounded sort of like the “first of a kind” by being this ballad with a kickass guitar solo. Great song.
Tony is a genius in his own way. He did a solo exactly fitting the music we expect from the Carpenters. Th reason I believe he was chosen. Richard is a perfectionist and knew whom to get. Not only on this track. Listen to the other songs (like Beechwood 45789) and you will see his genius in what is required for Richard's music.
I also have to say something about Richard Carpenter. The man loves musicians. He was the producer, he wrote all the great charts (and some of the songs, like this one), and he hired the musicians. I keep running across all these great solos in the middle of their records--guitar, sax, harmonica, drums (and not always Karen), etc. It was Richard that hired all those guys, and expressly told them to let 'er rip. Ditto for the great backup singers. These were very musically sophisticated records. As great as Karen was, the Carpenters were most definitely a team.
'Great playing. 'Totally agree with what you said. It intoxicated me. 'One of the most exquisitely beautiful music pieces I've ever experienced. Expresses all grief, all defeat.
Great rendering of possibly the best guitar solo ever recorded! Still, can't give Goodbye to Love credit for being the first "power ballad" ever because there was already this little song called Let It Be...
I’m sure it has been searched for in a decades since, but, hopefully, someday, somebody will uncover the uncut final recording of this song, with the extended guitar outro, not faded. That would be a gold mine find.
this is my favorite carpenters song. i was 13 and it was in heavy rotation on the FM station i listened to. it sounded so perfect. it still does. btw, i cry every time i hear that phrasing at the end. it makes you want to collapse into it. its a miracle.
Once again, this video and comments show what TEAMWORK really means! . . . The beautiful Karen´s voice, the genius Richard´s musical talent, and Tony´s mastery guitar playing produced this magic and powerful melody which will last forever in our minds and souls!
this is one of the most notable Carpenters tune and one of my all time favorites that guitar solo sold me to it completely and Karen nailed it just unbelievable Yes a number one record, RIP Karen!
Thank you, Mr. Lee. I generally avoid these cover videos, but yours is excellent in numerous ways. There's your playing; Tony Peluso's playing; and your cutting back and forth between Richard Carpenter, Tony Peluso, and the performances, yet with a light touch.
Great job Mr Lee, I was a small kid when this song came out and I was instantly hook by the guitar but I was afraid to comment with my friends. Now many years after I see a young guy play this guitar and I know that I was not crazy, the guitar solo in the song is what makes it unique. I like the way you play, it brings back memories.
The lyrics suit my early life, although they were dark days for me this track lifted me up somehow, so sad we lost Karen, such a beautiful performer and person, R.I.P. sweetheart ❤
Great job! I love to see young people like yourself discovering the music of days past, when music was good, listenable and everything on the radio was great. You've got good taste young brother. Keep on keepin' on!
So many nice things to say. Awesome job. Awesome that someone so young can appreciate music that is awesome. Video is awesome. Tony is awesome. Richard and Karen,,,,top of the heap. JY Lee,,,,,right there at the top as well. Good job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is one of the tracks featured on my isolated tracks channel, there a many covers of Tony's 2 solos but this is far and away the best. Note perfect - well done
According to this documentary, some of the Carpenters' fans accused them of "selling out" because they put this wonderful "hardish" rock guitar solo riff in it. Will wonders never cease.
Tony peluso was a great lead guitarist, I had the pleasure of working with him in the 1980's, I'm a session drummer Tony was a 1 of a kind player MAY HE R.I P. ALONG WITH KAREN GOD BLESS THERE SOULS AMEN. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Probably the greatest guitar solo of all time, and this talented young man performs it superbly.
Pretty hard to beat Eddie Van Halen on the guitar.
Not to mention David Gilmour

One of the greatest guitar solos ever recorded, IMHO. Beautifully melodic.
.@
Absolutely top composition almost never matched .
Tony rocked the house, and I loved every second of that masterpiece... this from a 74-year-old grandma! Karen's voice was pure gold too.
Yes Tony you made the carpenters rock. Great job you looked so joyful performing it
this is my favorite carpenter's song..
Mine to.
one of the greatest ,most underrated guitar solo s ever,a true masterpiece.
One of the best guitar solos I have ever heard.
Very cool to hear Richard talk about the creation of the song. And for Tony to give him credit for pushing him to rip on that solo.
This is the iconic solo of the 70s era it is unforgettable ❤
the rockin' guitar really added a lot to the beautiful song.
Only wished the fade out lasted another few minutes. Timeless!
I was a very 'cool' 21 year-old when this single was released, and I was no way a Carpenters fan.

Literally the best part of the song. Does something for my spirit .
@Maidenpatrol Good taste knows no age barrier! ;-)
I love Carpenters, and this song is very beautiful.

Extraordinary JY
You ROCK!
AS HOT AS THE CORE OF THE SUN!
Tony was the perfect contrast to Karen’s deliciously cool and sweet vocal.
RIP TO YOU BOTH x

Hey kid, you certainly nailed that. Good Job!!
wow love to hear youngsters…. I am considerably old switching on to classics and playing them with such skill and precision. Peluso would be proud of you.

Thanks for keeping that amazing guitar solo alive, you nailed it son.
The purest, clearest voice I've ever heard. What a loss.
Glad this got the recognition it deserves as groundbreaking & masterful! It remains an iconic ear on the 70's rock era.
Kid, you nailed that guitar solo to the wall. Amazing work.
0:26 That moment when the song transitioned from old Richard's voice to Karen's, makes my eyes teary. Reminds me of my parents and childhood, how fast time flies. Tempus fugit. By the way, great job on the cover Mr. Lee, you nailed it.
Geez that was gnarly .... man ...
Ye, she seems bigger than life, there. Made my eyes teary too!
It reminds me of my childhood too. Sitting in the back of the station wagon singing along with my family. Excellent work, JY.
Yeah
Yeah, it brough tears to my eyes too. Karen's voice is pure gold. She has the ability to totally rip your heart out of your body. She can make a stone weep with her angelic tones. Hell, I miss her voice so much.
Don't you wish the solo didn't fade out and just went on for another minute or so
More than a minute! ☺️
I think they faded out at the perfect time. Leaves you wanting more and stops short of self-indulgent.
Oh yeah!
Yes I have looked for live performances in the hope that it might have been extended sadly found none.
I remember as a teenager being really miffed by the single edit version of the song, a travesty!
A favourite guitar solo from the most unlikely of sources.
Right. Longer is better.
Great solo by a talented musician. Sad that Tony died so young. 😢
This guy J.Y. Lee hits superbly every note what Tony Peluso did when they performed this concert. Very very good lead guitar solo. One of the best I heard from this young man.
thank you very much!
You are amazing. Tony will be proud of you.
Just Like Tony Played it. Great
A great guitar solo, and brilliantly played
This song stuck out to me the first time I heard it precisely because it sounded sort of like the “first of a kind” by being this ballad with a kickass guitar solo. Great song.
Fantastic guitar playing young man, a very worthy tribute....

JY Lee, it was perfect. Congratulations !
It's a great video, I love at the 0:25 mark, the singing transition from Richard to Karen, it just gives me chills when her voice takes over.
'Great playing. 'Totally agree with what you said. It intoxicated me. 'One of the most exquisitely beautiful music pieces I've ever experienced. Expresses all grief, all defeat.
You seem to have won the approval of the '60s & '70s crew, and that ain't easy. Very nice.
Great rendering of possibly the best guitar solo ever recorded!

JY Lee, thanks for posting. The Carpenters bring back so many memories. Tony was a great guitarist and so are you my friend.
Once again, this video and comments show what TEAMWORK really means! . . . The beautiful Karen´s voice, the genius Richard´s musical talent, and Tony´s mastery guitar playing produced this magic and powerful melody which will last forever in our minds and souls!
Not forgetting John Bettis's lyrics!
this is one of the most notable Carpenters tune and one of my all time favorites that guitar solo sold me to it completely and Karen nailed it just unbelievable Yes a number one record, RIP Karen!

Beautiful song, epic guitar solo. One of my all time favourites, and Im a Led Zepper!
My favorite Carpender song and definitely one of the greatest guitar solos of all-time.
Awesomesome. The solo, when its played right, is a spiritual experience.
You can really feel it in ur soul.
I felt it in this version as well!
Thank you, Mr. Lee. I generally avoid these cover videos, but yours is excellent in numerous ways. There's your playing; Tony Peluso's playing; and your cutting back and forth between Richard Carpenter, Tony Peluso, and the performances, yet with a light touch.

I can remember Tony Blackburn playing it twice in a row when it first came out. Wonderful stuff.
Many years ago, I remember hearing this song on an "easy listening" radio station. The guitar solo at the end was faded out early.
Absolutely brilliant
Nice job on the guitar!
Just fantastic. You have both talent and taste.
Really well done. Great tribute!
Absolutely superb,awesome!
JY you did great young man you just keep it up....... . Jammer
