Great video! I love the theory that you employ when putting your alternate tunings together. I'm going to shoot you with an email. Catch ya again soon I hope!
That's impressive mate. By any chance have you made any other videos showing to clean/restore harmonicas that do not sound properly anymore? I have quite a bunch of old ones I have never thrown away thinking that maybe one day I could get them to sound properly again...) I imagine that a similar technique can be applied. Correct?
Thanks Clement. I don't have any videos about maintenance/ cleaning but I could do some, that's a good idea. If a note has stopped working it can often be fixed. As a general rule, if a reed has gone a semi tone or more flat then it can't be retuned and needs to be replaced.
Will, it is my understanding the Lee Oskar's Hamonic Minors are in the second position, it's just that they are labelled as if in the first, or am I mistaken?
No. Their Natural Minor harps are intended to play in 2nd position (draw 2 as the tonic) and so are labelled in the second position key. Therefore a Bm 'Natural Minor' harp is really just an E harp, with all the thirds flattened. Their Harmonic Minor tuning is designed to play in first position (blow 1 as the tonic) and so are labelled in the 1st position key.
@@KarmaDonyo No problem, it gets confusing! Different manufacturers label them differently too. Lee Oskar and Seydel label their Natural Minors in the 2nd Position key, but I believe Hohner label theirs in 1st.
Hello mate just a quick one I have managed to get myself a lee oskar major diatonic straight harp in B .. any advice ? Or is this just the same as say a honer marine in the same key
Please correct me if I misunderstood this: you turned a natural minor harp into a harmonic minor except the I & V chords are both minor? I have a LO harmonic minor and the I chord is minor while the V chord is major and the 7th notes are major 7ths. How is this tuning different from your All-minor Seydel harmonica?
Yes I turned natural minor in to harmonic minor. The only difference between aeolian and harmonic minor is that harmonic minor has a raised 7th. So I just tuned draw 5 up a semitone. Your harmonic minor harp will be made to play in first position, whereas the one I made is designed to play in second.
@@willharmonicawilde very cool idea, maybe Seydel will start offering it as a factory tuning. Have you ever tried Spanish tuning? I always wondered why Seydel doesn't have that tuning in their configurator.
yeah I saw how to tune and did with 6-9 as they were starting to go out just that little bit of tuning really helps.

Thank you for sharing this idea! Please, use eye protection when grinding metal.
Totally COOL !!!!
Why had I not thought of using a dremel to tune reeds?! I've been using a crumby file for years.
It's WAY quicker!
This is cool stuff, didn't know you were such a tinkerer. Is this how you came up with the Wilde Tuning?
I arrived at the Wilde tuning after trying a LOT of different turning variations!

Is my volume turned down? Nope. It's your audio levels.
Sorry about that, this was a spontaneous video and I was a bit far away from the mic
Thanx Will👍😎

@@willharmonicawilde Oh ok, I confused the natural minor with the harmonic, thanks for making that clear. Great video, thank you.

Hahaha Yeah, they work too!

They're the same. Major diatonic is just a standard 10 hole harmonica/ blues harp

Hi. Szkoda, że nie widać w kamerce jak to robisz. Czy ta Twoja re-tunowana harmonijka gra jak "Lee Oskar Natural Minor Harmonica"?
No, it started out as a natural minor harp, I raised draw 5 from a Flat 7th to a Major 7th to make it in to Harmonic Minor tuning.

That’s way hip man.
