GREAT STUFF 😁. When I watch you play you always look like your using lots of attack in your playing but not playing hard, takes a lot of self control with you breath not to get carried away. I use minor harmonicas so I can use them chords when playing. got two wild harps in C and Am don't pick them up much. I need to remember they are in my harp box and start using them on some songs. love what you do hope to see you play live again soon 😎

What a great topic. I've been wondering about this for years. I feel lucky to master the Richter tuned harp. Different tunings require different breathing patterns. I guess I have to put alittle more time into experimenting.

Are there any advantages to using a minor tuned harp instead of a richter in 3rd position for blues?
Yes, sometimes. 1. You have a natural minor scale without the need for an overblow (3rd Position gives you dorian, you can make it aeolian with a 6 overblow) 2. You have the 1, 4 and 5 chords as minor triads. 3. The note layout has its own unique expressive qualities. Both are good options for playing in a minor key depending on what you want to do.

How many harps do you take onstage at your gigs?
I typically use around 10 harps in a 45 min set, mostly Wilde Tuning and Wilde Minor.
I made a couple of what I call "Paddy Wilde" harps, where I take a Wilde harp and raise 3 blow and 7 blow up a full tone. It really opens up the other positions, and modal playing. Third position becomes a lot more playable, 4th position becomes super easy, and it breaths new life into 5th position, which now feels a lot like richter 3rd position.
Don’t you lose the 7 draw bend if you do that?
@@norfolknwhey4787 7 (and 3) draw now bends only a half step, as what was the whole step bend is now 7 blow. You also lose the 3 semitone bend, but you can still get that pitch as the 6ob.
There are some gives and takes: its easier to hit that "flat 3" more accurately because they only bend a half step now, but you lose the 2nd position licks that slide between 3 blow and 4 blow, or at least they sound different because 3blow is now a major 2nd instead of a root note. Its a compromise in order to facilitate playing in other positions.

I get why people find the potential for confusion scary because I'm myself only 4 years into this harpin' journey and feel like I need more time on Richter first. So, I was pleased that at the end you confirmed that. 👍
