- Friday, June 29th, Geoff Tate and his band stopped by The Eagle Performance Stage to play some songs for us, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of "Operation: Mindcrime". They rocked the entire album that night at the Aztec Theatre.

Geoff Tate had and still has one of the very best, if not the best voice in metal, rock whatever you like to call it. Queensryche was one of the most underrated bands of the 80's-early 90's. They were awesome!! Absolutely AWESOME!!!!
They weren't underrated
He’s singing an octave lower here - I’ve seen videos where he tried to hit those highs and failed. In his prime though? Wow. I seriously underestimated Queensryche. Absolutely fantastic.

That really surprised me as well; that vocal mic is totally dry (except for the occasional delay effect). Lesser singers would require an ocean of reverb to sound good, especially in such a stripped down performance.
I'm going to love Geoff's vocals until the day I die. The dude still has a great range!
He has one of the most mesmerizing vocals ever sung in metal.

At the time of this recording, he is 59 years old. To have that voice still at his age is impressive. Truly one of the greats of metal, hell of music in general.
Very underrated this song done like this reminds me of Roger Waters and Pink Floyd I’d never compare Queensryche to Pink Floyd but this…

Beautiful song, it was one of my sons favorites back in the nineties, brought me to tears because he was murdered last year! Geoff Tate has such an amazing voice, and as a musician myself, anyone who can sound great acoustically without digital enhancement, is the mark of a true professional!

I actually don't miss his ex-band whatsoever. (Apart from Degarmo maybe. But he left more than 20 years ago anyway.)

After all these years, and just pushing through a simple PA, no effects, and that good... that's a pro right there. And yea, DeGarmo is a freaking genius, love the guy, but Tate is a vocal legend and nothing can change that.

I still have the Queensryche album from the 80s. Loved them then! Still listen to them. Geoff, you still got it. Amazing voice!!!
I never had them in the 80s. Found Queensrÿche in 99/00 but got them all now. Still class, and Geoff is better in this video then in years!
Fucking incredible. Tate is still amazing and these 3 acoustic videos have literally made my year. Sure Tate had his problems in the band but damnit man....the guy has fucking beautiful singing chops. He'll always be the voice of Queensryche.

The writing can be amazing, but if you don't have the pipes to sing as angelic as Geoff then it doesn't even matter.
@@akiraakai I don't knock Jeff's voice, he is without a doubt one of the best if not the best Live vocalist, but the song written with degarmo had the most substance then those written without him.

Another thing I love about it is this fact. These are the brilliant bands I grew up on and here they are after all these decades still sounding amazing and doing what they do with all of their experience and experiences out shining and out performing the new bands of today. Thanks again for a good night's sleep. My two year old daughter falls asleep to you. As soon as I sit her on my lap, she points at the TV and relaxes. I don't think she's ever made it to Silent Lucidity after Eyes and Jet City. Out like a light. Me, on the other hand, thanks for keeping me motivated and self-aware. We love you Geoff.

Tate's voice has gotten deeper, which is natural... but I think his range has stood the test of time. He may have trouble hitting the old E5 in 'Take Hold of the Flame', but it sounds like he could now hit notes lower than he used to to compensate. The tone is just as rich as it used to be. Hear a lot of people saying he's not what he used to be, but that's not really fair. Most singers don't sound this good into their 60's.
Lol, this video is beyond awesome. Tate wearing a vest, a hat and eyeglasses while singing "Silent Lucidity" with a coffee in hand and another hand in his pocket... It doesn't get any cooler than that.

They band is nothing w/o each other. This bad was rare and phenomenal with each member playing its own very integral part. All parts of a whole that cannot exist w/o all of them. Do still love Geoff though! Still a badass! Can’t imagine what it would have been like if they would have stayed together all this time. Many more greats like Operation Mindcrime would have been born.

I'm seeing this for the 1st time in 2021, I really hope I can catch a live performance at a 40 year anniversary. Such talent still.
I never understood operation mindcrime until I had a conversation with a casual friend who said it tells a story from start to end . And then I got it.. listen to it like a magical story....
After all this time, this song can still make me cry. So many memories... good and bad. Geoff can still reach in and grab your heart and hold it, with his voice.
