I will always rank in his prime Geoff Tate as one of the greatest rock vocalists of all time. And you can't overlook the amazing song writing of Chris DeGarmo! Great reaction as always!
Um , he's IS the greatest vocalist before, then and now! Not just when you think was his prime. He's had some live performances that didn't perform to his normal standards, but that's what happens when your body is the instrument , a human instrument
I would agree with you on this. Two bands I have ever heard the bass most from are Floyd and Queensryche. Della Brown, Eyes of a Stranger, and so many other songs you can hear the bass so clearly. I've said this comparison before too. Especially on Della Brown
This is one of my most favorite songs of all time. The arrangement is beyond description and Geoff's vocals are incredibly stirring. The orchestral score slays me every time. Thank you Beth for blessing us with your reaction!
This is one of my all time favorite songs. It's a masterpiece, with the lyrics, arrangement, orchestration and vocals. Geoff Tate is an incredible vocalist. It's like he paints with his voice, while being incredibly precise.
Its nice to see younger people listening to the fantastic music i've been listening to for the last 30 years, quality will always stand the test of time 👍
It’s crazy that this song was really the only Queensryche song that got major success. Of course a few hit the charts and did well. But this I believe won video of the year. And this is the toned down of what Geoff can really do too.
Feel so fortunate to have seen these guys live before they were "big", and more even after they were big! High underrated "prog-metal" band, can't wait to see more Queensryche reactions!
Beth should be the poster person for why no one should EVER get Botox or other cosmetic procedures to freeze facial expressions. LOVE this woman's passion for music, right there with you Beth, feeling the feels! :)
Thanks for the video and your impressions about this classic, Beth. To me, Silent Lucidity still one of the best songs of all times. Released in 1990, is hard to put in an scale with Black Hole Sun, Man In The Box, November Rain, Pull Me Under or another classic from this era. But surely took Queensryche to another level!
I saw them play this live at the Monsters of Rock festival in 1991, something I'll never forget. The song still brings a tear to my eye every time I listen to it. Thanks for posting.
This song, from the first time I heard it, has held a special place in my heart. The sentiment and the expression is just so incredibly magical. A perfect song.
I didn't get into Queensryche a lot when I was younger, but I swear hearing this one song when I was 11 or 12 is responsible for my love of prog metal!
The whole Empire record is this good. Most people cite Operation Mindcrime as Queensryche's masterpiece and with good reason, but the Empire record is just as good in my book. Maybe even better.
Agree, I rank them evenly. OM was such a great story arc and the songs and playing and singing are top notch. Same with Empire but I think sonically it is better, incredible mixing and arranging.
I am never more happy than when Geoff & the gang are being reacted to. It cheers me up ne end especially when it's a first time reaction. I remember yours for "Take Hold Of The Flame" and then the acoustic "I Will Remember" No one else does that one but you. I love you insight. Thank you.
That was a great analysis . You caught a few things that I missed in the song, and I've been listening to it at least a few times a year since I first bought the album in 1993. I have a deeper appreciation for the song now. Thank you.
This song first came out when I was a young woman and my Grandma was in the hospital losing her battle. She was a loss that tore my heart in two and when I first heard the lyrics “someone close to you leaving the game of life” I finally let my tears run. Both sets of my grandparents taught me about love, I had difficulties with my parents when I was young and my grandparents were always there when I needed them. They are all dearly missed.
This song brings tears to my eyes because it brings back memories of a time in my life that I wish I had paid more attention to at the time it was happening and how I wish I could return to now.
Thank you, Beth! I always love your appreciation of my favorite band, original lineup Queensryche! You have a warm and wonderful way of describing what it is about a singer, and the music/lyrics that makes a song more than the sum of its parts! Great analysis, as always! Will love hearing you sing " wickedly" too!
You are one of the best people who react to music. You are not bland like others i have seen. I love how you show your feelings. It is more joyful to see people enjoy music the way you do; gives the music even more, spice, if you will. Thank you.

The late great Michael Kaman did the magnificent string arrangements on this song which also makes it so great. If you listen at the end you will hear a little snippet of Brahms Lullaby

Nice rendition of wicked games, gives me an oddly within temptation vibes. Your voice adds some really nice and very emotive qualities to the song at the tempo that it's being played at.🙂 some nice build-up to the chorus as well. I like the emphasis on the song actually sounding like a question rather than a statement and the background headvoice screams. Nice way to create more depth on a sound level🙂.
Glad to see this. This song has so much depth. I cannot be the only person who hears binaural beats in a frequency from the strings in the first verse. Everything about this song is so beautiful. The guitar, strings, and the lulaby at the end. Perfectly written. This song is for my unborn child i lost. I dream of what may have been as I've not had my own children and it was my only pregnancy. Soon i will be a step dad and she has night terrors. She loves me so much and i sing this to her all the time.
We never known in that age that songs like this arising every week or month on radio or tv, will become classical. Great years. A trip to the past. Too much quality.
A beautiful song. A man said he sang it to his son every night who was handicapped. Always imagined in his child's dreams he could do everything he wasn't able to in life.
So many memories connected to this song: my father's passing, my FIL passing just 2 years later, and how I'd "sing" this to my wife during our early months being married as she suffered from crippling anxiety that prevented her from turning her mind off, so she could sleep. Lots of emotions. A far cry away from their sound on "Operation: Mindcrime".
What a great reaction to one of the most memorable Prog bands of all time. How special it would be to hear your reaction to one of the most underated bands of the same era: Fates Warning, Ray Alder era.
What a great reaction! You're one of the very few reactors who noticed the snip from Brahms Lullaby on the double bass at the end of the song. Very well done Beth!
This song is epic. Love the snippet of soundbites from Hellraiser 2 during the solo. If you love string orchestras, try Neil Diamond's tune "Be". A powerful must hear.
There are quite a few great power ballads out there, but to me this may be the most beautiful with the best arrangement. And I’ve had some lucid dreams before; a very unique experience. What I remember is walking through whatever dream-land I was in, then stopping, with the realization I could actually control what I was doing. Suddenly I had a choice. So I made decisions and did what I wanted to in the dreams, which was unexpected and remarkable.
I've had the opportunity to see him with Queensrych many times before he left the band. He sins even better now than he did then, and there's a deep, full richness to his voice live that this studio recording just doesn't truly capture. Please check out this same song live from the early 2000s.
I saw the band live on the Promised Land tour in the 90s and they were amazing. Empire and Operation Mindcrime remain favourite albums. I also really like the newer slbums with Todd La Torre on vocals.
I saw that tour as well. Tate playing saxophone and the skit they did for the song Promised Land. Really wish they had recorded a show for DVD release.
That was my 6th time seeing them, and is my fave QR album and yes! They should have recorded it professionally (the whole show is here on Yt, but its like it was filmed with a Super 8 camera :p), it was a super amazing idea for a show, and it took a few minutes to realize the band was still on-stage for the track "Promised Land" for the Bar Scene, as they were the "House Band".
This song helped me years after my father died. Once I dreamed with him and gave him a big hug in that dream, after that I woke up feeling better, and this song represents just that feeling.
I just lost my dad on the 3rd December and have been waiting for him to visit me in a dream, so I can hug him. I’ve had a more general dream with him in it but not one where I get to just hug him, which I didn’t get to do before he died, I miss him so much. Best wishes to you
@karenglenn6707 I'm sorry for your loss, I know he will come to you when you're ready for that closure, the pain never goes away, but the happy moments and the memories he left you will become brighter than the sorrow. If I might suggest you another song, it's Don't you cry by Kamelot. That's another one that helped me and reminded me that he's always with me.

You made my day Beth!!! Queensryche has been one of my favorite bands for 35-40 years now. So happy that you got to "Silent Lucidity" 😃😃😃 ...But what was that you said close to the beginning? It reminded you of the BFG? There's only one BFG that I know of, but that would be way out of context. If you know, you know!
I loved when this video played in MTV. Years later, I couldn't remember the name of the song and band, but i wanted to hear it again so much. Then when UA-cam was created, i tried to find it many ways, but without knowing even the lyrics. Only during quarantine of COVID, 2020, I finally found it. 😅 More than 20 years looking for this song.
Wow look at Scott Rockinfields huge drum set! Be nice to hear someone understand the double neck guitar point that out The sonic booms are played alternsting beyween the left bass drum and the floor tom. He uses two snares a piciklo basket snare but here both had legs to get that big boom from verse 2 leading into the second chorus.
This is one of the best power ballads from the era .... IMO , the Holy Trinity is this , Mr Big - To be with you and Extreme - More than words . Hope you react to the latter 2 some time
I have lucid dreams from time to time usably when falling asleep but sometimes waking up. Mornings are the best. Like a Deja vu with my eyes open and closed at the same time. I cannot wait for the next chance to fall asleep.
Since you enjoyed the orchestration from Michael Kamen you really should check out "Who Wants to Live Forever?" by Queen. The orchestration literally brings me to tears every time I hear the song.
How beautiful. Until today. No one can sing like Geoff. Unmatched. Unreached. And all that in between. But you know what? There's another Guy! Ray Alder of Fates Warning. In my humble opinion the second best Vocalist of all time! How can you ignore this guy,Beth??? And all of the vocal teachers as well. So I would like to recommending Fares Warning - Wish. One of their slower tracks. And the closest song to Silent Lucidity ever written. I'm waiting... Still... Until forever? Idk...
I always liked this song but when my mother passed away a few years after it came out I couldn't listen to it for several years. I'm not sure why it upset me so much. I was young so it doesn't all make sense at the time. I am glad I can listen to it now without all the emotional baggage it once had for me. It is a great song.
I’ve been playing this song on the guitar for years it’s always a hit around the campfire. And it’s really magical mystical the way with the verse and chorus is in the key of G major but the instrumental guitar solo is an E flat.
My fav song by them. Its just an incredible song. Shout out to Supernatural for showing me this gem(though I already knew other songs by the band at the time)
The only song I really really like by them. It flows. Its lets you flow with it on a journey through the dream. Gives me chills. Goes good with an RPG when you're playing something like Elder Scrolls Online at night in real life and in the game and doing a quest out under a starry chill night in game.
empire is one of the greatest rock albums of all time. from beginning to end its a gem.
I will always rank in his prime Geoff Tate as one of the greatest rock vocalists of all time. And you can't overlook the amazing song writing of Chris DeGarmo! Great reaction as always!

Certainly one of the greats. Dickinson, Halford, Kiske, Jansen, Sammet, Dio, Matos, Lione, and others are in that class.
Every metal singer in the 80s that I know of wanted to be GT.
It wasn't just his range that separated him from the rest...it was also his phrasing.
ABSOLULETY. His phrasing sets him apart from the rest!
Silent Lucidity has a Pink Floyd feel to it. In fact, Michael Kamen did the orchestral arrangement. Just as he did with Pink Floyd.

That's a great one, i remember it from Highlander 😃👍🏼the original movie
How beautiful.
Until today.
No one can sing like Geoff.
Unmatched.
Unreached.
And all that in between.
But you know what?
There's another Guy!
Ray Alder of Fates Warning.
In my humble opinion the second best Vocalist of all time!
How can you ignore this guy,Beth???
And all of the vocal teachers as well.
So I would like to recommending Fares Warning - Wish.
One of their slower tracks.
And the closest song to Silent Lucidity ever written.
I'm waiting...
Still...
Until forever?
Idk...
I feel like my heart has know you for Millennia..that somber smile to the side
I love this song!
My favorite album of all time.
I always liked this song but when my mother passed away a few years after it came out I couldn't listen to it for several years. I'm not sure why it upset me so much. I was young so it doesn't all make sense at the time. I am glad I can listen to it now without all the emotional baggage it once had for me. It is a great song.
Another song with Michael Kamen is "Road to Madness". Check that out. Amazing!
I’ve been playing this song on the guitar for years it’s always a hit around the campfire. And it’s really magical mystical the way with the verse and chorus is in the key of G major but the instrumental guitar solo is an E flat.
I never noticed that thing you pointed out about the bass playing the "go to sleep" song at the end. Cool!
Mount Rushmore Of Metal.Dio,Halford,Dickinson,And Yes TATE !!
My fav song by them. Its just an incredible song. Shout out to Supernatural for showing me this gem(though I already knew other songs by the band at the time)
A Legend, Tate, Top Of The Food Chain Vocalist. Elite.
Chills every time!
The only song I really really like by them. It flows. Its lets you flow with it on a journey through the dream. Gives me chills. Goes good with an RPG when you're playing something like Elder Scrolls Online at night in real life and in the game and doing a quest out under a starry chill night in game.
