- Untucked use to be an extension of the main series that reallly did give us the full story regarding what was going on with the queens in the competition. But nowadays, it just doesn't feel the same.

The nail in the coffin with this was Law Roach interrupting Plane and Plasma. Not only was it a true interruption of drama that was being nipped in the bud before it could blossom, but it demonstrated that you can even have an amazing guest like Law Roach walking in and it still feels like a downgrade if we were about to get some reality TV gold.
We can hear Law Roach talk any time. We will only have this one opportunity for these queens to get into fights. They need to take priority.

Lady Gaga went backstage with her binder full of intelligent, helpful notes for the queens. She is a unique case and they’re trying to replicate it, but it just isn’t hitting like they want it to
omg and it comes off so preachy sometimes. not every celebrity is a great inspirational speaker
it feels like they just get celebs nowadays so people can just watch it more idk..
Plus most of those people do not have that cultural impact and on drag specifically so telling them how to do their jobs basically (when girls don't even get on the show without being good already) won't do much for them emotionally which in turn means it's not interesting for the viewers that aren't fans of the celebrity

They need to either bring back the two lounges so queens can shit talk each other and be heard walking in by the very person they're talking about or keep the guest judges OUT from joining untucked (some fringe cases ofc like lady gaga or law roach)

I mean just let the smoking area to be other place to shit-talk. It's not necessarily fabulous, but that pinch of fresh air could help scream at each other more. Also fully push the whole guest judge thing as a separate thing. I hope girls at least are getting paid for those meet-and-greets, cause nah-ah, dressing rooms should be fully limited for the staff. Cause some of those guest judges felt like straight girls on their birthday.
For me - season 7 had one of the best untucked in the franchise and that was literally the first cast to have open room untucked. But they also had much more freedom there, walking around, smoking and talking on the side-lines.

YES! im so tired of untucked becoming sanitised celebrity promos. thats a huge part of why i stopped watching it. its the same every time, it doesnt offer anything new or exciting thats worth the time spent watching it. very fed up with it

I've also noticed how every time a guest judge talks about how much they love Drag Race and how brave the queens are for just being themselves (like all of them do atp), there's always one queen like: "I can tell [guest judge] genuinely cares about drag and is not just saying this for clout", like who are the NOT genuine judges??😭
untucked used to add vital pieces of character development for the girls like the heathers vs boogers arc or violet’s vulnerable moments towards a winner arc. now it hardly makes a difference if u watch untucked or not

Yeah i thought it was a pun that the queens in untucked were delusional.
Another thing I miss about old school Untucked was when RuPaul would narrate the Untucked episodes and she would randomly pop up when something juicy would happen in an episode (i.e. Serena getting read and her saying everyone was “ghetto” and RuPaul popped up saying her now famous “Ouuu! No she better DON’T! ”)
It’s because now a days the fans will attack any drag queen . The reason why untucked season 2-6 (maybe 7) were great was because the drag race wasn’t so mainstream that queens can say whatever they want without getting death threats . Now , untucked is campfire session . Thank God Jane , MIB , and Kandy .
That’s one thing but the separate rooms make for interesting conversations behind queens back!😂

When I say I hate, I mean I hateeee the guest judges in untucked. I skipped it every time because you can tell it’s just PR for the guests and the queens generally don’t care. The tension being interrupted upset me every single timee.

This is me. Last season I watched in full is All Stars All Winners. Others after that I've just watched the Pit Stop and that gives me everything I need.
Thank God we had Plane to turn untucked into something worth watching

What's wrong with untucked is just what's wrong with this show in general and not a new problem: anything that becomes big, mainstream and rich cannot afford to be cast in a bad light. Imagine what this fan base of chronically online 16 year olds would say if they saw Raven fat shaming Mystique like how S2 was like. All the queens are terrified of looking even slightly """"problematic"""" even though messy drama and problematic queens are what made this show popular in the first place.

Another great example would be on season 4 where the Queens were in such a heated argument that they all ignored Ru's message and left Dita Von Teese sat alone on her own in the next room. The current seasons could never!
Things went down south the moment untucked left the whole interior illusions lounge theme . I know it was a sponsorship but there was something about that interior illusions decor that just made them spill and be real . Iconic times Urgh

They could be put in separate rooms and nothing would happen any more. The toxic fans are the real cause of this. The queens do not want to say the wrong thing any more in fear of being cancelled, bullied or sent death threats. These "drama" channels should make not make videos chastising the production and instead address the fan base. They blame it on every other thing but that is the major cause. Some queens just don't care what fans think because they have a thick skin but most care because it can affect their bookings now. The OG fans hardly did this and knew reality TV was not all real. Fans now a days take it so personally. It was better when fans appreciated the drama instead of acting like they are part of it.

I personally think they should save that segment for it's own episode for like youtube or WoW Presents if they are going to keep. Everyone wins, since they could have more time for old untucked drama or at least more time for the queens to talk to each other, and they can still show the celebrity chat with the queens since I'm sure some people like it.

Untucked lost it's charm. after season 12. Seasons 2-6 had the most iconic untucked for sure

Season 7's untucked was my favorite. The lighting was so dark but it really added to this unpolished, calm environment where it felt like we could relax with the queens. Now everything is bright and colorful to the point it just feels like an extra few minutes of the main episodes.

Untucked truly has never been the same since S11. Since season 12 onward it was pretty boring. Season 5-7 untucked were great. Season 9,10, and 11 were entertaining as well. Season 2-4 were very intense lmao.

I feel like it should be both, especially considering how awful it is to try and stream the show. When I first started getting into drag race/drag in general through becoming a fan of Trixie I wanted to watch her original season, and couldn’t. So instead I started searching for every clip I could find online, and ended up finding the untucked episodes and watched all of them. That was also how I found out that Trixie actually didn’t win season 7 😂 since I knew she was huge I figured she had won her original season, and had (incorrectly) thought that all seasons of all stars were all winners seasons 😂
I do enjoy the guest judges coming in, sometimes. When Kelsey Ballerini came in on season 16 it made me feel something because she’s a country music singer and it means a lot to me to hear support from people like her, as a southerner, and with parents who love country music. However, if there’s no actual impact of including the guest judges in the untucked, I find it dull and predictable. I wish the producers were able to understand nuance or just anything other than following tradition/habits that they made up very recently.

Plane Jane, Amanda, Mirage & Plasma gave us many iconic untucked moments this season!
Untucked S2-6 are legendary and continue to be the most memorable and most quotable ever - because of the conflict and raw emotions. All that changed in S7 - and Untucked has never been the same. As it now stands, Untucked seems to provide extra exposure for the celebrity guests, general kiki, and the sad reflections of the eliminated queen. There have been some notable exceptions, but in general, we've lost the cattiness and drama, which made those earlier seasons so compelling.
Unfortuantely most people know about Untucked becuase the drama, gossip and fights. And a lot of queens don't want to tarnish their reputation just to make good TV.
Which is honestly smart. 3/4ths of the audience clamoring for drama in the untucked episodes are not gonna show up at the meet n greets for queens labeled mean and rude lmao
Honestly, my favorite Untucked seasons are for season 7, 8, and 9. Those UA-cam Untucks are TRULY, TRULY Untucked, because the girls are actually relaxing, you get a better glimpse of their friendships and relationships, and being able to see the girls go outside to get their mind off things or listen to their song upped the stakes in the audience’s mind. And it was not produced at all, the queens were truly just hanging out backstage (you can tell by the fact that the queens are allowed to just have their own personal conversations, as opposed to have to speak to the whole group at once).
The drama was low, but the humanity was palpable. Also, what there was lacking in drama was HIGH in the comedy and funny moments.

I love seasons untuckeds that tell stories, season 11’s untucked tells a clearer story than the season itself and has really good fights and heartfelt moments to understand the queens better

I loved season 7 & 8s untucked because of how real they were. Queens taking full blown naps & smoking, talking shit as the safe queens only to shoosh each other and say "how did it go ladies?" When everyone else walks in. Like nothing will ever beat Kim and Chi Chi bonding over turkey neck and bone marrow.
I agree 100% with you. This show is like America's Next Top Model had a baby with iProject Runway. They're all millionaires. They don't have to do anything! More girl groups, comedy shows and we're ALWAYS WATCHING THEM do something with one of Rue's songs. The show has changed so much. We don't get any Werk Room gossip time like we used to. Now the show starts, Queens walk onto the stage/workroom, 2 minutes of friendly banter and then Rue walks out, they get their assignments and the next thing we know it's the runway, lip synch and done! You said it. Those star judges go back, kiss queen butt for a minute and the queens fall all over themselves sucking up to them and ask THE SAME QUESTIONS!! We don't get our old school UNTUCKED. No more Absolute Cockatiels 😅They have their fake arguments and SCENE🎬 Rue needs to go back to the old formula. She needs to find drag queens that ARE NOT WORLD FAMOUS. Rue needs to find nobodies and give THEM their chance for the Glass slipper. Rue seems bored. The producers make them do stupid stuff. They are predictable and boring. Rue's dreses are getting shorter and her wigs are ALWAYS THE SAME COLOR... WHITE! Michelle is reversing time and looks as good as the Queens!
Untucked was watchable ok season 16 due to Jane! And they should have kept Amanda around for way longer if only for the drama!

Untucked s2 is my favorite. S3 is very close. And 6 follows after that. I have s2 untucked on DVD. Ive watched it so many times. The drama on the early seasons was just so good. And most of the time it was about their outfits or what they did in the challenges. That's why i liked it.

for me one of the main problems of untucked nowadays is the queens. There used to be a time where they would talk about the competition, trash each other, fool around and talk about interesting topics, take as an example untucked season 7, 8, 9 and even 10. Now they just sit there and talk how the challenge and the judging went and that’s it and maybe address some drama just so they can all be “friends” again.🥴

As far as Drag Race main content goes, Pitstop is the only thing of constant quality.
Untucked in the early days was often better than the main show (IMO). Do you think they intentionally made it blander so that it stopped outshining (or at least competing so hard with) the show itself?
I think that the guest judge should have the OPTION to go back, making it more of a surprise for the girls and letting the viewer know who REALLY wants to go back and support the dolls. I still enjoy Untucked, but I watch everything I can get my hands on each season because I am a lifelong stan.
Even if something important happens, they just put it in the main show “Untucked exclusive” well it’s not exclusive anyone 😭😭😭
If they got rid of guest judges entering Untucked, I still think plenty of A and B list celebrities would still agree to be on the show.
