Thank you. I know we live in a great country, but every time i see one of your videos I'm reminded of it once more. And, I wish more people in this country would think of it that way.
Thank you. I am from Montrose but have been away for many years. I was happy to find a good video to see this amazing place from my youth. It was very sunny while you were filming, but the canyon changes colors as the day progresses and it's easier to see where it gets its name. Take care
The Black Canyon of the Gunnison is indeed a marvelous place..so glad you two were able to experience it. An interesting side story...about the mid-60's my college summer geology field camp took a side trip to the Black Canyon. Then some 30 years later, my wife and I were on vacation and visited the Black Canyon once again. While we were at the visitor's center, a bus load of bedraggled geology students was unloading and lo and behold!... They were that year's summer field camp from my old college! We really had some yarns to swap!
This is my old stomping grounds when I lived in Montrose as a FedEx driver where my route included Ouray and Telluride. . I hope you got a chance to go to those two places as well but I have to say I just posted this fantastic video on my Facebook page for others to enjoy as well. I used to come here quite often and spend hours perched on a ledge of some kind looking rather precarious but contemplating life in ways I could do nowhere else. What I like most about this is you captured shark oh what you assumed was going to be a ho-hum experience only to find out it was an experience of a lifetime. That’s the beauty of the Black Canyon. Which by the way you keep calling the Black Hills. I thought that was funny. Thank you for this. I also have a UA-cam page of my own where I include videos to amuse and hopefully inspire but yours is quite the gem and I’ll keep it forever. This Brought back great memories since I live in the Seattle area now.
Beautiful I really enjoyed the video and at 13:42 you made my heart skip a beat. It looked like you were stepping off the cliff. Please keep doing the videos I really enjoy them. Thank you and Abby for sharing your adventures with us.
I took the 50 from Salida to Montrose ,but I went across to pass during the night. With the high winds and snow, my nerves was fried so I ended up bedding down in Montrose. Telluride was stunning and on the 145 I got to see priest lake. I love the Grand Circle and I love Colorado.
I am glad you enjoyed part of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. We went through Montrose in 2007 and then headed east through Gunnison. We went over the pass and stopped at Cimmarron which is where the D&RGW came out of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison to go over the pass and down into Montrose. We went almost to the dam on that road. The railroad grade was flooded by the waters of the lake so that branch was abandoned. That section of the canyon is so narrow and deep that the sun did not reach the river is why it is called Black Canyon.
Thank you for sharing your travels and take us along. I was fortunate to visit Grand Canyon on the south-east side and Abby said it perfect, video-pics don’t show the magnificence. God bless you.
Our family traveled the Gunnison and Wolf Creek passes back in the early seventies. Things weren't so developed back then. Sections were one lane gravel roads with nothing but a drop on one side. Made things exciting when you came upon someone going the other direction :-)
Adam & Abby, God Bless you two and I pray that you both have a life long relationship and grow old and gray together and you will always have these videos of all you two have seen & done together to someday to look back on. You two are so right for each other and it really shows. And thanks for taking me along, otherwise I wouldn't have ever saw the Earths beauty and I'm glad it was with Mr. & Mrs. Booth.
You were in my part of the country, I have spent many great days fishing the Gunnison River above, in and below the park. The first drive down to the river was the "East Portal" road. The small roller dam is the diversion for the irrigation water tunnel you mentioned. The dam you can just see from below the barricades is the lowest dam of the three that make up the Blue Mesa complex. That dam retains the Crystal reservoir. The next dam above is the Marrow point reservoir and the big dam at the top of the complex is Blue mesa. All have excellent fishing and are very scenic in their own right. Thanks for giving a chamber of commerce plug to what I consider God's country.
Thanks so much for sharing. I agree it looks like a beautiful place to visit. I use to go to Colorado a few times a year but it was always in the winter back in the days when i was snow skiing. Hope you and Abby are having a great Thanksgiving weekend!!!
When I visited Black Canyon that visitor center was almost new. The pavement was pristine. That hike out to High Point had me breathing hard even though I was in good shape then. I'm not sure I could do it now. I was roughly 30 years old then, now I'm 62. The Grand Canyon has nothing on Black Canyon except sheer size.
Thanks for sharing. I didn't get to see all of the park when I was there. You are right, it is hard to capture it on your camera because of the contrast between the brights and darks. It is amazing what our eyes are able to adjust for.
Yes the Black Canyon is very unknown to most Americans. Also what is neat is the water in the Gunnison river ends up going to the Grand Canyon. Along with the Colorado, Yampa ,Eagle , White , Green , Dolores , and Little Snake rivers.
Hey abom, when your back in this part of the country. Email me I'll hook you up with a tour of Canyon De Cheii. It's a truly awesome tour of the place.

We have plans to be here in early June. Seeing the drive down to the dam was very helpful.
It’s a beautiful place to see! Make sure y’all do all the pull-offs so you can get the best views of the canyon 👍🏻

You are exploring in our backyard. That's great!
Thanks for taking us along on another one of your awesome adventures. Very cool indeed.

Awesome views.
Great video
Nice!! Amazing!! :-)
Cedar Point was amazing. Look up some videos on Angel's Landing in Zion.
I was there probably 40 years ago, maybe longer. most of what you see didn't exist then, time for another visit.
I'm sure the first settlers thought ,dang it.. now how are we supposed to get across that
abby is so cool
Gotta love the Abom High Anxiety, but the view is worth it right?
Did you go to Bryce Canyon National Park too? If not you missed a nice park with lots of colors!
We didn’t go there.... yet. Lots of great places on our list.
When did you visit this beautiful park ?
This was late August of 2020.
Are those Out Looks or "Look Out!"
Out looks in the USA but look outs anywhere else on the globe.

It's supposed to be a secret Adam! Don't tell everybody!
What month where you there?
You aren't used to high places coming from Florida, because you don't have any heights there😱
when have you been there?
Did you take your camper out there or did you fly that area?
What time of year did you go? We’re looking at going in mid September and hoping for it not to be too crowded
We were there in August, seemed to be a great time to visit. I bet September would be a little cooler as well.
Adam, don't film and walk at the same time. A girl walked over a cliff near here last summer while looking through her phone.
I think I peed a little
