With concrete, the more water you add, the weaker the final product becomes. This obviously does not require great strength, but you also don't want it to crack. If you mix the concrete in a 5 gallon bucket, for 10-15 minutes, you will end up with a creamier consistency. Lastly, concrete needs to be moist cured for a week as it takes 30 days for concrete to become fully cured The easiest way to do it would be to wet it after you pop it out of the mold (awesome trick btw), then wrap it in plastic wrap, or something like that, for a week, or at least a couple days for a project like this. Great video and I love the demolding trick. Cheers!
Thank you for the tip about the tiki fuel! I've looked at a few different diy fire bowls and they all say to use the canned heat. I was very frustrated because I can't even SEE a flame on them, thought I was doing something wrong or got duds. Two 2-packs later (and about $15) I found your video. Awesome, THANKS!
Tiki torch fuel is a good point. Tiki torches can be super cheap, I get them just for the cans, because they work great, too, and they hold more fuel...If I’m lazy, then any planter works. Some people add them to the center of larger pots, with low plants around the edges, just don’t add them to any with dirt that has peat moss in it, it’s very flammable. Lots of potting soil does have peat moss.
this is awesome!! watched ran around my home for items, neibours to get cement. now to buy or borrow some cooking spray!!! taking photos as i go along. AND it doubles as a flower POT! double awesome!!!
I don't know what "tiki fuel" actually is. Great video. You can use a palm sander (without paper) to vibrate against the bowl to get rid of the bubbles and make for a glassier outcome.
thanks I just bought a concrete fire pit for my rear deck and was wondering what to burn in it. that is beautiful and it will keep the skeeters at bay.
Hi Mike, I built a bowl and your instructions were great. I had good luck with baby oil on the bowls. I have read that river stones or glass beads can blow up, so now I am nervous to use them. Does mortar give you a smoother finish rather then quick cement? How to you end the flame when you are done? Do you have to disassemble the stones and put the lid on the can? Thanks, Sherri
A jellified alcohol solution also does a great job because once the vapors start to burn when the alcohol heats up, and the fire spreads out a bit more :)
Hey Mike, I was wondering would you be able to purposely make a concrete mix with lots of bubbles then use epoxy to fill them in once the concrete has dried? I think that'd look pretty dope, you could get a marbling effect from it. PS cool videos - definitely trying some of these out when I get some better tools.
This was a great tutorial!!!!! Very well explained. I will be making several of these. I only have 1 question. Do I need to get particular stones. I did hear you say you just used dollar store stones, but will they hold up to the heat??? Just wondering. Thanks so much for sharing!!!!!
it was NOT a great tutorial. He left out a bunch of stuff . The curing of the concrete in particular. This bowl he made will crack eventually. Too much water and didn't let it cure in water
2. How do you put out the fire safely? Just cover it with some pot/saucepan cover for couple of minutes. It will prevent of accessing fresh air (with oxygen) and burning will stop.
Love it. I don't have an air compressor. How should I remove without causing a problem. Also, fill canister with tiki torch fluid?? After the original fluid is gone? Didn't understand.... Thank you
I've used the canned compressed "duster" air for cleaning keyboards and it's worked. You just take out the wick and use a funnel to fill the container with traditional tiki torch fluid for a larger flame
Love this. Thanks so much! Not sure I understand where to put the tiki fuel. Are you saying to substitute tiki fuel for the fuel in the canister or add tike fuel to it? Sorry, newbie here.
you are not curing the concrete , after removing bowl, it's a good idea to soak in tub of water for 3-7 days. Makes it MUCH stronger in the long run. Also, you are adding too much water to mix.
When you put the sterno in the the 🔥 pit, are you mixing the tiki fuel equal parts or are you using just tiki fuel after the ethanol chafing runs out bc obviously the chafing fuel is nearly invisible?
the middle bowl will be the hardest, use a flat head screw driver and peel it back. it will come right off. also use non stick before doing the project and the bottom should come right out when you flip it over. ( currently doing the project) lol

Can't trust these fakes! Haha, no problem glad I could help
What is a tiki fuel?

I made 3 so far!!!! I Absolutely LOVE the way they came out ❤️ Thanks for the tutorial!!!!
It’s looks so beautiful! And simple ! Thank you so much for your tutorial ! Love it🎉❤
you just got a new subscriber. all the detail shows that you put thought into your videos.
Thanks a lot Mark. I appreciate it
You could also mix in some dye in to the concrete mix for a different color after drying.
Yeah, that's be really cool
Great job. You can buy empty canisters on Amazon. I'm making this for my patio. Family coming for family reunion in August. Thanks!!
this is awesome!! watched ran around my home for items, neibours to get cement. now to buy or borrow some cooking spray!!! taking photos as i go along. AND it doubles as a flower POT! double awesome!!!
just made a concrete water fountain and was looking for a new project. this is really cool. have extra concrete.....got to do it! I'm subscribing!
+cakelady Dee jones That's awesome! Go for it. I have a small fountain pump I've been wanting to use for a concrete fountain too!
hi when your making your videos can you please lower the background music down
so we can hear you better
thanks by the way love the fire pit ;-))
And stop shaking/bouncing, please.

I had the gel fuel cans at first, but it gets VERY expensive. So now I buy 91% alcohol and get a beautiful larger flame. Love the video!
Hi do you just put the alcohol in the can
Wow that's so beautiful, you are so creative, 🙏
thanks I just bought a concrete fire pit for my rear deck and was wondering what to burn in it. that is beautiful and it will keep the skeeters at bay.
+gaalford Awesome! Glad I can help.
That's a neat trick with the air compressor!
Yeah, the first time I tried it I was so surprised, it just popped right out!
+Modern Builds
I just literally saw most of your vids this afternoon. Had to sub. Haha! Keep 'em coming.
No doubt, thanks!

Great questions… wish someone would answer them.
A jellified alcohol solution also does a great job because once the vapors start to burn when the alcohol heats up, and the fire spreads out a bit more :)
Good tip! Thanks man
How do you add the tiki fuel to the gel pack one?
Wow super good idea, thank you so much!🥰🥰🥰
Looks great..do the rocks get hot with the flame canisters? I heard some rocks can explode if heated?
Awesome work, thanks for sharing!
+Kyle Gordy right on, thanks Kyle

Hey, this actually seems to be a really good. I'll do one in the spring and try the epoxy trick.
Did you add the Tiki fuel with the gell fuel or just use an old empty can ?
Yes please clarify
Yes i want kno also
Thxxx for the video, but can i made the gel fire canister by meself ? and how plllz ?
That last tip was very helpful. The tiki torch liquid .. I don't like a low blue flame. I see it in other videos & it's barely noticeable
I keep reading on these DIY tutorials that river rock can explode when exposed to high heat, so wouldn't it be best to use a heatproof rock?
Neat idea! Also thank you for the advice on the flame height.
Due to the music I couldn't hear your direction about the "low blue flame" did you say to use something else? please clarify..
essentially kerosene. This means you can no longer use this indoors!
Genius! Thanks Montgomery
This looks great! thanks for the tip at the end about the fuel. keeping it real definitely got you a new subscriber!
+Shala Perla Awesome! Thanks
Beautiful project man!
+krisicreativa Thanks a lot!
Really great tutorial thanks,
Dutch the music though it is distracting from what you are saying…. Lovely Thankyou
Thanks Mike, Great build !!!!
+Gil Solomon thanks!
This is SOOO cool!
Great idea, great video !!
Thanks!
im definitely going to try this....great & easy tutorial
That's awesome!! Let me know how it goes!
So if using the gel fuel (sternos), do you have to disassemble (remove stones /netting) every time to replace the fuel pack?
I have same question 😦
Thank you 🖐️🌷
New fan! Will try to make this! Love this video!!!
That's awesome man! good luck, let me know how it goes
He never did it.
Great job.
+claudio ribeiro Thanks
+Modern Builds cool man. what the purpose is only designer?
Hi my name is Aisha I am from Botswana my question is I can see you are only using cement for the fire bowl so will it not cracked?
Thank you
Can I use the citronella oil and it be like 2 birds/1 stone? Fire pit and bug repellent?
This was a great idea.
I wish you’d tackle something for kids, like a swing set or an indoor monkey bar type of thing.
This was a great tutorial!!!!! Very well explained. I will be making several of these. I only have 1 question. Do I need to get particular stones. I did hear you say you just used dollar store stones, but will they hold up to the heat??? Just wondering. Thanks so much for sharing!!!!!

Does anyone know what type of paint you could use if you wanted to add some color to them?
Can I do this on a larger scale! Like a fire up for my backyard?
That's pretty sweet. Put a little citronella in there and it's good to go.
+Kaged Creations yep!
Two questions: 1. Do you need a specific type of concrete mix? 2. How do you put out the fire safely?
2. How do you put out the fire safely?
Just cover it with some pot/saucepan cover for couple of minutes. It will prevent of accessing fresh air (with oxygen) and burning will stop.
brush the plastic bowls with any cheap motor oil before pouring the cement mix so it doesnt stick to the bowls
I LOVE UR IDEA !!!❤❤❤❤😎Thank you
I'm glad you like it! Thanks!
Oh...My bad!!!!! I found my answer in the comments below. Thanks again, from a new subscriber!
Nice!!
Great idea. I'm going to make one with tiki oil.
Thank you! Good luck!!
Can you make s’mores on this with that kind of fuel?
Hey bud, could you pass me those rocks in that bowl?...... AHHHHHHHHHHHH
Love it. I don't have an air compressor. How should I remove without causing a problem. Also, fill canister with tiki torch fluid?? After the original fluid is gone? Didn't understand....
Thank you

Thank you so very much!!! So kind of you to get back so soon. I'm looking forward to making a few for our summer evenings. :)
Can this be used with briquettes? Want to make s’mores.
Love this. Thanks so much! Not sure I understand where to put the tiki fuel. Are you saying to substitute tiki fuel for the fuel in the canister or add tike fuel to it? Sorry, newbie here.
I want to do some of theses things for presents for family for Christmas. Is that a good idea?
yeah, that's an awesome idea!
Awesome.
Thanks!!
+Modern Builds I didn't even know Dollar Tree carried those sterno came. Awesome! Would you recommend using Quikrete rather than grout?
Definitely yes. Use quikrete
I love you 😍 vids
Hermoso!! 😀
Any idea what would work instead of the canned fuel? seem to have issues getting this in the UK.Thanks
How do I make this in a larger scale?
Are these gel cans dangerous while being used this way in the concrete firepit? can they explode??
Could I just use a planter instead of making my own concrete bowl?
Of course and that's what I will do. Lots to choose from at say Home Depot, etc. if you don't already have something.
Thanks i love it 😍
are those rocks/stones gonna do ok with the heat? i just worry it might explode
Hi - do you add the tiki fuel in with the gel or do you remove the gel and replace with tiki fuel?
so can this fire bowl stay outdoors? (even in rain)
Hey i made this but the black rocks started to pop and explode. Why is that send what type of rock did you use?
how do you made Tha finish look in cement??? do u use any other product
nope, it's just the yellow quikrete bag
What's to stop you from just pouring ETH over the rocks and lighting that
soooo cool!
+Karen S. Thanks!
you are not curing the concrete , after removing bowl, it's a good idea to soak in tub of water for 3-7 days. Makes it MUCH stronger in the long run. Also, you are adding too much water to mix.
hi really nice way of making earthen lamps, where will i get the lamps from?
Awesome video when can we expect about cool DIY video?
When you put the sterno in the the 🔥 pit, are you mixing the tiki fuel equal parts or are you using just tiki fuel after the ethanol chafing runs out bc obviously the chafing fuel is nearly invisible?
muito bom,parabéns.
okay so the gel pack might not work for this idea, but could I make an actual firepit out of concrete or is that dangerous?
Just buy a bowl man. I just wanted to know how to set up the inside. It's very nice. Thank you.
Great video, what is the concrete to water ratio?
How do you get the inner bowl out if you don’t have an air compressor?
Isn't water problem for the material and did you cover with anythink?
Fantástico.
Question? If you do not have an air compressor, how else can you get the two bowls apart?
the middle bowl will be the hardest, use a flat head screw driver and peel it back. it will come right off. also use non stick before doing the project and the bottom should come right out when you flip it over. ( currently doing the project) lol
Could you color the cement somehow so that it has like a vein of colour through it?
Does the concrete bowl itself get hot? If it was to be set on top of a glass table do you think it would shatter the glass?
The bowl hasn't ever gotten hot on me. All the heat really come from the top, so I don't think there'd be an issue
