- 2024 Appalachian Wilderness Experience trip to Colorado, living out of our rigs for 5 days, camping and wheelin the whole time! Over 450 miles of Colorado dirt roads hanging out with a great group of people. Break downs, needing my 42’s, tuning for high altitude! Great views!
Looks like fun. 👍
@@TawDrago it was a great time!
From crawling to overlanding I like this. Ok still some crawling.
@@sublime929 it was a new thing for me, living out of the truck. We made it through and had a great time!
Great video Caleb looks like alot of fun and that is 1 awesome truck.
@@johnnykirkland611 thank you sir, it’s definitely fun to drive. And I’m loving the adventures
I used to take an 85 Toyota PU up on those trails along the Alpine Loop, Imogene being the highest elevation. I had problems with vapor locking and found that adding a little ATF to the gas, wrapping fuel lines with foil where they get close to heat sources, and leaving the gas cap loose seemed to help. Even with all that, I couldn't get to the top of Imogene. The alcohol in modern gas makes it even worse. Poke some holes in the cap of a water bottle and use creek water to shower cool parts. Have fun.
@@CP-pp3dr it was definitely a challenge, I ended up changing the tune on my Holley terminator efi twice to get it to be happy. Really enjoyed the views and the group that I wheeled with. I can’t Imagine trying to get the old school carb setups to work at the high altitude.
Great video. Figuring out what to pack for camping and getting it on/in your vehicle definitely has it’s challenges. I am still trying to dial in my camping setup, but I have a 6’4” bed and a crew cab so a lot more space than with your setup. Kudos to getting what you needed for camping on your rig. Hopefully I will get out your direction sometime and run some trails (probably next year).
@@redbeastadventures thanks! it took some thought on getting exactly what I may or may not need…then getting it all to stay on the truck while wheelin everyday. I wish I had some more space, but still love my truck. I’ll be better prepared next time!
@@85Crawler It is definitely a process of trial and error getting the camping gear dialed in for your needs.
Hey neighbor 👋
@@johnnykirkland611 hey buddy! Hope you like the video
I've watched most of your videos, anything you would change now that it's been built for awhile now? Wheelbase? Link length? More power?!
@@monette44 great question, working on a few changes right now. First of all a 32 gallon fuel tank is going in place of the 20 gallon tank for more range, I’m going to all analogue gauges instead of a digital dash..for more reliability. Swapping to 5.38 gears instead of the 4.88’s that gives me the low end crawling torque and control with no problems on the highway because I have the 4l80 transmission with the overdrive. Lastly…I’m sticking with the 42’s they just work!
@@85Crawler Can't loose on 42s😎
@@85Crawler I have a 31 gallon tank, but my truck can get pretty thirsty with the 6.4L Hemi. I can get 15 mpg on the highway but not so much on the trails.
@@redbeastadventures I think the 30 gallon tank or better is a really good size! Especially on the long trips, those hemi’s get thirsty for Shure.
