Hello everyone and welcome to another reading recommendations video! Today, I'm recommending you 10 books with amazing worldbuilding! These are mostly speculative books (fantasy, sci-fi and magical realism) with wonderful worldbuilding and imagery. In my opinion, great worldbuilding goes hand-in-hand with great prose, imagery and figurative language. For me, I don't want information overload; what I like is atmospheric writing that feels real and believable and unique.
Hope that you're able to get some good book recommendations out of this list! Hopefully you find some books with amazing worldbuilding that you love as well. Hope you enjoy the video and take care 💛

I feel like publishers don't need to do anything more in terms of promotional work than just ask you to talk about a book you have enjoyed. I have added so many books to my TBR just because of your infectious enthusiasm.

I must give that last book of more chance, sounds much more interesting after you've described it! Thank you! I'm reading The Daevabad Trilogy right now and it's world building is really unique and interesting. Highly recommend! Definitely want to read The Name of the Wind. It is intimidating, but the pay-off is more than worth it! I read it from Christy's recommendation as well. The amount of attention to detail that went into this book really does make it feel like like it truly happened in English history, and although the style is quite academic it's never boring. For me everything about it is amazing, 5/5.

I think the word "world-building" has too broad a definition. Imagery, atmosphere, and mood are very different from scale, geography, and politics.
The former is very much tied to emotional depth and is at its core elliptical and open to interpretation. The latter is analytical and definitive, quantifying measurements and names in very technical language.
They are more so two opposing methods that conflict with one another so I don't see the value in combing them into a single group.

I've really enjoyed listening to your thoughts and book recommendations lately. I share enthusiasm for some of your favourite books. If you are interested in books that create detailed and immersive worlds, I recommend one that no one talks about anymore. Shardik by Richard Adams of Watership Down fame.
Shardik is a fantasy novel about a remote community in the Beklan Empire that has historically worshipped a bear god and what happens when a giant bear that embodies their conceptions of their god is driven by a forest fire to their island.
Shardik is one of my favourite novels. The world building in this book is amazing and the writing is beautiful. And the plot is designed to make you think deeply about the nature of religious belief, material success and other topics. Here is a link. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shardik
