@@amperformance7998 Tesla can use non Tesla networks so it isn't an issue. Ev6 is more expensive, worse range, smaller and should really be compared to a Model 3 but then the model 3 is just better. I'm sure there's reasons to take the EV6 instead but for most people the Model Y is better and it shows in sales figures.

    • @amperformance7998
      @amperformance7998 Рік тому +8

@@lachlanB323 EV6 is cheaper in my country, and many other places. It also drives better, handles better, steers better, brakes better, is quicker, and engages the driver rather than isolate them. All the things that make a "performance" car. On top of that, the EV6 has a better ride, greater refinement, is quieter, charges faster, the warranty is much longer, the real-world range difference is tiny, the EV6 doesn't require thousand of dollars in accessories to compensate for basic missing equipment, and it doesn't look like a week-dead beached whale.
Compared to the 3, all the above stuff holds true (with the exception of being quicker as I believe the M3P claims a slightly shorter 0-100 time). But you can then add that the EV6 has a much bigger passenger cabin and far more practical cargo space.
The reality is that Teslas are impressive as tech pieces, and if a person chooses their car the same way they choose their phone, then the Tesla may be for them. But the EV6 is a better car.
To address the big difference in sales numbers. Kia doesn't build very many EV6s, but they sell every one they make. Kia Australia claims they could double or triple their EV6 sales if they could get stock. Low production keeps the EV6 rare, unique, and interesting. While Teslas are becoming common, bland, and boring. The car of the middle-manager.

Nice review. I only test drove a 1 year old Tesla MY but really did not like the whole experience especially the suspension but also the interior just didn't cut it for me. Looked like they built an office and put wheels on it. The Kia was an instant hit for me. Thought I would get the heavily discounted GT but decided I'd rather have the extra 50 miles of range and more comfortable seats of the GT-line. Turns out it really rips in Sport mode. You did mention almost all the main differences but one. Not only does the Kia have drive mode choices at your fingertips but also many options for regen braking right in the paddle shifters again right at your fingertips. 0 through 4 then also various auto regen modes depending on which level you were in when you hold down the right paddle to choose auto. It kind of acts like adaptive cruise control but for city driving. If you hold the left paddle it also acts like a brake similar to being in level 4 one pedal. Its really a game changer for me and I don't think I would buy an EV without that feature now. Completely agree though with the limitations of the GT which is why I am happy with my GT-line.

I have a GT and the low range figure is caused by the strange way the range test is done in the US. In the UK and the rest of the world we quote different figures from WTLP , i.e. 264 miles - I've done about 1,200 miles so far and I get 250 / 290 miles range in actual driving. If you drive at sensible speed you get drastically more range, AND you get to keep your license. Also the GT has a suspension designed to go around corners, and you don't get a CRICK in your neck looking to the side of the steering wheel at a tablet, which is the most ridiculous design I've ever seen.... the GT has a perfect heads up display of course.... the space under the gear selector is perfect for my wife's handbag.... first car to solve that issue lol.

Nice comparison - enjoyed the honesty.
The charging rate for the EV6 isn’t a misprint. The 800v architecture allows much higher charging rate (less heat) - 10-80% in 18 mins.
Bear in mind that the charging network in other countries may be significantly better than the US, climate is different, and journeys are different lengths.
The EPA range quoted in the US (206) is odd. It’s advertised up to 265 in the U.K. for example, and most drivers seem to get well over the EPA number. :)
Seems like the cars have fundamentally different aims. The Kia is a driver’s car - it even has the flappy paddles for driver engagement. :)

Your humor is what makes this channel stand out! I could find details, comparisons, dry facts at other Tubers. But your personality combined with the valuable information is a unique mix. Here is one example of what I mean:
    19:34 “Looks like a Ferrari 458…”
19:39 “It has an exotic look..”
I suspect that while filming, you weren’t sure if the Ferrari comment would make it to the final edit, so decided to end that thought with the “exotic look” version of a sentence. Then ended up using both, because the Ferrari comment was just too funny and genuine to be left out. When you film yourself, your thoughts and comments just flow out of your mouth without thinking twice (like GoPro is garbage)
I can only imagine how many jokes you make while filming, that never makes it the final product so we can’t see it because they are inappropriate or would hurt somebody’s fragile feelings. My guess is that a 10-minute video you end up posting makes you produce 25 minutes worth of footage with jokes that never makes it to the video that gets posted.

In Australia, the EV6 is $1000 cheaper than the Model Y, and that's without advanced autopilot or FSD, and before needing to spend thousands on Tesla accessories to compensate for basic features missing in the Y. Neither car qualifies for any incentives.
The Tesla Supercharger network really isn't any better (at least in my region) than other networks.
You didn't mention the difference in warranty. If you have to finance your purchase (as most people do) for a fairly standard 5 years, the Kia at 7 years will still be under warranty while the Tesla at 4 years may leave you having to pay both for Tesla's abyssmal repair costs AND the car payment.
The EV6 does have a Camp Mode, called Utility Mode, that can also serve as a makeshift Dog Mode. In addition, the EV6 also has V2L allowing you to power high-draw appliances while camping. Or even your house in the event of a power outage.
Using the WLTP standard, claimed range difference is only about 55 miles, and in a recent Wheels Magazine test, with both cars being driven together in a moderately performance car fashion, the EV6 got much closer to its claimed range, leaving the real world difference at about 50km or 30 miles, not the 100 or so miles you criticise so much.
Tesla fans love to go on about how great OTA updates are, the idea that your car will constantly get better with every update. But real world experience is more of a mixed bag. I have lots of devices (phones, tablets, computers, TV, consoles, etc) that get OTA updates and it is rare that an update is an improvement. More likely is I lose features I used to use, or they become more complicated. Simple operations become tied to a cloud service, requiring an account and maybe a subscription. And occasionally the update is more that the hardware can handle, leaving you with a bricked device. Tesla changes its hardware so often, it is only a matter of time before these updates cause problems. Then there are security issues with a connected car, as expressed in the recent problems of Tesla employees sharing photos and videos taken without permission from customers' cars. OTA updates and connected services may add some small convenience, but they also add reliability, security, and privacy concerns.
The Model Y may have more cargo space (but the difference isn't as big as Tesla claims as Tesla uses a different measurement standard), but it is not because of better engineering or packaging. It is because the Tesla is a physically bigger car. It is longer, taller, and wider, with longer overhangs. Despite the Model Y's size advantage, the EV6 still manages to be equivalent (or better) in terms of passenger space, while still providing ample cargo space, in a more compact, and more stylish, body.
But the EV6's big advantage comes in driving the car. Both are wickedly quick in a straight line, but one-trick acceleration is not what makes a great performance car. Take them both onto a mountain road with real-world worn pavement and difference in their chassis stands out. Quoting that Wheels comparison, "The Model Y may be riding on a new (comfort) chassis tune, but mid-corner bumps still send the body bucking and corkscrewing well below the posted speed limit." "Super sharp steering...makes the Model Y feel nervous and unsettled. The steering is prone to rack-rattle and there's a dead spot on centre." "A sighting run in the EV6 GT had me questioning if the road was as treacherous as I'd remembered, such was the Kia's composure...(it) was magic on our back-to-back road. It's steering is calmer and more consistently weighted. Useful information about the surface and grip make its way through the wheel." "Where the Model Y is rolling, yawing, and all at sea, the EV6 GT is encouraging you to start powering out of bends...It leaves the Model Y Performance floundering in its rear-view mirror." "With the Model Y Performance, Tesla has made a very fast and technology-packed car. Kia, meanwhile, has made a true performance car out of the EV6."

I forgot to add that the reviewer commented on Kia's blind spot monitor. Then mentioned that the Tesla has a similar feature following the update. This is true, however the Kia's implementation is far better. The Tesla displays your blind spot low on the centre screen, directing your gaze in exactly the wrong place for lane changes/parking.
The Kia displays the blind spot view on the instrument panel, high and near the driver's line of site. Meaning you can see the display in your peripheral while checking your mirrors and blind spot (where a driver should be looking while changing lanes/parking). The EV6 also complements the blind spot monitor with visible warning icons in the mirror, in the instrument panel, and in the HUD. All places where a driver should be looking while driving, not a centre screen.

If it's cheaper in your country, and it should be since they skimped on the batteries, and IF your charge stations are all equal as you say, get the KIA. I find it hard to believe or that there are nearly as many chargers as Tesla. WLTP is always way off from every video I have ever seen them compare and the EPA rating is very close so I think it's going to be 100 miles less as he says. Just say you like the way it looks better or you think you will notice a few tenths of a second 0-60 difference. In the end, it's still a KIA for the price of a Tesla, or more in the US. And does it have any kind of autopilot? You don't have to have FSD to have the best lane keeping and adaptive cruise control and that is free on the Tesla.

    • @amperformance7998
      @amperformance7998 Рік тому +3

@@EVMANVSGAS you may find it hard to believe because in this case reality goes against your assumptions, but it is true that within my region there are far more non-Tesla charging options. My wife regularly makes a trip to visit family in our EV6 that would be impossible for a Tesla owner if they relied on Superchargers. That is not to say this is the case everywhere, and I never claimed it was. I simply pointed out that the assumption you make, that Tesla's network is always better, is simply not true. I also found it telling that you doubted my claim, and assumed that you know better what sort of charging options exist in my area, without even knowing where that area is!
Next, I too, have heard that EPA range tends to be more accurate than WLTP. But if you had read what I wrote, you would have noticed that I cited a real world test in which both cars were driven together at the same time, on the same roads, in the same manner, and their result showed a difference in range of only about 30mi, not 100. In addition, a recent test I saw reported on The Electric Viking channel had the EV6 GT match its WLTP range, which is significantly more than its EPA rating. Both real-world tests suggest the difference in range is not as significant as the video suggests. My own experience with an EV6 suggests it is entirely capable of achieving its WLTP claim.
Yes, in Australia the EV6 does have autopilot capabilities that are broadly equivalent to Tesla's standard Autopilot. However, other markets, like the US, get a more advanced version of Kia's system that is closer to Tesla's Advanced Autopilot (which I believe is an extra cost, eroding the Model Y's price advantage).
I am curious for you to explain what you mean by "they skimped on the batteries." While it is still early on the platform, so far there haven't been any broad quality issues, the batteries are holding up well, have more capacity than the MYP battery of similar chemistry, charge faster, and utilise a modular construction that allows for cheaper and easier servicing and replacement.
In the end, it is still a Kia for the price of Tesla. And that's only a problem if you're the sort of person who cares more about the badge than the car.

@@FireballYT no no. Pre-condition for a paid charging. In the Tesla if you tell it you’re going to a rapid charger it starts pre-conditioning the battery for that task. You can’t do that in an EV6.
And there are still a lot of petty issues coming out of the EV6, even today. And some of them were not so petty. Causing the car to stop mid trip and not turn on.
As recent as 5 days ago there was a recall of EV6’s up to the 2024 model due to a fault which prevents the battery from charging.
Funnily enough this was a software issue. And kia boasts that the Kia EV6 has over the air updates and could have fixed it that way but hasn’t. Meanwhile teslas receive updates every couple of weeks, if not more.
Another problem with the 2024 Kia earlier in the year was a fault with the ICCU which causes damage to the unit and stops the 12V battery from charging that was announced in a recall. Which, sadly, isn’t the first time they’ve recalled cars for faults with the ICCU. This fault can cause the car to shut off unexpectedly even while driving. And not turn back on.
Don’t get me wrong. They’re getting better. The rate of problems are slowing and it’s a huge learning curve for Kia. But I am not naive enough to think that kia can catch to teslas 12 years of EV design experience in a single car, first time. It’s going to take them years. Be prepared.

So officially Tesla has more recalls than any other car by some 1,200%. But if you look at the details it says it’s if those recalls are things like “adding Disney plus to infotainment system”.
So maybe Kia is steering away from that. Infact I can only see a record of one OTA on Kia’s website to allow the car to add chargers as a waypoint in their onboard navigation.
Outside of BYD, Kia has the best competitor to Tesla. But I wouldn’t say it up there yet.

I personally purchased the EV6 GT-Line AWD because of the range difference. I've only had it for a month. Given that I have a charger at home, I don't understand range anxiety. Took a trip from South Carolina to Virginia and back, only uncomfortable moment was making sure I got to the free EA charger. There were plenty of other chargers that could have been used in between on the major highway.

Totally dropped my 2023 Ioniq 5 (American Limited equivalent) for not only service issues but the really big issue, that is our long distance road runner "Beep - Beep", dropped it like a hot potato and took delivery of our Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD white on white (love the white on white) could not be more pleased last 4000KM road trip was easy squeezy, just love the Tesla Supercharger network for reliable very fast charging, and just crazy high speed efficiency another thing that Tesla outperforms the EV6 GT. The Ioniq 5 is still a totally awesome ride though, will be missed till they come out with a NACS adaptor (and make it work better at 400 volt fast DC charging on the Tesla Version 2 & 3's) and open it up to Tesla Supercharging!

Not accurate, I helped a friend wire his home charger and we did a speed run right after. Both my EV6 GT and his Model YP were at 80%, I pulled on his every run of the 7. And we know at top speed, 161 > 155. Both are no comparison to my Plaid S but the GT is more nimble in the hills too.

Weve owned four (yes four) Model Ys. Test drove a used EV6 GT on a whim today and it melted my face, fixing all the things that drive us insane about the Tesla. Firmer, more supportive seats, WAY better suspension, operable sunroof, actual auto wipers, useful gauge cluster and HUD, Android Auto, has V2L, and doesn't look like an overinflated pool toy. The fact that Tesla still isnt providing V2L is shameful and ridiculous. As a second enthusiast vehicle, seems pretty unbeatable to me.
