    Though Maurice LaMarche did portray the live action Inspector Gadget on the _Super Show,_ the voice of Inspector Gadget in the original DIC cartoon was not LaMarche, but Don Adams, who also played Maxwell Smart on _Get Smart._ However, in later iterations of _Inspector Gadget,_ LaMarche did take over the role as the main character, replacing the, by then deceased, Don Adams.

    • @mightyfilm
      @mightyfilm Рік тому +8

      If you want to get REALLY technical, Maurice joined the Inspector Gadget cartoon second season, mostly as various MAD Agents and Chief Quimby, but also did substitute loop dialogue for Adams, as well as voicing some of Gadget's ancestors during a weird 3-part time travel plot line. He would do more loop dialogue for the 90's Inspector Gadget Saves Christmas special before becoming the main voice for a couple DTV movies and Gadget and the Gadgetinis.

    • @JohnDoe-wq5eu
      @JohnDoe-wq5eu Рік тому +4

      Oh thank goodness for a minute there I thought I was having a pretty serious Mandela effect moment where I remember things completely different than how they actually were. And I definitely remember Don Adams being Inspector gadget, and I remember that terrible get smarter show from the 90s as well. That was awful. But yeah, I actually didn’t know about Maurice LaMarche. That’s not surprising considering his prevalence in the voice work landscape at the time, but it is surprising just how much he really was in practically everything if not literally everything.

    • @mightyfilm
      @mightyfilm Рік тому +3

      @@JohnDoe-wq5eu It was pretty early in Maurice's career, like 1985 when season 2 aired. That was when the show's voice acting duties moved from Canada to the US (Don Adams and Frank Welker recorded their lines in California and were dubbed in for season 1).

    • @JohnDoe-wq5eu
      @JohnDoe-wq5eu Рік тому +1

      I had no idea they'd redubbed season one that's crazy. Then again the more I learn the more I remember things differently or realize I saw alternate versions of things or original versions or something different and honestly voice stuff is always weirdly complicated. I've been absolutely amazed finding out how much of the ocean dub team were involved with all sorts of stuff when I was a kid or younger anyway.
      One of the most mind-blowing things I remember as a teen was hearing a radio interview with the three main cast members of animaniacs that was incredible.
      It was so surreal hearing people I'd heard for the better part of a decade speaking with thier regular voices.

    • @mightyfilm
      @mightyfilm Рік тому

      @@JohnDoe-wq5eu Well, most of season 1 was redubbed with Frank Welker as Dr. Claw, but there are a few episodes where Don Francks still can be heard in the role. Gadget Goes West at least. I don't know how the Don Adams dialogue was handled. Either he recorded first or there was a scratch track for the other performers to go off of. Seems like they did the same thing with the Mario cartoon and at least Lou Albano's voice. Everyone else in that show was Canadian based at the time.

It had the same narrator as Captain N The Game Master, Long John Baldry and on Captain N they even visited the Dragon Warrior world. Pretty much helped cement an entire video game universe in my head canon ha ha! Jeffrey Scoff of Captain N The Game Master also wrote for the 90s Mega Man cartoon. I always took that as his apology for that green Mega Man, even though it wasn't his fault lol! Also it was funny how Mega Man's intro song in the 90s cartoon sounded like "Highway to the Danger Zone." That song was played in two Mega Man centric episodes on Captain N! While never explained I always assumed the live action segments were a prequel of sorts to the Mario Bros life before being pulled into the Mushroom Kingdom. But if the dance in the opening was improvised, they really had some good instincts because I always loved that dance. And I personally really liked the Legend of Zelda cartoon. My whole life I have loved swords swinging adventure with fantasy. LoZ offered that and of course as a kid it never registered with me that Link never used his sword as a sword.
    But I remember just how nuts that show was. An episode where they sawed a pair of flying carpets in half to make a biplane, the mech suit they copiloted where Luigi's face was sticking out from where the belt buckle would be, or the Indiana Jones knockoff with no face. From what I understand that was an oversite due to the rushed nature of production. I guess he was supposed to have a face, but the character workups had been sent off to the animators before the face could be drawn and they were just following instructions without question.

    While the cartoons were fun, the show simply wouldn't be the same without the live action Mario and Luigi segments. Danny and Captain Lou had amazing chemistry, and you really thought they were brothers. I especially loved how the cheapness of the series gave it so much charm, especially when Mario and Luigi's relatives would pop by, played by Lou and/or Danny, usually in drag. I was ecstatic the movie paid tribute to the series. You can tell the filmmakers were fans when they were kids, and it finally got Nintendo to acknowledge the series (they weren't fans). Truly a special video game based series, and one of my favorites. it really is a shame we didn't get another cartoon after the Super Mario World series. Sonic always manages to have a cartoon series on in some form, probably because SEGA doesn't have a bug up their butts about character licensing. That said, the pop music was already removed from the series before the DVD's no thanks to a rare, Family Channel exclusive Mario rerun package called "Mario All Stars." A similar, but syndicated, Captain N package series also removed that series' pop music. The Mario cartoons had instrumental songs from the SMB3 and SMW cartoons while Captain N just kept using "Mega Move" from their show's second season.

      @@Angie2343 It's a show I really wish I didn't dislike and think was the weakest of the Sonic cartoons. I HATE how they portrayed Knuckles, first of all, but aside from that the executive meddling ruined the series. I like the idea of Sonic having a brother and a sister and I like them being both voiced by the same actor as Sonic. Reminds me of how White played all of Urkle's relatives, even the female ones. The concept is strong, the theme tune just slaps, but there's something about them having to make it a TV/EI series that ruined its potential. I'm caught in between the "it's not that bad" and "it is" camps, and I feel that Sonic SAT AM was a tough act to follow being a factor. At least Sega allowed a few other Sonic Cartoons since. Before the movie the last Mario cartoon was Super Mario World. That was a far weaker series than Underground was and a disappointing for the last Mario television series. I mean, replacing Toad with Oogtar... no thanks.
