Despite being kind of a last minute replacement for another series and taking a few tries to get it right Darkwing Duck still has a large fanbase always looking for more Darkwing.
Darkwing Duck is an American animated superhero comedy television series produced by Disney Television Animation that first ran from 1991 to 1992 on both the syndicated programming block The Disney Afternoon and Saturday mornings on ABC. A total of ninety-one episodes were aired.
It features the adventures of Darkwing Duck, who is the superhero alter-ego of ordinary suburban duck Drake Mallard living in an unassuming suburban house with his adopted daughter Gosalyn and often accompanied by his sidekick Launchpad McQuack
While it definitely it uses some characters from Ducktales it is definitely NOT a spin-off of Ducktales... or is it?

I just turned 40 in January, and I'm right there with you.
Though... with so many classic 80s and 90s properties popping up on various streaming services, it's becoming easier to relive those amazing Saturday mornings in our pjs and a big bowl of sugary cereal (and with our own kids if we have any) just like it used to be.
Just be careful running outside to climb trees and build forts - we're not as bouncy as we used to be...

Dan, thanks so much for the kind words about the Darkwing Duck comics; as a fan of toys, and your channel, it was a great honor to be mentioned!
    There are two small things: One, Boom didn’t lose the comics license because of Disney’s Marvel purchase, but rather due to some editorial malfeasance;
And two; The 2016 run had strong sales, but zero marketing or promotion outside of Silvani and myself on social media. Still, sales were strong and the series was acclaimed, but Joe Books overextended itself and just pretty much ran out of money.
    Thanks again!

Not surprised he’s not looked upon very favorably and he said for the reason why he canned most of those shows I listed? Oh I’m in charge he said and then he said I don’t want it here so it’s done.

As someone who was born in the early 2000s and had no knowledge of Darkwing Duck or heck even the Disney afternoon prior to 2017, 91 Darkwing Duck still wonderfully holds up. I recall watching both the Darkwing Duck and DuckTales opening in UA-cam and while they were very catchy and memorable, I found myself enamored by Darkwing Duck's opening more than I was with DuckTales, so I ended up watching the series first. I loved it needlessly to say. I loved Drake's and Gosalyn's father-daughter relationship which is the heart of the show, transcending it from it's parody genred contemporaries. It's thanks to Darkwing that eventually I found myself appreciating not just the og DuckTales, and the rest of the Disney Afternoon shows, but it lead to me rediscovering the older Disney theatrical animated shorts back when Walt was still alive. Tad Stones and the rest of team behind Darkwing Duck should be proud for creating a classic show that still holds up and having a dedicated fanbase that still so eagerly awaits for more content. I'm excited for the reboot. I hope we get to see a Drake Mallard very close to his 91 personality.

Both Darkwing Duck and Ducktales NES games were very clearly made using the Mega Man engine, but that's definitely to their benefit as both games are very good, especially for licensed games.
Capcom released "The Disney Afternoon Collection" on Steam which is all of their licensed NES games - DW, Ducktales 1 and 2, Chip n Dale 1 and 2 and TaleSpin - in one convenient package. They even have an 8-bit rendition of the Disney Afternoon theme for the game select menu, which itself is a faithful recreation of the intro to the Disney Afternoon programming block.

I have a strong memory of, back in 1992, a classroom activity where we were sharing our favourite shows, and the whole class laughed at me for saying mine was Darkwing Duck. At the time, I was pretty humiliated, and feeling like there was something wrong with me for my preference, but looking back, as a jaded 40-year-old, all I can think is what a bunch of pretentious 11-year-olds they were, as if their tastes were so much more sophisticated. Hmph...
11:15 Yeah, I remember being confused at the time about the fact that Negaduck had at least three different origin stories. Is he from an alternate dimension, or is he the "galvanized" evil half of Darkwing? Who knows? Also, it's probably worth pointing out that the show had a regular habit of killing off its villains. It had no problem tossing Bushroot into a wood-chipper or tossing Negaduck out of reality itself, only for them to return in future episodes as if nothing happened.

My main series, Night Hawk, got its start way back with me as a child exploring my own adventurous worlds while watching Darkwing Duck. A few years ago, I received the amazing privilege of meeting Jim Cummings, and shared with him his role in the inspiration for my life's work. He autographed the very first printed copy of my first novel as Darkwing Duck. Live long, Darkwing! You'll always have a special place in my heart.

Darkwing Duck was my favorite Disney afternoon cartoon, and as softer cartoons go he was one of the better super heroes of the 90s imo. Similar to Batman in that he fights super villains, but he's really a normal dude, and they would even get into the psychology of that, and it all made it a really cool cartoon. They even kind of came to the same conclusions Batman did in a lot of ways. It was probably intentionally aping DC for all of that, but it did it well enough it feels like it's doing it's own thing regardless.
I even still remember the theme song by heart.

The only thing that really seems to identify the Spider, so you don't mistake him for a Shadow, Spectre, Phantom, or Skull is that his cape is black and red, which is nothing like Darkwing Duck. In my tiny mind, it was hundreds, though in reality it was probably 15, tops.

Though I do hope they give the new show its own continuity rather than use the backstory set up in DuckTales, there’s more than enough potential in the “single father by day, superhero by night” premise without adding “former actor trying to become a superhero” into the mix.

He can be accident prone. However, once he gets his vices under control, he's a very efficient and effective hero.
