There is also 'Gigi' starring Leslie Caron, Maurice Chevalier and Louis Jourdan...Leslie was dubbed despite filming using her own voice for Vincent Minnelli's enregistrement of the classic Hollywood's Golden Age film. Fortunately for Caron she didn't have a singing role in 'An American in Paris' and her natural talent as a ballerina came into good use...guess everybody can't have every possible artistic talent!!!!
I'm glad that they let Zac sing in the sequels. I had no idea that Drew Seeley provided his vocals, I loved him in "Another Cinderella Story."
I recognize his voice
High School Musical is such a classic gem. It’s the biggest memory of my childhood. Brings me back to when Disney was… truly beautiful and great.
Zac Efron was amazing as Troy Bolton.
Marni Nixon is the queen of professional dubbing in Hollywood. Her vocal talents were used for Natalie Wood and Audrey Hepburn, to name but a few.
also Deborah Kerr in the King and I
She also had a children's TV show in Seattle, Boomerang, which ran from 1977-1981, playing herself with Muppet like characters. My daughter loved watching the show growing up.
She also dubbed for Grandmother Fa in Mulan. :-)
I remember when Jennifer Lopez said in an interview that she refused to use her own vocals in the movie Selena because she didn't want to disrespect Selena's music,or her legions of fans
I remember when I first saw High School Musical, I kept wondering why Zac Efron had 2 different singing voices
In older movies, Susan Hayward lip synced Jane Froman in With a Song in My Heart and Sandy Ellis in I'll Cry Tomorrow.
And the great Marnie Nixon also sang for Deborah Kerr in both An Affair to Remember and The King and I.
Also, besides dubbing for Natalie Wood in West Side Story, Marnie Nixon dubbed Rita Moreno's singing in the film's "Tonight" quintet.
Bc Troy's singing was overlapped by drew seeley
First high school musical
Zac hit puberty and can’t sing high so they had drew seeley sing for him
As a kid I never knew that it wasn’t Zac Efron’s actual voice singing in the first HSM but then I heard the difference when 2 and 3 came out and realised hey he sounds different? And then I was surprised to find out it Was Drew Seely singing for him all along. 😊❤️❤️
Something that wasn't mentioned about Marni Nixon: She's the mother of the late singer-songwriter Andrew Gold (best known for his compositions, "Lonely Boy" and a little song called "Thank You for Being a Friend").
in my childhood i was surprised by the fact that Zac didn't sing on the first movie but on the sequel even Simon Cowell was surprised by his talent offering a record deal that Zac didn't accept and now after hairspray & the greatest showman i really need another musical with him, i really love his voice
Another example is Lorren Alred singing never enough in the greatest show rather than rebbecca Ferguson
Right. I expected to see it mentioned in the video.
I was shocked to hear that Zac wasn't using his voice in High School Musical.
I remember when i first found out Zac didn't do the singing, it felt like i had to reevaluate my childhood
I already did know that it was Drew Seeley dubbing Zac Enron in High School Musical 2006, because I looked it up, and there is the concert.
High School Musical is the perfect example of that!
Zac Efron in HSM1. I totally thought it was his own!
There are many more examples of actors being dubbed when you see them singing on screen.
Richard Beymer’s singing in West Side Story was dubbed, too.
In the Sound of Music, the Reverend Mother’s singing voice was also dubbed. Because the actress was not a singer, the director had her turn to her side and look out the window during the Climb Ev’ry Mountain number as she lip synced, and the effect is fantastic.
In the Jerry Lee Lewis biopic Great Balls of Fire, Lewis himself provided Dennis Quaid’s singing voice.
In the original film version of South Pacific, the singing voices of Rossano Brazzi, John Kerr and, most surprisingly, Juanita Hall were all dubbed by others.
Marni Nixon also dubbed for Deborah Kerr in The King and I . Nixon had such a unique quality and timbre to her singing voice that if you watch every movie where she dubbed for the leading lady, you’ll notice a pattern: Despite there being different actresses, they all sounded pretty much the same when they sang.
I didn’t know that it was drew voice instead of Zac’s from the first HSM movie but I’m glad that he was able to sing his actual voice in the sequels
There's also Mitchell Hope in the first Descendants Movie. He doesn't sing the song "Did I Mention" or "Be Our Guest"
Definitely Bohemian Rhapsody surprised me
Interesting video. The biggest twist i found in cinema is what happened with Debbie Reynolds on "Singing in the rain" and it was surprising for me not seeing this example here. I justify replace singing voices actors in musical films by lipsync when it comes to a biopic movie, specially when the singer's voice to remember and celebrate is very recognizable for the audience because their songs are still listening in the media. Zac Efron in High School Musical was my first approach to these situations and i remember many kids were very dissapointed knowing what happened specially when the movie cast did a world tour concerts and was Drew Selley in the stage instead of Efron.
I can’t believe Never Enough from The Greatest Showman didn’t make the list
"Back in 1997, Lopez wasn't known for her vocal talents"
It's 2024 and she still isn't.
She didn't even sing many of her own songs on her albums.
On the other hand, Selena had a really beatiful voice. It's a shame what happened to her.
😂🤣
Came to say this too😂
Where did you hear that Jennifer Lopez never sang any of her own songs?
You guys missed from Sister Act Wendy Makkena as Sister Mary Robert (singing voice: Andrea Robinson)
The musical Xanadu features the music of ELO and Olivia Newton John, but there is a sequence in the film, where the audience thought the male leader might have been singing in a duet. He wasn't, it was Olivia's very famous friend and fellow singer Cliff Richard.
Julie Andrews had played Elisa Doolittle on stage, but didn't get the film role, so Marnie Nixon did the singing voice, for Audrey Hepburn, for the majority of the film. The reasons the producers didn't get Julie Andrews, is because she was contracted to Disney for Mary Poppins and they had already chosen against her, missing out on getting her after Disney snapped her up, in my opinion a big mistake.
There's a wonderful clip of Julie's Golden Globe acceptance speech where she thanks the Warner Bros for not casting her.
Happy new year, Sophia, and what a great top this was. Have a happy monday morning as well , and greetings from Colombia.
I'm disappointed the number one wasn't Debbie Reynolds in Singing in the Rain, given the plot of the movie.
Another example is Angela Bassett lip-syncing to the real Tina Turner in "What's Love Got To Do With It", but I guess it's more surprising/impressive when it's not the original artist who's the "ghost voice"
Also, Bill Lee did the singing voice of Roger in "101 Dalmatians" as well
Of course Angela Bassett didn't sing in what's love got to do with it but at least she was classy enough to admit it
@@ranitagadling4312 George Clooney admitted it. What’s the difference?
Happy New Year, with a happy new video! Just like that narrator in the picture! 0:04
I found out about HSM just after I'd seen the film and Drew Seeley is 1,000 times hotter than Zac IMO.
Michael J Fox also didn't sing "Johnny B Goode" in Back to the future but he did play the guitar which is incredible
When Lou Diamond Phillips played as Richie Valens, The singers from Los Lobos sang the singing parts.
yes, everybody needs to watch Marc Martel's cover of "Somebody to Love"!
also Rebecca Ferguson, aka Jinny Lind, and I think young BT Barnum both lip synched in "The Greatest Showman"
J Lo does sing very briefly in "Selena": when shes instructing the band how to play the opening notes of Como La Flor to calm the crowd in Monterey
I might sound like a conspiracy but I also think that the role of Troy Bolton was supposed to be played by Drew Seeley but beyond recording the songs for the movie they decided to cast Zac Efron for the role of Troy.
You could probably have a completely separate list for musical biopics, given that most of those are dubbed. It's more surprising when they're not! I was actually surprised that Rebecca Ferguson in The Greatest Showman didn't make the list.
Zac did sing in the last 2 movies that was in his contract with disney he said if they wanted him for the rest of the films then he wanted to sing the songs
The narrator mentioned that Efron did his own singing in the sequels
@@MorganKing95 i wrote this before watching the video they leave things out somtimes

That's why you wait with the comments until the video, or at least the entry, is finished
Yeah, I get why people would think that George Clooney can sing like his aunt did!
I would have had Trudy Steven's singing for Vera Ellen in White Christmas and also James Intvell, who sang for Johnny Depp in Cry-Baby.
Wait. That wasn't actually Zac Effron?! 🤯
Almost every music biopic ever. I thought Zac Efron sang in the first High School Musical movie for the longest time until I got older and found out he pulled a Milli Vanilli and the ghost singer was Drew Seeley. I hope Drew is doing well.
Agreed, the only time Zac actually used his own voice was when he sang those few lines of "Start of Something New" in Gabriella's bedroom. I grew up watching Drew in Another Cinderella Story.
I had no idea Drew was in Another Cinderella Story. I remember they used to air reruns of it on Disney Channel and it was very cheesy. I was shocked to find out that Drew was 26 and Selena Gomez was 15 during the shooting.
@@kamsismith Me too, it makes romantic scenes between their characters a little hard to watch, in light of the large age difference.
The first few lines in Start of something new and Breaking free is Zac along with that scene where he sang to Gabriella but for the majority of the songs, its Drew Seeley. Zac's voice is sprinkled in a little in some other parts as well. Now its quite obvious when they switch from Zac's voice to Drew's voice
Happy new year msmojo
Loved the Whitney Houston biopic! Amazingly done! I watched the Tina turner one too and it was amazing.
*MY FAVORITES:*
Zac Efron - High School Musical
Jamie Foxx - Ray
Christopher Plummer - The Sound of Music
Jennifer Lopez - Selena
George Clooney - O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Audrey Hepburn - My Fair Lady
Natalie Wood - West Side Story
Rebecca Ferguson - The Greatest Showman
Naomi Ackie - Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody
Mitchell Hope - Descendants
Debbie Reynolds - Singin' in the Rain
Marion Cotillard - La Vie en Rose
Super early 😅
There was also Never enough in Greatest showman
Jesse Lange as Patsy Cline
For whatever reason I thought that Jamie Foxx did the vocals on Ray. Phenomenal performance regardless though!
I have high school musical and sound of music on dvd and I have my fair lady vhs😊
0:32 I like high school musical
As a former all star cheerleader and national champion, my favorite stunt to throw were baskets 🥰
I was hoping you would mention Andre Braugher in Duets (2000). I wanted to see it on the list because Paul Giamatti did his own part of the duet.
You totally forgot about Matthew Brodrick in Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Maybe not as well known, but spectacularly well done us Edmond Purdom lip synching to Mario Lanza’s voice in “The Student Prince.”
I think most of these shocked me!
I love musicals and music in movies. What i dont like, is when you have a person that is supposed to be in a real situation, but clearly the song and his voice has been through 10 hours of heavy production in the studio. It ruins everything for me. Cast a person who can actually sing, and then let him/her sing, instead of dubbing it. Music is an artform. It is not supposed to be perfect. It is supposed to make people feel things.
Why is Loren Allred not here? Her Never Enough was surprise enough.
There's other musicals that have certain actors singing voices dubbed, they dubbed the singing voice of Irene moley in hello dolly, even though Debbie Reynolds sang in singing in the rain but in two of the songs in the movie would you and my lucky star, her singing voice was dubbed, Johnny Depp's singing voice was dubbed in cry baby
Top of my head.
Cameron Diaz The Mask.
Meg Ryan and John Cusack Anastasia.
Kathleen Turner Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
Scott Weinger Aladdin.
Rebecca Ferguson The Greatest Showman.
Jennifer Lopez Selena
Rami Malek Bohemian Rhaposdy
Naomi Ackle I Wanna Dance With Somebody
They dubbed over people who could sing yet they didn't dub the voices of Russell Crowe in Les Miserable, Emma Watson in the Beauty & The Beast remake, Pierce Brosnan in Mamma Mia, & Gerard Butler in The Phantom Of The Opera? All performances who COULDN'T sing? WTF guys?
I definitely agree with Russell Crowe and Pierce Brosnan. But as a fan of the live-action and animated Beauty and the Beast, I can’t bring myself to trash Emma Watson
@@loveolicity4542 same
As a huge fan of hsm I seriously doubt that any of the cast actually sang in any of the movies including the rumored 4th movie that Disney allegedly. wants to make
I find it super hilarious that so many comments here are talking about how shocked they were when they found out that Zac Efron didn’t actually sing in High School Musical it instead was Drew Seeley.😂😅
I was twelve when the movie came out.
It was my friends who told me.
I was disappointed but I also expected it to happen with movies too.
Then when Zac Efron sang for Hairspray and the High School Musical sequels I was perfectly happy.🤩
I learned though that Zac Efron’s voice was changing and that’s why Drew Seeley took over his singing voice.
Drew Seeley Voice
Ah, so that's Marni!
George Clooney a nepobaby? Of course!
THE FIVE HEART BEATS DID THIS WITH AFTER 7
I had no idea Zac Efron was lip singing.
The only one I am familiar with is the guy who done the George Clooney song
Thankfully I found out Zac Efron didn't since in the first movie due to a Vtuber clip yesterday
I knew drew seeley sang troys lyric
They should have kept Audrey's voice for "Wouldn't It Be Loverly" it is not that demanding like "I Could Have Danced All Night"
She had a good voice.
you missed Eddie and the Cruisers
how about Dorothy Dandridge and Harry Belafonte in CARMEN JONES?
Soooooo no Angela Bassett as Tina Turner???
While it was awesome that I loved Selena being at number one and it was awfully fascinating to learn about Jennifer Lopez on how her first album came out after Selena.
No offense, but, I really feel like it's majorly disrespectful to say that the movie, Selena, had to have Jennifer Lopez's voice and not Selena's.
Selena got murdered two years before this movie came out.
The movie was supposed to be all about Selena not Jennifer Lopez.
I even read somewhere and learned from other people that the main reason why Jennifer Lopez didn't sing in the Selena movie was not because she was just starting off and people didn't realize how big she'd be.
It's because she had to be Selena to show off who Selena really was before she got tragically killed.
Selena's family wanted it and Selena's fans wanted it.
They would have thrown a massive fit if the actress/singer didn't even fit Selena at all.
Heck, the fans didn't want Jennifer Lopez to play Selena because she was Puerto Rican and not Mexican-American like Selena was.
But, once Jennifer Lopez did phenomenally well as Selena they praised her.
I'm sure Jennifer Lopez herself wanted to highly respect Selena in that way too.
So to say that Jennifer Lopez didn't sing in that movie because she was just starting off completely disregards who Selena was, what music she made, and what she went through.
That is extremely disrespectful. :(
“In 1997 Lopez wasn’t known for her vocal talents” officially 2024 and this is still the case
HSM❤
“We’re counting down our picks for those musical movie moments when the voice you hear doesn’t actually belong to the person singing on screen.”
Then why does the video title say Top 10 Times Movies Got Someone Else to Sing?
(I may have misread the video title. To me the title sounds like the main character got others to sing with them or a side character got the shy main character to sing.)
You definitely read it wrong
Actually, Thurl Ravenscroft provided Shere Kahn's singing voice.
No, it was Lee. Sherman Reitherman confirmed it on the audio commentary to the movie
@@MorganKing95 Try telling THAT to the people on Disney Wiki or Behind the Voice Actors.
@@ChipmunkRaccoon3
I trust the composer's own words way more than sites that can potentially be edited by a hobo on the street
@@MorganKing95 Short-sighted much?
@@ChipmunkRaccoon3
No, I just have a critical sense and don't believe in false rumors
We all knew it wasn’t Zac idk why people keep thinking is some big news
It's pretty obvious that music biopics won't have the actor singing.
Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon did their own singing in "Walk the Line", same with Taron Egerton in "Rocketman"
@@MorganKing95 Those are rare circumstances, but most people are expecting to hear the actual artist.
Marc Martel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
J.Lo doesn't even sing on her own albums either lol
🥂✨
In the movie musical "Porgy and Bess", Sidney Poitier was lip-synching to Robert McFerrin (Bobby McFerrin's father)
What about Michael the Michael Jackson’s biopic released last year 2025? Great one but the score doesn’t sing
I don't see any of those films.
First
Isn’t jlo always lip syncing 😂
wow u missed A HUGE VOICE!!!!!!!!!!!! The greatest showman and Loren Allred why wow what a HUGE MISSS SHE WAS SOOOOOOOOO GOOD SUCH A HUGE FAIL@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In the case of "Ray", they used recordings of the actual Ray Charles!
Yes, that’s what the video said. 🙄
@@vickiego1Nothing beats the original, does it?
