it's one big game of roulette? . well, yeah, i was saying that about Bristol. it is absolutely INEXCUSABLE for *the leaders* to be repeatedly blowing tires for no reason.
Man between the tire issues to the empty stands nascar really really needs to start considering why they have this track is still on the schedule going forward
So I live in Texas and loved going to this track before the reconfiguration. I understand that they were going for something different when they reconfigured it, but it just isn't working. I hope the rumors are true about this track getting another re-pave/reconfigure and they do something that will produce good racing with multiple groves. Hell, maybe re-pave turns 1&2 and reconfigure 3&4 to match? Keep the sticky spray crap off of it this time! IDK, I just hope they do something that will keep at least one date on the schedule.
I will say the stands weren’t empty. I was there and it was my first time at Texas, there were actually a lot of people there. I would say if you don’t count the bleacher sections on the end of the stands it was like 75% full. Maybe a little less. But a lot of people left after the lightning delay.
I could have sworned there were people in the stands. I'll go and play the DVD recording and check out what you posted. But I think you are incorrect. Maybe you were listening to the race on PRN? Just checked the DVD. Yep, you are wrong. There were people in the stands.
@@iandickey8320 Same experience I had the last time I went (2018). On TV, the stands look very empty, but when you are at the track, there are a lot of people there. Typically, this race brings in a lot of folks which is why I hope Speedway Motorsports does SOMETHING to the track so Nascar keeps it on the schedule. Can we take a moment to appreciate that Cody Ware is okay after his wreck? Everyone was freaking out think he was seriously injured and demanding immediate change, but then he was fine. His issues after getting out of the car may have been from likely having the wind knocked out of him and the insane heat at the track. Obviously, work needs to be done to make the car less rigid, but it did its job during a very nasty crash.
@@jayannakelley9051 yea but the new car is not as safe as it was when the mark martin crash happened because it was more likely than that a crew member was injured this year it's completely different
This race had every single next-gen failure all in the same race: bad tires, tire failures, hard crashes, bent toe links, broken toe links, car fires, wheels falling off, wheels not going on, power steering issues, transmission issues, literally everything that they changed from gen 6! At what point is the next gen car, as a capable race car, just a NASCAR failure?! EVERY SINGLE RACE has had issues related to the new car!
This is mostly on the teams. The tire issue is because I believe teams have camber, tire pressure creating more load. Seemed like Chevy had the least which tells me they know there is a limit. Might be why Chevy has looked slower because they are not pushing as hard as other teams. Set up played a big part in the tire issue Imo.
The Nextgen care is too stiff. It handles being beat on well, but the drivers don't handle the beating as well. The single lug low profile tire that fails catastrophically has been a disaster and needs to be totally redone to improve reliability and ease of use. Combine that with a track that has to have resin smeared all over it so that it is not follow the leader and you get this. 50% may have been too nice a grade IMHO. Thanks for the content and the hard work.
I enjoyed the racing. Larson went from 4th or 5th to the lead in two laps at one point!! They were slipping and sliding around and I enjoyed seeing guys struggle with grip!! The tire failures were unfortunate but we saw some really fun moments with the 11 car specifically and his altercations on track with the 5 car at the end of stage one and and with the 24 late in the race.
I do agree that this race has been abysmal due to tire issues and other stuff. I saw Cody Ware’s crash and it was absolutely brutal, just goes to show that there needs to be improvements with the Next Gen car. And this is the 4th time seeing a non playoff driver win a race. Damn, if only Reddick didn’t get eliminated from the Round of 16, he would’ve made it to the Round of 8.
this take makes no sense to me about ware's crash. if anything, the fact that ware is relatively unhurt after that absurdly hard hit shows how awesome the car is at protecting drivers from major hits. they obviously need to work on the small hits not hurting as much
The tire couldn’t handle the 140 deg surface temperature. Seems to me they missed the correct compound by a mile. Fortunately there wasn’t more severe injuries.
There needs to be a drivers union after today I’m scared NASCAR won’t do ANYTHING unless a big name driver gets hurt/killed like what happened with Dale Sr
NASCAR has always been very efficient at stopping unions. Since the drivers aren't employees but independent contractors they can just ban them if they attempt it
NASCAR had done something like that. Back in 1995 Russell Phillips died at Charlotte in the worst NASCAR crash possibly ever, and yet didn’t do anything about until Dale Earnhardt got injured at Talledega.
Don't forget about Whiney Hamlin trying to wreck Larson on the last lap of stage one. And then bumping him during the caution.. 100% deserved what he got from Byron.

I liked what Dale Jr said lasy week. The drivers have to learn they cant drive this new car at 100% the whole race, maybe they can go 85-90 then the last 100 laps go 100%.
My take on the tires is this: if they are failing because teams are pushing the limits on their setups after Goodyear gave them guidelines on air pressure, then the teams can only blame themselves. Now if it turns out to be a problem unrelated to the setups, then Goodyear needs to get their crap together
Yeah let's build a sports car and put it in the place of a cup series stock car. Let's give it a tall wheel, a short sidewall, and a single lug nut, and put it under extreme loads on high banked circle track. Everything will be fine. -- NASCAR Probably.
Good post race show Eric. The one thing I'll note is I do like single car cautions that happen because the track is slick and hard to drive (like Kyle Busch's). I liked that aspect of the wildness.
We need minimum pressures. Driver safety is a sanctioning body issue, and there’s no way Goodyear is happy with how this makes them look either. IMSA has minimum pressures, so they have the technology in-house to do it too.
A lot of these tire issues could be easily resolved if they went back to 15” wheels. The new wheels make the tires not have enough side wall to lean on.
I agree. I know they want them to look like the wheels on the real cars. But it doesn't really matter... you dont see the wheels when they are going 180 to 200 mph.
What? They could change to the old wheels. Just new wheel hub and brakes... suspension would stay the same. Obviously setups would change. That's about it. There is alot more to this new car then just the new wheels. Don't get me wrong I do like the new car. These wheels are just not working. I feel like these wheels will be what the wing was on the COT.
This TMS race was about 10x better than I expected. It had chaos. It had drivers pissed off at each other, NASCAR, pit reporters. It had intrigue caused by tire failures and aggressive setups. It had playoff drivers and big-name non-playoff drivers encounter peril. It had horror in a terrible crash (thank God Cody is okay). I love it.
What I find funny about the Byron Vs Hamlin incident is that Byron did the EXACT same thing to Logano that Hamlin did to him. And then Logano paid Byron back and Byron was mad. But then Byron got a taste of his own meds and now he's mad?
It's not the same situation and I can give you several reasons why. Whether you think Byron squeezed Lagono into the wall or not, he didn't have half the room Hamlin had to make the corner. Byron didn't damage Lagono's car to where it took him out of contention to win (clearly). Hamlin with his move caused Byron to hit the wall much harder and damaged his steering and lose a ton of spots as well. Though it's Byron's fault for spinning Hamlin under caution, he didn't wreck his car into the wall and take him out of the race.
Not really. Byron maintained his line at a place where the track narrowed at the top and Logano was trying to squeeze through. Tonight Hamlin didn’t lift and sailed up forcing Byron into the wall. Frankly, I’m thinking Hamlin wasn’t paying attention and was unprepared for the bump. He gives and is always surprised at a return. Larson owed him a bump too.
I'm genuinely afraid that this championship won't be won by who has the fastest car, or the most skilled driver. I'm afraid it will be won based on what car doesn't lose an engine, catch fire, or blow a tire in these next few races. This was an absolute disaster on all levels. It was unacceptable, and we should not be crowning a champion with all this BS.
Yeah, drivers are angry over the tire situation, like Truex in his interviews, but yeah, as a Truex fan, the last four races have been pain. (Along with the year.)😕
Everything is broken is correct! The cars, the tires, the schedule, the points system, the officiating etc. The darkest days for this sport are still ahead and appear to be not too far away if they don’t do some major changes soon.
Debatable. Personally, while I think the point system could use tweaking, I love the chase/playoffs format - it keeps people talking the whole season where otherwise people would tune out with a driver running away with it and only having to average a 20th place over the last 10 races. The schedule is the best it's ever been(other than MAYBE too many RCs) so I really don't know what you want there. You don't have to be so doom and gloom all the time.
@@lpbbinc Yes because God forbid the best and most consistent driver wins the championship. You just described exactly why NASCAR is considered a gimmick sport these days.
@@alantherock225 it's the same in most sports. The "best team" doesnt always win, the NCAA basketball tournament is a good example. They should place a bigger emphasis on the regular season champion, but the playoffs incite a ton of fan interaction and discussion that would otherwise be completely absent. It hasn't been a straight up points system in 20 years and the majority of drivers never raced in NASCAR before the chase. I've been watching since '96 and I can tell you that the racing is as good or better than it's ever been
Can we get a moment of silence for us MTJ fans over the last 5 races, daytona he missed the playoffs, and then in 3 of the last 4 races he had a mechanical issue, while Leading!
50% in my opinion is being very kind. Goodyear has got to do better at giving the teams tires that won't explode after 40 laps. Nascar needs to give the teams 1 or 2 hours of controlled practice every race and the teams have to stop trying to get every 100th of a second because the air pressures are right on the jagged edge. Prayers to Cody Ware on a Quick recovery from what looked like a frightening crash. Love the channel my friend. Always look forward to your take on last week's race.
I agree with everything you said. Something needs to be done with this car whatever that might be. 90% of the Xfinity and Truck races were WAY more entertaining than the Cup races. I'm sure that the TV ratings show this but of course we will never see these stats. If they are not, then it won't take too much longer before it happens.
I've defended NASCAR and the playoffs for years now, I cant this year. It has nothing to with talent, and everything to do with luck of the draw and survival. Its like watching squid games.
I know that they switched to a low profile tire this year, but NASCAR and Goodyear need to figure out how to put an inner liner in these tires. They had them on all tracks over 1 mile and I think they even used them at Dover and Phoenix towards the end. Not only can the drivers have a chance to get back to pit road after accident, but it would take part of the load away from the outer layer
During the race, they said Paul Wolf made a 1/2 pound air pressure adjustment to the 22, that they were having to undo because they got too tight and were falling back. Then as soon as mid pack cars make an adjustment and head forward (Buescher, Harvick, Etc.) they've pushed it too far with the right rear. It's almost like everyone has to run the same setting, or they get screwed, one way or the other.
My dad and I were there for our first NASCAR race. It was long, we were tired, the race wasn't that good, but it was so fun. I totally enjoyed it and I cant wait to make it to another race. just hope its a better one next time.
I loved it. If tires goes down, blame teams. I really like teams taking risks and being penalized by live for going into ver the line. Instant Karma RULES!
instead of doing group practice for 15 minutes they should do one 45 minute practice so teams can find what tire wear is I agree a hour but I think 45 minutes is good
The younger generations just didn't grow up when the randomness of attrition was a part of the game. With the return of how a driver treats his car and the crew sets it up can be the difference that part has returned. I love the unexpected in racing. It's part of what made old school racing great.
They weren't forced to use spec cars, either. This nascar would have given Jimmy Johnson the boot. Cookie cutter cars. Rich teams will always make faster engines. At least with the subpar single source vendors, anyone could get a really faulty part any week. Even HMS or JGR.
True, but the tire or a new car should not be the only star. I don’t care if parts break due to Ill luck, but the set-up did not seem like the only reason tires failed.
Eric I gave this race a 7/10 before giving it an 8, you gave it a 5, but people are threatening me, like why am I a bad guy right now? people say my rating of this race stinks, people saying i was stupid believing that austin dillon is a championship favorite, and saying that I don't know nothing about sports, like why are people attacking me, what did I sya or do wrong?
I agree the teams are pushing it harder in the chase. More so then in the regular season. However I put some blame on Goodyear because of the fact it's so hit or miss on if a tire will make a run or not. I think Goodyear's quality is nowhere close to similar from one tire to the next. Which is a huge problem that needs addressed. Teams can't adjust to tires if they are not consistent from one tire to the next.
I think the reason NASCAR is so opposed to bringing back full practices is for parity's sake. Perhaps they feel an extended practice would benefit the top teams more, as they have more resources and better personnel to adjust their cars more effectively than the lower tier teams. Whereas, if everyone goes into the race blind, everyone is on an even playing field. I'm not saying that's a good idea, but it's my theory. I hope they weigh the pros and cons of this practice format, and go back to full practices again.
It has happened at Dega before, 2008 in the Fall. Brian Vickers blew a Right Front in Front of the Entire Field. Lucky that no more than 10 cars were involved. Couple of Laps Later Denny Hamlin blew a tire as the Race Leader and ended up on a Stretcher in the Back of the EMT.
Ah, a fellow William Byron. Looked to me that Byron just tried to bump him and hit at an awkward angle. He did mean to bump him but the spin was not intentional (probably)
Was at the race in person. The tire issues were frustrating but it did make what I expected to be a mundane snooze-fest into an entertaining yet bewildering in-person experience
@@theseanie9958 yes but normally under caution you take out a driver nascar usually give that driver penalty... but they aren't very consistent with penalty seems it depends on the driver..
I have a Texas track layout reconfiguration idea: - Curve the backstretch similarly to Chicagoland - Make turns 3&4 shorter slightly, but progressively banked in a similar way to Homestead - Turns 1&2 would be like New Hampshire, Bristol, and Kansas: In the way of Kansas, it would be progressive banking with multiple grooves with various banking; like Bristol with the top being pretty banked but narrow, and the bottom groove would be flatter than it is now and similar to New Hampshire. Basically, the bottom groove would be the shortest way around but with so little grip it would be a challenge to put the power down; the top groove would be fast but because of the length of it compared to the bottom, would you be willing to take the extra length; and the middle groove is fast but not as (potentially) rewarding as the other two grooves. I'm interested to see how everyone else would think about this idea?
Just to update the Hamlin vs. Byron situation, Scott Miller said that the reason for no Byron penalty at the time was because they missed it (Yeah, that again), and that penalties could still be coming for Byron.
My playoff format: it’s not win and your in and only the top ten make it. One points reset at the start and one for the final race. The rounds would be 10, 8, 6, 4. It balances the fairness for the fans as well as the excitement for ratings.
I hate win and your in . I actually liked the old chase 10 drivers 10 races to get it . Just make wins count for a ton of points . I think you also get a better regular season and the best of the best .
I could understand your point but then your taking racing out of racing and destroying the point of running independent rears. We might as well bring the ladder bar suspension back. I think side wall development from Goodyear is needed, AND longer practice sessions being permitted from NASCAR to identify these issues before race day. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY a MINIMUM AIR PRESSURE permitted (Not a suggestion) you pay fines. My car at home tells me constant info, we have the technology…take the excuses and finger pointing out of Goodyears hands. But I don’t get paid six figures to make these decisions
As a Byron fan I think he should be fined because that was uncalled for. I think emotions were at a crazy high for a Texas race and some of that was due to the unpredictability of the race.
I made a video on this as well. I explained all the issues and things they need to improve on. I love this sport and I am truly ashamed and disappointed in the way this season is ending! Hopefully 2023 is a major improvement!

I watched the entire Falcons game, a Braves game finish after a 2 hour rain delay. And even without the lightning delay, that was one of the most painful, long, felt like never ending races I've ever seen. Not a single thing about that was enjoyable.
If another non playoff driver wins next week at Talladega, and the new car gets someone injured next week, don't say I told you so. And if everyone tunes out of watching Talladega and watchs the NFL next Sunday, my point will be proven right again about NASCAR in general. You watch, it will happen
It would appear that some of the shortcomings of the new car, like loose wheel nuts, driver impact complaints, flammable materials, suspension weakness and tire probs, that we thought would be evident early in the season and worked through by now, are actually just starting to become more evident.
We all may have different opinions on the format, we all have are own favourite driver, and we all have are favourite type of racing package. But I think we can all agree on one thing Goodyear tires suck!!!

well, yeah, i was saying that about Bristol. it is absolutely INEXCUSABLE for *the leaders* to be repeatedly blowing tires for no reason.
Thank you for being honest all the broadcaster’s and any media is so scared of NASCAR to voice opinions
I'm 4 hours from the track, so it's convenient for me and the family to make the drive once every couple years.
@@charlesrussell6201 it look like a ghost town the stands were so empty. Yes their were people their but that's the worst crowd I've ever seen at a cup race.
Mark Martin hit about the same place at another track & people weren’t all freaking out about it.
@@jayannakelley9051 yea but the new car is not as safe as it was when the mark martin crash happened because it was more likely than that a crew member was injured this year it's completely different
Don’t worry Eric! I’m sure the Talladega race next week will be MUCH easier for you to digest 👍
This race had every single next-gen failure all in the same race:
bad tires, tire failures, hard crashes, bent toe links, broken toe links, car fires, wheels falling off, wheels not going on, power steering issues, transmission issues, literally everything that they changed from gen 6!
At what point is the next gen car, as a capable race car, just a NASCAR failure?! EVERY SINGLE RACE has had issues related to the new car!
We currently have no idea who the best drivers or teams are. That's what sucks about this season.
Single Lug has nothing to do with the tire.
Damn, if only Reddick didn’t get eliminated from the Round of 16, he would’ve made it to the Round of 8.
this take makes no sense to me about ware's crash. if anything, the fact that ware is relatively unhurt after that absurdly hard hit shows how awesome the car is at protecting drivers from major hits. they obviously need to work on the small hits not hurting as much
We def need more practice. Not all on goodyear, they just look bad bc it happens so frequently on live tv
I agree, but they can schedule more tire tests.
The first excuse was COVID, the next excuse was the parts shortage, they really don’t have an excuse to not add more practice next year
The tire couldn’t handle the 140 deg surface temperature. Seems to me they missed the correct compound by a mile. Fortunately there wasn’t more severe injuries.
I love the action, but we need to see some playoff drivers win...
Nice pfp
We are goofy ,
For sure. Though at least Reddick is in the Playoffs really. First driver who qualified on points to win a race in the Playoffs.
@@easyenetwork2023 but Reddick isn't in the playoffs. He was eliminated after Bristol
There needs to be a drivers union after today

Been waiting for this since the race ended love how quickly you upload these after the race ends
My take on the tires is this: if they are failing because teams are pushing the limits on their setups after Goodyear gave them guidelines on air pressure, then the teams can only blame themselves. Now if it turns out to be a problem unrelated to the setups, then Goodyear needs to get their crap together
I fully expect these issues end up being a result of aggressive set-ups. Some organizations had no issues at all.
Cars spinning out due to lack of grip is normal. Tire issues due to lack of practice is not cool.
@@easyenetwork2023 agreed
Just when you think a Nascar race couldn't get any worse....we had last night.
Am I the only one who noticed that even with a pit crew change, Hamlin still had a bad pit stop?🤣
I noticed that also...and laughed!
Texas Motor Speedway should be reconfigured to be 2000s Atlanta instead of some new experiment that might fail again.
Nascar officiating could not be any worse, ig that's an upside
We need minimum pressures. Driver safety is a sanctioning body issue, and there’s no way Goodyear is happy with how this makes them look either. IMSA has minimum pressures, so they have the technology in-house to do it too.
A lot of these tire issues could be easily resolved if they went back to 15” wheels. The new wheels make the tires not have enough side wall to lean on.
I agree. I know they want them to look like the wheels on the real cars. But it doesn't really matter... you dont see the wheels when they are going 180 to 200 mph.
Yes, NASCAR poor design thought, design and implementation.
They can't with out changing the whole suspension and brakes. At that point it would just be the old car.
@@horsefly1020 Correct - CANNOT be done. Most testing is the real answer but that costs $$$. Owners don't want it
Seems like Byron learned from Logano that it's okay to wreck someone as long as they wall you first
Round and round we go
That’s objectively false
(Along with the year.)😕
As a MTJ and KFB fan, this year has been very hard.
I don’t hate Byron’s move, don’t love it. But I find it better then then getting revenge on someone and wrecking him in front of the field.
Everything is broken is correct! The cars, the tires, the schedule, the points system, the officiating etc. The darkest days for this sport are still ahead and appear to be not too far away if they don’t do some major changes soon.
The broadcasting as well...
@@griffinconaway732 o man the coverage was horrible.
That track was broken at its inaugural event. Half the field wrecked out lap 3 or so.
I think you’re spot on about the lack of practice hurting the sport as a hole.
Whole!
The ratings you can find by probably going to the network website.
The low profile have no inner liner. Not impossible, but the wheel being big compared to the tire makes it harder to put in an inner liner.
Truex said they did not change setup, one set was good, the other was one lap from blowing.
What’s with all these tire failures?! Goodyear needs to fix this IMMEDIATELY!
I disagree. The tire should have been able to hold up a little better.
Wow, a 50 on the Groovy? I was expecting somewhere in the 30's to low 40's...
instead of doing group practice for 15 minutes they should do one 45 minute practice so teams can find what tire wear is I agree a hour but I think 45 minutes is good
If NASCAR didn't start the race SO late, the race would have been finished before a rain delay.
The younger generations just didn't grow up when the randomness of attrition was a part of the game. With the return of how a driver treats his car and the crew sets it up can be the difference that part has returned. I love the unexpected in racing. It's part of what made old school racing great.
That didn’t & it shows! Sick of hearing their whining!!
The North Wilkesboro Curse struck again today 😂😂
I agree the teams are pushing it harder in the chase. More so then in the regular season. However I put some blame on Goodyear because of the fact it's so hit or miss on if a tire will make a run or not. I think Goodyear's quality is nowhere close to similar from one tire to the next. Which is a huge problem that needs addressed. Teams can't adjust to tires if they are not consistent from one tire to the next.
you know this race was terrible when the track, the car, the tire, and the officiating all sucked and that the all star race was better…
All Star race was still worse. The only major problem tonight was the tire failures, something that had happened all season.
The 24 in your head most of the night delivers was also pretty darn good…..just saying….
I just realized the next race is Talladega, imagine if these issues pop up there…
It has happened at Dega before, 2008 in the Fall. Brian Vickers blew a Right Front in Front of the Entire Field. Lucky that no more than 10 cars were involved. Couple of Laps Later Denny Hamlin blew a tire as the Race Leader and ended up on a Stretcher in the Back of the EMT.
It's going to be a demolition derby... I can see there only being 10 cars or less on the lead lap.
Couldn't practice they almost ran out of tires remember saving money comes first
As a William Byron, I understand why he was as upset as he was. But the way he took it out on Hamlin was not the way he should have handled it.

I have a Texas track layout reconfiguration idea:
- Curve the backstretch similarly to Chicagoland
- Make turns 3&4 shorter slightly, but progressively banked in a similar way to Homestead
- Turns 1&2 would be like New Hampshire, Bristol, and Kansas: In the way of Kansas, it would be progressive banking with multiple grooves with various banking; like Bristol with the top being pretty banked but narrow, and the bottom groove would be flatter than it is now and similar to New Hampshire.

Scott miller is a lier too
My playoff format: it’s not win and your in and only the top ten make it.
I don’t understand how Goodyear nor nascar never thought these teams would run so much camber on an independent suspension car
