I looked at this, but bought the UV9PX instead and just opened up the GMRS frequencies on Chirp. It's an outstanding Radio and I see the same performance you see on the video. I put a GMRS antenna on it and I use it just about every day. When I get my HAM I'll start using it for that too.
I think everyone's first radio (including myself) was a Baofeng UV5R! I have a lot of radio testing videos on here. An easy upgrade on the wallet would be the Tidradio H3, or jump right into the big dogs and get an Wouxun KG-uv9px / 9gx or the Wouxun Q10g/Q10h.
@FirstUnitedTactical i was expecting the super high end to cost 500 plus. I was happy to see the wouxans are under 200 so i will hunt around and order a set of some kind soon. Itll be my late Christmas gift as i didn't have anything on my list this year lol
@holdfastjoe8841 keep in mind both the Q10G and the UV9GX also come in HAM versions that can be unlocked for GMRS use, and now operate on lots of frequencies. I'm just saying.
I have this radio and the px and I have to say, I've been really pleased. If I had to chose one, since I'm ham licensed I'd go with the px and open the gmrs freq with chirp. But, if you are gmrs only, the gx is a solid solid radio. I have talked to a repeater in our area at 38 miles. It had some static etc but it held the repeater and everyone was able to understand me fine.
I agree 100%. My newest video (uploaded) a few days ago had the 9gx as the base unit and it was so much stronger than my normal H8. Watch it to see what I'm talking about. It's crazy how much better the quality is!
I will definately do that. I wanted to get the budget radios out of the way first. What's funny is I was using my 9Gx as the base unit for the repeater. Normally the H8 has me about 5 miles out for a good "average" signal, but this 9Gx pushed me out to 8! Everything I tested sounded awesome at 5 miles and it didn't show anything different between them... I guess I will have to get another top notch radio to use as a base!
I’m sure some of those federal channels are digital and encrypted. The “wireless microphone” frequencies are for wireless stage mics that you might see singers/mc’s/speakers of the house, etc. using.
Amazing video once again sir 👏. I've had my eye on this exact radio. I've been happy so far with the tidradio h3 gmrs but definitely would like to upgrade. Keep up the great work 👍
Have a 916 being delivered this week. I researched the wouxun handhelds, and I like this one best. Other videos say the same thing, audio on 916 is the best. Loaded with extra channels. Will TX and RX the same as other Wouxuns. Not difficult to program or use.
It should be the same since they both are superheterodyne. I'm guessing if they aren't, it's the antenna difference. The 9GX just has more bells and whistles. I will send an email over there and ask. I will be back in touch tomorrow.
So Mark at Better Safe Radio replied back to my email. Check this out!!!! "They are not the same, but they are both superhet receivers and the audio on the 916 is actually even cleaner, in my opinion. The 916 sounds phenomenal and while it’s puts out a little less power than the UV9-series (usualy), it doesn’t make much difference and it definitely gets the job done, and it’s of course much more affordable if someone is looking for just a solid GMRS radio with some basic UHF scanning. the battery life is also great (no auto-drain either) and the standard LCD is easier to see in bright light. It’s really a great deal and sadly not many people know about the 916 yet. The new version just released a week or so ago includes a USB-C battery now also, for the same price." So, looks like the 916 is a top notch radio for that price!
Thank you for your video and the coupon code. I was able to get my radio use a few days ago, and yes, definitely it’s a better radio. Thanks to you and your video I decide to acquire it
@@FirstUnitedTactical Thought I posted this reply yesterday but don't see it.. go figure. From the BSR site: NEW Features (Compared to the UV9G PRO) • 3 New Dark Color Screen Modes (Day 1, Day 2 & Covert) • New Priority Channel Quick-Jump Feature (for instant Emergency or Favorite Channel use) • Extended 1.25m “220 HAM Band” RX Range (down to 219 MHz) • Roger Beep (on all freqs. except the repeater inputs) • Bright Flashlight (new LED Lamp with tighter & brighter beam) • Stiff Knobs (to avoid accidental changes, can be loosened if desired)
@BusDriverBob well the only advantage I have over the G is priority jump. I use that all the time while scanning, but then again my go to repeater is also in the scan. Priority does have an annoying skip ecery 5 secs during Rx. I thought something was wrong, but BSR said thats the radio "steathly" scanning the priority channel while kistening to other freqs. I don't really use the dark modes during the day, the Classic white with blue font is the best. There's no activity on 220 out here so that's a no big deal. Doesn't sound like you need to upgrade at all to me. I would stick with the G.
Hey man! So when I get my HAM license I will. It actually resembles our old Fire Dept radios 20 years ago! That radio is more of a business style and not hobby, which is primarily what I do. I have no problem buying one ($69 on their site), but I'm not sure of the FCC rules on that frequency transmitting. It probably wouldn't be a big deal since I do tranmission testing way out in the country, and would not interfere with others communications. But, keep on mind I have viewers all over the world seeing these vids, which also means I would be recording myself breaking FCC laws.... I will look more into it and get back with you.
I wish the high capacity battery had a USB-C charge port. As it is, you need to use the cradle. There is a lower capacity battery that's USB-C capable, so hopefully this will extend to the larger battery at some point.
I will be running different antennas on it, but I have to order all new ones because it's a SMA Female radio. I only have the Nagoya 771g and two Smileys that I can use for now.
Nice video! enjoy the new GMRS. I am torn between the kg-uv9gx and 935g. Waterproof is a plus for the 935g more channels on the 9gx is a plus. I am hoping you can answer these questions. I emailed Mark and he didn't answer but suggested the 9gx instead. I have Sordin Supreme MIL CC Communication Headset I want to connect to either of these radios. Will it work? Ptt connection what attachment? male female? I am lost thank you
Let's see: Mark doesn't sell the 935g, so he will suggest the 9Gx. The 9gx is about $50 more than the 935g, but if you ask me, the upgrades and features internally are worth it. I also was on the fence when I got this one, but I figured if I'm already spending $150 on a 935, I may as well spend another 50 and get the gx. I am that way, though.... both are standard K connectors for mics. Yes. The 935 is a 66 rating and the 9gx us a 55, but they are both sealed enough normal usage wouldn't matter. I don't believe I would take either one white water rafting down the Colorado River! I believe I answered what you were looking for. If you order the gx, use the link in the description so I can get recognized for the "lead" please, and if u go with the 935g make sure it's the 935g PLUS. The plus has an easier repeater programming menu than the regular 935g. However, the 9gx is simple to program also, AND Mark has all those emergency channels installed. It would take anyone days and days to research all of them and program. I'm almost positive the 935 does not come with that, because that is a BSR thing, and he rocks! (No I don't know him personally, but he answers emails at all hours of the night and those other guys would never do that...) do your research before you buy and make sure you are getting what you want. $150-$200 isn't money to just kick around these days. Don't settle! Both companies will accept returns or exchanges, but you still have a (maybe) 10-20% restocking fee, and you also have to pay for return shipping. Just do your research. Oh, take a look at the UV9PX also at BSR, just for giggles! Maybe watch a video or two about unlocking it and unleashing awesome capabilities for a real SHTF type of incident. I hope this helps! Either way, they are both excellent internals and will be 100x better than the small budget radios, as you can hear in the video.
The next video will be aftermarket antennas. This test was done with antennas that came with the radios. It's to show everyone what they get out of the box without upgrading anything. Stay tuned for a good "Battle of the Budget Radios" video coming this next week.
@@FirstUnitedTacticalSounds great. I'm looking forward to your new content. I just watched your latest video. BTW I'm new to GMRS. How do you have your broadcast replay back to you?
@GODISSOVEREIGN1000 it's on the BetterSafeRadio website. The owner programs all of his radios with over 700 SHTF freqs. Its an added benefit from buying from BetterSafeRadio.
My current set up is the UV9Gx with a Smiley 5/8 Slim Duck 465 on it. When I have to head out into the country for work, I put a Nagoya 771g on. But, the factory antennas perform really nice, I just like to know I'm using an antenna that I actually paid for and it's not collecting dust!
I bought the KG-UV9G PRO, copied the CP then loaded into the KG-UV9D-MATE. The Mate is unlockable. Boom best of all things! Mate TX and RX Dual Band Transmission 144-148MHz VHF (FM TX) 420-480MHz UHF (FM TX) 7 Band Reception 76-108MHz (FM Radio) 108-136MHz (AM RX) 136-180MHz (FM RX) 230-250MHz (FM RX) 350-400MHz (FM RX) 400-512MHz (FM RX) 700-985MHz (FM RX) Oh, and it's 10 watts. Same meter you use.
@MH-5274 I believe 5 miles. I normally do 5 and 8. The 8 miles mark is a cow pasture and the 5 miles mark sometimes has a tall chain link fence in the background with a little shed in the middle of a field. The test was to show the quality from one to another though, bot how far you can talk. Everyone has a different range and obstacles to go through so I can't show this radio goes 10 miles or anything like that. There's always too many variables, even from morning to evening in my same spots, on the same day.
@@FirstUnitedTactical thanks have been watching a lot of your videos. Good info. started to get into this space. Just paid the $35 for my GMRS license but have not got the email back from the FCC with the license yet. There is a lot of radios out there to pick from. U talk about the TH-3 a lot for the price/performance but i saw the video on the Wouxun KG-UV9GX just sounds like a better built radio with more solid build. Have u tested the Midland GXT67PRO handheld? Thanks again.
@MH-5274 I haven't tested any Midlands. They are good, but they aren't American made either. The H3 is an awesome little guy, but.... if you decide to go with a Wouxun 9gx, I would get the 9Px which is an unlockable HAM radio. It's breaking "the rules", but in case of an emergency, you can talk to HAM repeaters with the same radio. The 9Gx is strictly locked to GMRS and the 9Px is 2/70/ maybe 1.25 and GMRS. I can't remember what all it transmits on, but you have additional comm frequencies if you find yourself away from GMRS towers.
I'm not too sure if I should give it out because it's for his customers that buy these radios. But, towards the bottom of the page where this radio is is where you will find different options for programming. It's one of those website links. Bettersaferadio.com, and then click either the UV9Gx or the UV9Px radio. Scroll down.
Would you need to purchase different antenna's in order to receive and listen to all of the different bands and frequencies programmed into the KG-UV9GX?
For the most part the antenna that comes with it will pick up 2m/7cm, GMRS and Weather. You should be able to pick up everything it can scan. I only listen to the ones I listed above. And, that antenna works extremely well on GMRS. If you decide to upgrade the antenna, get a Smiley from BSR, or Amazon, but it's not necessary. Wouxun makes awesome antennas, even at their "stock" lineup. That radio is ready to rock and roll as soon as it comes out of the box!
@@FirstUnitedTactical Thank you 🙏 for responding! Ok, excellent!!! I bought the radio from Mark using your affiliate link & it’s definitely a very nice radio. I still need to figure out how to operate the different settings such as turning off the automatic shut off feature and scanning multiple set frequencies. I’m still new to GMRS & radios but I’ve learned a lot from your channel and enjoy your videos! Please 🙏 keep up the great work!!!
@@uwayzofoster4753 It does so much I haven't even figured it all out yet! I do use the "channel group scan" quite a bit because I drive throughout the day into different areas that have different repeaters. Do you have Chirp yet? If not, watch my Chirp for Beginners to learn the basics. There's also Priority Channel, which is if you are scanning a group of channels or repeaters, and your "favorite" channel gets activity, the radio will immediately go to that channel. If you are scanning, and you hear a "skip" every 5 seconds, that means the priority channel is listening. To stop that "skip", turn off priority scan. That was a quick trick I leaned. The radio is a power house and will definately talk and receive great, and all that other stuff is just bells and whistles! I don't have an in-depth video on it, but there are some out there. Read the "manual" to get the basics on the menu options.
It is. That's the #1 downfall. I don't have an issue with it because all of our repeaters in San Antonio are linked, so I just stay on one channel and don't need to change channels. If you do need to change channels, cover it with your hand to help, or get under a tree or in the shade. It doesn't have the same screen as the Tidradios or Baofengs. To me, the power and able to Rx better is more important than a smaller, cheaper radio that doesn't perform as well.
@@FirstUnitedTactical / Thank you for getting back to me, the list I was referring to is the list you showed in the vid ,the s#it hits the fan scanner programing chart, I found it on the BSR and downloaded it .But thanks just the same and thanks for all the knowledge. I watch all your videos.
@@FirstUnitedTactical Hello First United tactical . I have a problem with the UV9GX and I'm thinking you may have the answer . I'm getting a FRQ OVER ( I think that is frequency overload ) while trying to transmit to another radio that I own ( a Yaesu VX-6 ) and I have no problem transmitting to the UV9GX however when I attempt transmitting too the Yaesu VX6 I get the FRQ OVER on the screen .I thought since the radios were in the same room that could be the problem, so I went outside like 50 yards away I get the same. Do you have any idea what the issue maybe? Thanks
@@FirstUnitedTactical well darn it. I've gotten spoiled by my Btech Pro, need nothing but my iPhone. And I've always got it on trips. I wish all could be programmed on iPhone.
@olegig5166 you don't really need to change programming on one if these radios. It stores 999 channels, and has channel groups to keep different cities or locations separate from "home" location. It's super easy to program these also on the front keys. I have 9 different sections if channels and frequencies in my Wouxun. 1. Home 2. Town 30 miles away 3. Antonio 40 miles opposite direction 4. City 5 hours away at daughters 5. City on coast 3 hrs away And so on.... When you get to those areas, just scan that group.
I’d like to see a similar comparison of GMRS radios but with them all using the Nogoya 771G antenna that’s optimized GMRS to eliminate the differences in their stock antennas as a factor. Then you’re just comparing radios. Maybe throw in the TD-H3, BF-F8HP, your Wouxun, etc…
Have you seen this one yet? It's just for budget radios mainly, but it will give you a good idea. ua-cam.com/video/T2vyv5-dulk/v-deo.htmlsi=INl-DXrGEA0LrLyj
Hey Nick. This is a second reply, so make sure you see the 1st with the video link. I understand a lot of videos you want me to do, but let me say this: you sound very intellectual, so you know it's against FCC rules to transmit GMRS freq's on a HAM radio like the 8HP. This is just a small example. In my handheld collection, I have: Q10h Q10g UV9Px UV9Gx Bao 8HP Bao 5g *new* Bao 5g Pro Bao 5g Plus Bao 5RH Bao 9g Tid H8 Tid H3 And obviously the Bao UV5R. No one will ever see me transmitting on a dedicated HAM Dual Band radio like the Q10h or 9Px because I don't have my Tech yet. All of my past and current videos only show transmitting on dedicated GMRS radios because if I pushed the button on a Bao 8HP, that's incriminating, and we don't want that! I get tons of request for videos, which I especially love field tests, and my new Field Strength Meter.... that thing is addicting when you have 30+ aftermarket antennas and all these handhelds! I'm still new to UA-cam, but videos are mostly uploaded 1 per week. I do everything I can to get requests in first. When someone says buy and test this antenna, I pretty much do it, with my own money because someone may introduce me to something I didn't know. Anyway, hopefully this didn't put you to sleep, and that video link will get you through until I can get a better one. I know what you are looking for when it comes to the Nagoya 771g. It's my favorite 15", even with maybe 10 others in the stack! Did you see my newest titled "Talk Farther"? It's all 771 antennas, but just one radio, which I believe is my Wouxun 9Gx... (I could be wrong)! Thanks for questions and requests.
@@FirstUnitedTactical Yes sir! Excellent field test video. Thanks for sharing. You’ll love this. You can increase your signal strength significantly on even the best antenna’s by attaching 25 cent “counterpoise” wire at the screw for connecting the belt clip if it’s grounded to your antenna. It’s also known as a tiger tale, rat tail. Could only find a few UA-cam videos on it but the ones that showed it with tests had impressive results. A guy even made a product out of it called ZipTenna. Turns out, Extra Class Hams know this as a radial. Adding a few of them increases the antenna’s power majorly. You can even add one or two cut to 1/4 wave length for each band you use connected to the same ground and the RF will naturally choose the correct length radials. Thick gauge speaker wire works well because you can make two lengths with each because each cord has two wires. If you wanted to make an eye catching thumbnail, about a 8 radials equally spaced pointed 45 degrees downwards is optimal. Test also show that thicker wire works a little better, which would help hold them at 45 degrees. I wouldn’t be able to resist clicking a video showing a guy with 12 radials on his HT to see the results. It would be cool to show this on your channel with same range tests on same antennas and radios.
@jamesmcfarland2636 Oh yes. When you get a higher quality radio it actually sends more of the 5w onto the frequency you are transmitting on. Some of the lower quality radios send out 5w, but it may only be 3w on the desired frequency, and 1w on the two frequencies upper and lower. For example: a lower quality radio "may" send out 3w on 462.625, and 1w on 462.600 and 1w on 462.650. If the receiving radio is on 462.625, they may only hear 3w of your tranmission. With a higher quality radio, like Wouxun, Midland, etc..., you are sending out more of a solid wattage on that particular channel. You get what you pay for, and it receives a better signal as well. Hope that makes sense.
@jamesmcfarland2636 go to Google and type in gmrs Wattage chart. FRS and GMRS share the same frequencies. The only difference is the wattage allowed when using them. FRS is like the camping walkie talkies you buy for $29 pair. GMRS radios are more powerful, and also able to talk on repeaters to be able to reach 50 miles or so in transmitting. You don't need a license for FRS, but you do need one for GMRS.
@FirstUnitedTactical those sell as grms but they really aren't than ? Sorry I'm asking so much, very limited info on it on Google, I think I got it now looking again.whats the range on these without a repeater if I had 2 ?
@jamesmcfarland2636 The Wouxun KG-UV9GX is a true GMRS radio. The main "way" it is a gmrs radio is because it is "repeater capable". FRS radios are not repeater capable, and they are capped off at 2w I believe. Anytime you see a radio that says channels 1-22 and repeater channels 23-30, you know it's a true GMRS radio. It's easy to get a license to transmit through the FCC, and it's good for 10 years, plus good for your entire family. No test, just credit card to FCC for $35 and your good in about 24 hours. I will look up the repeaters in your area. What city and state are you in?
I also have a UV9px. I think its the best bet in case of a dire emergency being able to transmit on all channels necessary to get and give information to others.
I just picked up the BTech GMRS Pro-enjoyed your video the other day praising it for its list of features. I haven’t taken it out to open areas to test it yet, so just a lot of static here in the city. Would love to see you including the GMRS Pro in your GMRS radio comparisons-also, with your selection of antennas. How does the GMRS Pro compare in performance to the Wouxun UV9GX? If the Wouxun is significantly better, I can see me swapping the BTech for it. As far as texting, I don’t have a group that I would text with, so I may have paid for something I’ll never use. Thanks for your video!
@dannymcneal Hey man. So, yes I can add it to some videos for sure. It's a good radio, but I'm not a fan of the "no buttons" design. But, yes it's a good one. I will say if all you want to do is talk and listen, and don't care about the bluetooth or GPS stuff, the 9gx or 9px is far superior. The Wouxun's (any I think) have a superheterodyne chip which acts as a filter for receive. All of these radios talk basically the same, but the Wouxuns receive better, especially far out in the country. Yes, it's a noticeable difference!

what's the best radio where I can scan and hear the most secret shit? lol I want to be able to hear gov, ems, etc. New to the radio genre and want the best thing out there. I hear some are 6 band, 7 band 8 band etc. I assume that means more things to listen to the higer the bands. So sir, what radio is the SHTF, Spy, cool mg radio that is the envy of all? lol I will take any suggestions. Top 3 picks? Anyone feel free to reply and leave a purchase link. Thanks
Hey Jason. The biggest answer to your question is you want an actual police scanner. You want a scanner that will listen to P25 channels. That's 90% of law enforcement. You can hear fire and ems all day long on VHF frequencies with any "dual band" radio, even the $20 Baofeng UV5R's. All of these radios are Analog, and Law has gone Digital in most cities now. You would need to create an account with Radioreference.com and go to your local area to see what those emergency frequencies are. No "normal Joe Blow" radio will listen to P25. You would spend $1,000 on average for a Kenwood or similar to get those channels. Look on Amazon (for starters) at Uniden Scanner. The only reason you would be spending ($500) on a Uniden Scanner is to pick up law enforcement. Keep in mind, just about all UHF/VHF (also called dual band) can listen to fire and ems. Typically fire and ems bands are VHF and located in the 154-155 Mhz range. Back in the good old days, anyone could hear law on these radios, but they went digital to slow down everyone listening. You can download the "Scanner Radio" app for free on your cell phone. From there, you can hear just about everything going on also. I get alerts for shootings, manhunts, kidnappings and all that stuff. It's free. Look for the orange background logo with a Grey radio, and on the radio screen, it says POLICE. Get that app.

@@FirstUnitedTactical thanks for the reply. I'll definitely look into that! Thanks
Another great video, thanks. I’d love to get this radio but, I really can’t spend the money for this radio, but, would the KG 916 be a good upgrade from my H3? Have had my extra class from ‘99, just getting into GMRS and really enjoying it. Thanks KC2DAT / WSBB982.
The 916 is a great radio, but the biggest downfall comparing the two is H3 can run 2/70 and GMRS, where the 916 is strictly GMRS. If you were to get the funds together in the future, get the KG-UV9PX, which is the dual band, but can be unlocked for GMRS. I really like Wouxun, but honestly, I wouldn't spend the money right now on a 916, instead, save for a couple more paychecks and then get the 9px. My coupon code will get a 7% savings, which drops to about $180 plus tax and shipping. Save your money and go for the GOLD! I have plenty of GMRS and Dual Band radios (unlocked), and I never leave my house with a strictly GMRS radio. You never know if "tomorrow" is "the day" and all comms are shut off... I want to be able to talk to every freq I can to get information and get back home. Don't get me wrong, GMRS is more popular around here than HAM, and honestly that's where I would start talking first, but why limit yourself if you are spending $200? If you spend a good chunk of money, add to it and get a Dual that can be unlocked. Which this all leads to a different radio, which is the Wouxun Q10H Dual Band (also unlock able), which has more features than the 9px, but yes, it's $229 I believe. I would stick with the H3 for now because you can receive and amazing amount of freq's (Rx and Tx), and that's the most important thing in the event of a catastrophe. Plus, keep this in mind, if you are in an area where you are talking on repeaters normally, the 916 won't really be an upgrade. Wouxun is a SuperHeterodyne radio, which filters more receive into a cleaner signal. That's where being radio to radio comms will really shine over the H3. I hope all this didn't confuse you anymore!
Read that super long reply first, but I just looked and the 9px is $185, then my code gets you 7% off, taking the subtotal to $172.05, which is super low for this radio. Read the other reply also though for my thoughts on your situation.

Great info!

This is that video. It has nothing to do with a 9gx, but I mention how I had to gonout to 8 miles away compared to my normal 5 mile mark with tge H8!
Great video. Please do some tests with your favorite antennas on the GX. Thank you.
The “wireless microphone” frequencies are for wireless stage mics that you might see singers/mc’s/speakers of the house, etc. using.

Thanks! Yeah, the H3 is a favorite of mine, but this does perform better. But there is a definite price difference!
Have a 916 being delivered this week. I researched the wouxun handhelds, and I like this one best. Other videos say the same thing, audio on 916 is the best. Loaded with extra channels. Will TX and RX the same as other Wouxuns. Not difficult to program or use.
In my opinion, you can't go wrong with an Wouxun product!
Great video, great radio. Would like to see video on Wouxun kg 916. Thanks.
The new version just released a week or so ago includes a USB-C battery now also, for the same price."
So, looks like the 916 is a top notch radio for that price!
Thank you for your video and the coupon code. I was able to get my radio use a few days ago, and yes, definitely it’s a better radio. Thanks to you and your video I decide to acquire it
I'm glad you decided to go for the GOLD! It's an amazing radio! Wouxun makes great products.
Good video. I have the non-X version of this radio and love it. I did swap out the antenna but didn't really need to.
Honestly I don't know the difference between the 2. I also have the Smiley 5/8, Smiley Super Stick and the Nagoya 771g. Performs awesome!
@@FirstUnitedTactical Thought I posted this reply yesterday but don't see it.. go figure. From the BSR site:
NEW Features (Compared to the UV9G PRO)
• 3 New Dark Color Screen Modes (Day 1, Day 2 & Covert)
• New Priority Channel Quick-Jump Feature (for instant Emergency or Favorite Channel use)
• Extended 1.25m “220 HAM Band” RX Range (down to 219 MHz)
• Roger Beep (on all freqs. except the repeater inputs)
• Bright Flashlight (new LED Lamp with tighter & brighter beam)
• Stiff Knobs (to avoid accidental changes, can be loosened if desired)
@BusDriverBob well the only advantage I have over the G is priority jump. I use that all the time while scanning, but then again my go to repeater is also in the scan. Priority does have an annoying skip ecery 5 secs during Rx. I thought something was wrong, but BSR said thats the radio "steathly" scanning the priority channel while kistening to other freqs. I don't really use the dark modes during the day, the Classic white with blue font is the best. There's no activity on 220 out here so that's a no big deal. Doesn't sound like you need to upgrade at all to me. I would stick with the G.
Just order mine yesterday, looking forward to testing it out. Ordered a few extras as well.
It's a solid radio. Major difference in TX and Rx compared to the budget radios!
Brother, great video. Can you review retevis rt29? I'm using it for my local repeater, and it works great !
Your the best. Just received mine and its awesome!!
So how about a two week update? With all the radios I have, this is still my number one!
Absolutely love mine!

I wish the high capacity battery had a USB-C charge port. As it is, you need to use the cradle. There is a lower capacity battery that's USB-C capable, so hopefully this will extend to the larger battery at some point.

Nice video! enjoy the new GMRS.
Sorry I missed some of your questions. David nailed it below about the PRO and GX being superhet and pre-programmed and all the other bits. :) Cheers!
I want to see that test done with the same antenna.
The next video will be aftermarket antennas. This test was done with antennas that came with the radios. It's to show everyone what they get out of the box without upgrading anything. Stay tuned for a good "Battle of the Budget Radios" video coming this next week.

great radios, i want to carry these in my shop
I looked into becoming a dealer briefly. You can actually go online and fill out the dealer request form.
What was the range that u where at when u did the test?
I can't remember what all it transmits on, but you have additional comm frequencies if you find yourself away from GMRS towers.
on the video at about 4 minutes and 50 seconds you show a PDF list of frequencies. Where did you download that from?
I'm not too sure if I should give it out because it's for his customers that buy these radios.

How is the screen visibility outdoors in sunlight? I keep hearing it's really hard to see.

@olegig5166 you don't really need to change programming on one if these radios. It stores 999 channels, and has channel groups to keep different cities or locations separate from "home" location. It's super easy to program these also on the front keys. I have 9 different sections if channels and frequencies in my Wouxun.
1. Home
2. Town 30 miles away
3. Antonio 40 miles opposite direction
4. City 5 hours away at daughters
5. City on coast 3 hrs away
And so on....

Hey Nick. This is a second reply, so make sure you see the 1st with the video link.
I understand a lot of videos you want me to do, but let me say this: you sound very intellectual, so you know it's against FCC rules to transmit GMRS freq's on a HAM radio like the 8HP. This is just a small example. In my handheld collection, I have:
Q10h
Q10g
UV9Px
UV9Gx
Bao 8HP
Bao 5g
*new* Bao 5g Pro
Bao 5g Plus
Bao 5RH
Bao 9g
Tid H8
Tid H3
And obviously the Bao UV5R.
Love my q10g
Hey bud! It's been a while.... yeah the Q10g is an awesome radio. This one is slimmer and not as bulky, but yep, the Q10g is a monster radio!
Can it transmit 5w on GMRS?
@FirstUnitedTactical how does the 2m rule work vs these ? Is what I don't understand I read 2w limit than I read 5w on these
@jamesmcfarland2636 go to Google and type in gmrs Wattage chart.
UV9P is what I have ... It is open
Thanks
$185 is a lot of money for s radio that won't do HAM transmissions. But I guess it's cheap for a scanner.
