This is probably the cleanest recording I have ever heard. All notes in all registers have the same energy and tone qualities. Not a single note was sacrificed for volume. Very well done!
Everything should be recorded from right in front of the trombones. I actually tanked an all Northwest seating audition once so I could be in the back of the Viola section for Mahler 1 and be right in the guts of the brass 😂
This is something that's made me realize that I adore the sound of the bass trombone. All the aggression of a trumpet, the deep sound of a tuba mixed in. It's fantastic!
Thank you Tyler! Kleinhammer used to call the bass trombone the “furnace” of the brass section, when we heat up, so does everyone else! Fountains is the perfect example of that
While Euph was my major instrument, they don't use them in jazz...so I always played bone for that. I was nowhere near as talented on trombone so I "accidentally" got to play bass trombone for a couple semesters of jazz lab. BEST ACCIDENT EVER! When you want pretty....Euph is awesome...when you want to aggressively slap someone in the face with a low note....nothing beats bass trombone! No other instrument has made me WANT to pass out for lack of lung capacity! \oo/ \oo/
@@mikeszabo5631 have you ever played a cimbasso? I thiink they sound better than tubas and would probably sound really good played by a bass trombone specialist.
Absolutely incredible playing from you, the low brass section, and the orchestra. Easily the best precision and volume I've heard from the bass trombone, it was a privilege to listen to you play!
This is the best recording I have found. The thing that stands out to me is how well you can blend with the tuba, usually people overplay and drown out the tuba but you are clearly quite good at adjusting your dynamics to what is appropriate everyone else's playing.
My friend happened to show me this piece about a month ago and I can't stop practicing it, the low notes, the rhythms, everything about it is just crazy. It blows my mind every time I listen to this recording of it and makes me want to practice more and more. Can't wait to get this piece down.
Great job! That piece takes a lot out of the trombones. Last time I played it, the conductor for an encore repeated this movement, which practically murdered us!
I stumbled upon this video just over a month ago and I am not bluffing when I say that I have watched to it every single day after first stumbling upon it! I can't say thank you enough times!!!
I am absolutely astonished by this excerpt and it makes me really wanna play bass trombone or at least trombone. Ive watched this at least 50 times lol

Haven’t commented even after all this time, but I’ve watched this dozens times over and I can’t get enough of it. This is so tidy, and I’ve been working to get my sound this clean. Hoping to use this piece for my university auditions in a few weeks. Thank you so much for the inspiration ✨
Wow. Just wow. Such astonishment from the playing. Pretty much flawless, I must say, you should get a ton of views, likes, and subscribes, because of how well you play.
mike, you sound incredible. thank you for sharing! I getting back in to bass bone after a decade break from a professional career, and you are an inspiration. thank you boss!
As a bass trombonist myself I can point out one thing He sits into the tubas sounds so well until he plays the famous excerpt but even then he plays so beautifully This piece destroys trombonists as it’s so demanding for us trombonists but it’s so damn fun to play and beautiful it’s worth it Love from Sweden
Thanks very much! Yes that’s right, I do lay back until the melody starts in the bass line. That way you give extra impact and meaning to the line and aren’t over playing the less important bits
Holy crap! You are an incredible bass Trombone player but id also like to give a shout-out to Tim Buzbee for being one of my all time favorite players! I wish I had more recordings of him on his big Tuba and in general! Anyways, my dude, your sound is so clear and crisp, it just cuts through the orchestra! @@mr.fordnite1909 im confused? This excerpt had a ton of both high and low dynamics, and the original commenter never even mentioned high dynamics

I agree. I sound good in person, but not on my iPhone. Haha

Thanks!! Although I doubt many bass trombonists could overblow Tim! 😀
Rule number 1. The Tuba and bass trombone should never be playing louder than each other
You can never really drown out a good tuba player
Tuba and bass trombone is the best orchestral duo ❤
Magnificent sound and precision
