watched your interview of the Sgt. Major of the Marine Corps. one of the best Marine interviews iv'e ever seen so well done devil dog.
I am also a Former SSgt. of Marines and always a Marine now just not wearing MAR-PAT
I enjoyed this Interview alot it brings back Memories I served from 1985-2006 I have the National defense with a star (service during Desert storm and G.W.O.T.) Cold war vet. Defense of Korean D.M.Z. etc.. etc..
but I love the Humility displayed here about all M.O.S.'s are Marines 1st. I remember when Women Marines didn't have to qualify with the rifle and pistol etc.. the thing that changed that was that a Marine who was competing for promotion Lost to a Female Marine and he did a request mast saying "WHY DO THEY AUTO-MATICALY GET GRANTED THOSE POINTS THAT WE MALE MARINES HAVE TO BATTLE FOR FOR MARKSMAN- SHARPSHOOTER OR EXPERT RIFLEMAN-" that some Marine Corps History for you.. ultimately Women Marines were held to the same standard as Male Marines. which is a good thing not a bad thing. it's just like Sgt. Major blacks wife said "GIVE ME THE OPPORTUNITY- and the rest is up top me but DO NOT DENY ME THE OPPORTUNITY"
I was an 0811 Cannoneer Field Artillery but i also was a MMAIT and P.M.I. {range coach} and instructed the color guard in my battalion as well as I wore other hat's
i Hate that I knew Marines who have taken their Lives, I hate that the most.
alot of hard memories but many many good memories as well.
I'LL ALWAYS be Proud of the fact that I was, and am, and will always be a UNITED STATES MARINE.
    Sincerely SSgt. Bryan Calhoun USMC
    Semper-fidelis.

That Marine he was talking about was Kevin Cueto. He was my best friend. I volunteered for the II MEB Task force leatherneck and I ripped out as he came in. I had order to drill instructor school and would talk to him on Facebook during that time. He messaged me once and said “man it’s getting real bro, we lost our first Marine today.” Turns out that first Marine was Lcpl Bailey, my brother good friend in marine boot camp. about 2 months later before I checked in his brother messaged me and said “hey man you need to call my mom, it’s about Kevin.”
My heart sunk. Felt like the blood left my body. Went cold, I had a bad feeling. So I walked into my room, called his mom, and just pure darkness on the other line. His mom was suffocating on tears trying to tell me “they killed him, they killed him, they killed my boy, they killed little Kevin.” Man I collapsed on the floor. Lost control of myself for a moment, my wife tried to help me but I just needed time. I was so effing mad at Afghanistan and the whole thing. I ended up going to his funeral before I checked into DI school and did 7 cycles down there in San Diego. I told each platoon Cuetos story before they graduated.

Solid interview. Worth the watch. You asked really thought provoking questions. Kept the conversation very candid the whole time. I think conducting this interview timed specifically at this point in his career was a win in and of itself. Appreciate the content 👍🏼

He didn't answer exactly answer why scout snipers or the tanks were eliminated. The next Commandant could bring back both programs, of course. A new much smaller Army tank is coming out---which could be great for the Marines too. The old tank was huge and not a great fit for the Marines.

My thoughts are that he supports the Commandant’s mission. He wouldn’t say if he disagreed or not. That’s not his role. Thanks so much for watching! We appreciate it.

hand picked to push the CMC party line. once an asset is gone, and the tools the asset needs are out of TOE and stock, the ability to gwt them back is a a costly process.

Marines specialized as Snipers is necessary, we are all trained as riflemen but snipers who go through specialized training and maybe a little inter unit training would be helpful. I was a machine gunner and a field radio operator. Those are a little hard to hide as a sniper but training specialized training fit other MOS’s would be helpful for that machine gunner to know. I think Carlos Hathcock’s MOS was MP but he’s known as being a sniper, there’s a picture of him making a shot with a 50 cal machine gun and a scope, I joined in 1990. Stick with Chesty Pullers quote was New breed? There's not a damn bit of difference as long as it's the Marine breed." Women can shoot the same as men, I learned in welding men have a natural slight shake that would also affect the marksmanship. I wish I could have stayed in after head trauma I found out I would have seizures the Marine Corps said thank you for your service. The army said I could join up with them. Then after my MRI came back we found out I had multiple sclerosis and I got the same message from the army. It took my wife 25 years to get me to be seen by the VA they said I am 90% disabled. thank you for your service. Semper Fi Sgt. Major

Served w/ SgtMaj Black as an 0331 in 3/5 Wpns 1992-93, also during those years played full contact football w/ him...Marine was a beast back then and now...As a young LCpl all of us under his charge knew he was destined to be right where he is today...Marine was always serious and always intense...It was awesome serving w/ him...He certainly shaped my 20 yr Infantryman career no doubt and was/is a great role model for many...

First time I've seen the podcast and I was drawn in to it by the title of this episode, which I believe was misleading after watching from start to finish. The interview was fine, but it should have been titled, "SgtMaj Black talks leadership and shares war stories." The title led me and my coworker (a former scout sniper and SS PLT Cmdr) to believe he was going to dive into the specific reasons that snipers would no longer be organic to the battalion, or the reason behind the divestment of tanks, not just a simple metaphor about flintlock rifles and no follow up to that. Also, while I sympathize with his greatest failure, the title led us to believe that he would be speaking about serious leadership issues at the highest levels of command, whether it had to do with the botched withdrawal a couple summers ago or TM2030 and the recruiting crisis that many believe is partly due to the vaccine mandate. I would have been really interested to hear if he believes the next CMC will continue to push FD2030 or if he believes he will change course, which many, many retired Generals (including very recently retired Generals) recommend doing. This was mostly fluff, which I get since he is still sitting in that SMMC chair, but there are many real Marines who care about these issues and not a single one was really addressed with any depth or insight.

ALL the changes under Berger are about $$$$$$ and how to keep USMC budget flowing and growing. Gotta make the Chinese "threat" 20 feet tall to keep that DoD budget increasing...just like they did with the former Soviet Union. Turned out USSR was a third world country with nukes. Same shit now. Plenty $$$$$$ for guns and max generals and think tanks and all the related expenses (flyovers at NFL games, parades, etc.) ...but US cannot afford to fund Social Security, Universal health care, Affordable college education, etc. Sad.

Yeah...BIG issue. How many TGs are there in the USMC? In the US military? Do they scare you? Christian nationalists and White Supremacists and republicans are MUCH more of a threat to America than TGs. Turn off Fox and Deathsantis --- they just make you dumber than you already are...if that's even possible.
