I served in the Marines from 1969 to 1972 during the Viet Nam era. I came home in '72. Thirty years later, in 2002, I had a son who was a senior at the University of Alabama, studying history. He came home one day and said: "Dad, thanks for serving!" He was the FIRST PERSON who had ever said it to me in 30 years!!
Let me be the second one. From one Marine to another, Thanks for your service.
I was in the Army in 1985. Thank you both for your service!
as a fellow marine, i also thank you. i had a grand father that was a marine, he also served during Vietnam. he never talked about it when i was younger. once i joined, he opened up to me a lot more. i may have not been through war, but marines will always have that connection even if you just met. that’s the comradery and brotherhood that is engrained in us. i can’t even imagine how it is going through something like ‘nam but i know as a marine it is our job no matter your MOS. we always take care of those next to us. semper fidelis devil dog. thank you for your service.
Thank you, sir.
@@darkstar55087 Thanks! When I talk about things to people, I always tell them (tongue in cheek) that the number one thing ingrained in us was: "You DO have permission to die, marine, but you DO NOT have permission to leave your post!"
my dad was a Vietnam marine, served from 1960-66. he died in 2015 and he told me that if i didn't get him a marine corps burial he'd come back and haunt me lol miss that guy
So... did he get one?

As a paralyzed US Army Veteran, it may not be alot but I salute and respect all of the US Marines. They are always the very first to deploy so they definitely have earned the respect. My grandfather was a US Marine in the Pacific Theater in WW2. He kept his uniform after the war. He never spoke much about the war, only that it's one of humanity's worst deeds.
Thank you for your service to our country... I am not a military member but a civilian... You have made your mark on history as well... You will live in forever in the documented history that everyone future can look back and read your name amd wonder... What this guy did who was his family amd so on

I hope you are no longer paralyzed, my friend. I'm Steve Dow. Sergeant E5 Usmc. Semper Fi. Be safe my friend.
To all my fellow devil dogs, I thank you. Serving past or present. You know what they say, once a Marine always a Marine. You earned it, no one can take that away from you.
We’re all links in a chain. In combat or peacetime. Every Marine is built on someone who came before. Our allegiance is to that history. We are a legion and that’s what makes us.

I served in our beloved USMC from June 1987 until January 1993, I left Boot Camp in 21 Aug 1987, Platoon 1062 San Diego, CA. In 1997, I went back in to the USMCR, in Miramar, CA. In Oct 2000, I went to GA, where I started in Dobbins, ARB. In Feb 2001, I had a Stroke, and heart surgery, so I had to finally leave the Corps, Ooh Rah, Devil Dogs! Semper Fidelis
I was in boot camp Dan Diego pot.2062

What a great tribute to the USMC. I'm a USAF vet, served with Marines. Have always had a great respect for them. This history is spectacular! Semper fi, brothers & sisters. Thanks.
The Few the Proud, the Marines! Salute!
Great video, very well done. Thanks for the work put into it. One constructive comment, twice the narrator mentions "The Marine Corps Hymn" incorrectly. The correct title is "The Marines' Hymn". I learned this the hard way from then Major General Charlie Cooper, the CG of MCRD San Diego. As a Major, having graduated from MCRD PISC, OCS, TBS, and AWS, I had never learned the lesson he taught me by exploding over his desk during a briefing when I mistakenly called it The Marine Corps Hymn - Twice! Lesson Learned and never forgotten. Pass the Word.... Semper Fidelis!
CO, CO, don't you know?
They don't make Marines at Quantico.
My husband is a USMC combat veteran an 0311 grunt who served from 2002 to 2006 3rd battalion 2nd Marines Lima Company (3/2 Betio Bastards) he followed in the footsteps of his late father who also served in the USMC from 1968 to 1972 as a Helo crewman. Marines are definitely a different breed of warrior.
Met many when i served in a nato country , good people they are and dedicated ,hardworking troops.

God bless U.S. Marines corp and the us navy
Remember everyone deployed. God bless you all. 🇺🇸 All the way.
The United States 🇺🇸 Marine Corp have a truly amazing and rich history, and whilst I, as a British military veteran and an Englishman, obviously don’t like the defeats the Marines inflicted upon my country I also respect their achievements during the United States and Corps formative years, years that saw so much turmoil and conflict, but also saw the beginnings of the corps widely held respect from many other nations including the United Kingdom, respect that was and is well deserved, without the Marine Corp so many of the conflicts the United States were involved in could easily have seen a very different outcome. Thanks for sharing this excellent, interesting and informative documentary with us all. 😀👍🇬🇧🏴🇺🇸🇺🇦
Thank you for sharing this. This Marine Approves, Semper Fi!
How did you miss Major General Smedley Butler! He is also a two time MOH recipient.
Awesome! At Boot Camp when we'd hit the rack, we had to say in unison, "Good night Chesty Puller, wherever you are."
He is pictured at 49:40 (although that photo is not when he was in GTMO) the photo is from his time during the Vera Cruz or Hatian campaigns.

Thank You for your service sir!
And i will add thank you for your great service!
This was so awesome! It takes me back bootcamp where I initially learned this. Ooh-Rah
Need to check the history on the leather collar! In boot camp (a lot of people don't realize this) YOU will learn U. S. Marine Corps. history. The leather collar was not just for looks as detailed in this video. The leather collar had a combat role as well. It was issued to Marines aboard ships (mainly the reason) to protect the jugular area of the neck and extended across the top of the shoulders. It was a form of armor against sword and knife, hand-to-hand combat at close quarters. This information is what I remember from boot camp March to June of 1987, P.I. Plt. 1045.
This is great!
Shipping to bootcamp in October, really good vid! Can’t wait to be apart of this brotherhood
How did it go?

Ooorah!! 💯🔥🇺🇸
Don't call Marines "soldiers"... tactically yes ish, but don't, they're Marines. Every Marines is a rifleman, every officer is taught at least platoon infantry leadership. Pops flew F-4s in VMFA-212, but if told to grab an M-16, get your Squadron in order and hold this position, Aye aye Sir.
They shouldn't take offense to being called a soldier. A skilled warrior is how I define soldier.
The United States May Not Fall! 🇺🇸✊🏻
Wow no mention of Smedley Buttler interesting.

Army Infantry represents the backbone of the US Army.
@Sergio Romano HORSESHIT! The Backbone of The United States Army is the non-commissioned officer! Sergeants, Corporals, First Sergeants, and Sergeants Major actually RUN and SUPERVISE the front lines of The United States Army. The Marine Corps was recommended by General George Washington who was a Virginia State Militia Lieutenant Colonel, in other words, AN ARMY NATIONAL GUARD OFFICER!

We the Marines are always doing something first, why? because we can.
It would be nice if you the Marine Corporation would pronounce Corps. the correct way instead of "Core"...Also be nice if you all would stop trying to convince the sheeple into believing the Marine Corporation is fighting for their worthless asses and not for yourselves and the people who own the corporations that own you...That would be "super hero" type shit to people who live in reality and not sheeple who live in fantasy land...Then we could all love happily ever after..The End

I’m just a little turned upside down or rather confused as I woke up in bed 1st thing checked UA-cam and so there goes the US Marines, however, correct me if I’m wrong on the established date” Marines 1775 ?” Isn’t the US Army was established by that year? Or else whomever made this on youtube probably a wannabe. Sooner or later someone would teach this fella a lesson
@Uncle Toucher The Continental Army was established on June 14, 1775 with Virginia Militia Lieutenant Colonel George Washington being appointed as the new commander who was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General. The Continental Navy was established on October 14, 1775 and the Continental Marines on November 11, 1775. The first Colonial Militia was established in 1636 in the Massachusetts Colony which has since evolved into the National Guard
