I served in the Marines from 1969 to 1972 during the Viet Nam era. I came home in '72. Thirty years later, in 2002, I had a son who was a senior at the University of Alabama, studying history. He came home one day and said: "Dad, thanks for serving!" He was the FIRST PERSON who had ever said it to me in 30 years!!

as a fellow marine, i also thank you. i had a grand father that was a marine, he also served during Vietnam. he never talked about it when i was younger. once i joined, he opened up to me a lot more. i may have not been through war, but marines will always have that connection even if you just met. that’s the comradery and brotherhood that is engrained in us. i can’t even imagine how it is going through something like ‘nam but i know as a marine it is our job no matter your MOS. we always take care of those next to us. semper fidelis devil dog. thank you for your service.

As a paralyzed US Army Veteran, it may not be alot but I salute and respect all of the US Marines. They are always the very first to deploy so they definitely have earned the respect. My grandfather was a US Marine in the Pacific Theater in WW2. He kept his uniform after the war. He never spoke much about the war, only that it's one of humanity's worst deeds.

Great video, very well done. Thanks for the work put into it. One constructive comment, twice the narrator mentions "The Marine Corps Hymn" incorrectly. The correct title is "The Marines' Hymn". I learned this the hard way from then Major General Charlie Cooper, the CG of MCRD San Diego. As a Major, having graduated from MCRD PISC, OCS, TBS, and AWS, I had never learned the lesson he taught me by exploding over his desk during a briefing when I mistakenly called it The Marine Corps Hymn - Twice! Lesson Learned and never forgotten. Pass the Word.... Semper Fidelis!

The United States 🇺🇸 Marine Corp have a truly amazing and rich history, and whilst I, as a British military veteran and an Englishman, obviously don’t like the defeats the Marines inflicted upon my country I also respect their achievements during the United States and Corps formative years, years that saw so much turmoil and conflict, but also saw the beginnings of the corps widely held respect from many other nations including the United Kingdom, respect that was and is well deserved, without the Marine Corp so many of the conflicts the United States were involved in could easily have seen a very different outcome. Thanks for sharing this excellent, interesting and informative documentary with us all. 😀👍🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇺🇸🇺🇦

Need to check the history on the leather collar! In boot camp (a lot of people don't realize this) YOU will learn U. S. Marine Corps. history. The leather collar was not just for looks as detailed in this video. The leather collar had a combat role as well. It was issued to Marines aboard ships (mainly the reason) to protect the jugular area of the neck and extended across the top of the shoulders. It was a form of armor against sword and knife, hand-to-hand combat at close quarters. This information is what I remember from boot camp March to June of 1987, P.I. Plt. 1045.

It would be nice if you the Marine Corporation would pronounce Corps. the correct way instead of "Core"...Also be nice if you all would stop trying to convince the sheeple into believing the Marine Corporation is fighting for their worthless asses and not for yourselves and the people who own the corporations that own you...That would be "super hero" type shit to people who live in reality and not sheeple who live in fantasy land...Then we could all love happily ever after..The End

I’m just a little turned upside down or rather confused as I woke up in bed 1st thing checked UA-cam and so there goes the US Marines, however, correct me if I’m wrong on the established date” Marines 1775 ?” Isn’t the US Army was established by that year? Or else whomever made this on youtube probably a wannabe. Sooner or later someone would teach this fella a lesson

@Uncle Toucher The Continental Army was established on June 14, 1775 with Virginia Militia Lieutenant Colonel George Washington being appointed as the new commander who was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General. The Continental Navy was established on October 14, 1775 and the Continental Marines on November 11, 1775. The first Colonial Militia was established in 1636 in the Massachusetts Colony which has since evolved into the National Guard
