Wow, great to see you do AWB. My late uncle was Molly Duncan the tenor sax player, sadly he died in 2019. They really were a great band, always loved the guitar playing of Onnie McIntyre and Hamish Stuart - super tight and funky.
I love that you cover EVERYBODY. I consider myself pretty well versed in music/guitar players, but you’ve exposed me to a ton of great stuff I wasn’t aware of. Thank you for all you do!
THE BEST guitar channel on the internet!! Another super cool lesson David. Thank you for all you do to make these lessons educational, interesting and entertaining! Well done.
Great vid. I wore out my 8-Track copy of the first AWB release back in the day Cut The Cake - 3:05 Person To Person - 5:50 Work To Do - 7:37 Got The Love - 9:22 Pick Up The Pieces - 13:20
Finally just checked Rubicon, the old band that Jack Blades an Brad Gillis were in before Night Ranger. Anyone checking out this video may be interested. LOL, who would of thought the guy on Speak of the Devil was plucked out of a Funk band.
How in the funk are you doing Dave? I absolutely love funk music! If it doesn't make someone move, then they're a vegetable! Great lesson as always. Thanks for the hard work you do to bring us this killer content!
You deserve far more subscribers than you have. Excellent work once again. I appreciate that, when seated, you’re one of the few that know the correct way to hold the guitar!😃👍🏼
Great lesson man! Thanks for sharing! Really love AWB’s brand of funk! Definitely gives you a case of “stank face” haha! Keep ‘‘em coming! Would love to see The Time featured. Jessie Johnson is a real beast! ✌🏻🎸🎶
Annie Lennox tells how as a teenager AWB was playing in her little town on the NE coast of Scotland. She got to see them a lot. When they came out they really were a class act. Sort of in that same style as Tower of Power. Great choice for a Late Nite Lesson. Always fun to play along . Thank you..
hell yeah I love lessons like this. I'm a rock dude, but these lessons from other styles and genre's are so helpful, I play and mainly write rock style music, but like you I listen to and try to learn as many different styles of music and have it filter back out in my own playing and compositions. Thanks 🙏🙏🙏 for everything you do. Peter Buck, REM can you do a chord play??? He and the band are very interesting,. not too much in the technical department but he seems to have the write line or progressions for capturing the right vibe/mood, kind of like a Steve Clark or Mike Campbell. Take care man can't wait to dig into this one
The Story I heard was that when they released their first album people thought it was James Brown. When they asked JB he said " no it's not me, it's a bunch of white guys from Scotland"
I'm a HUGE fan of AWB. 3 other really awesome bands you might want to also check out are Earth Wind & Fire, Tower of Power & of course James Brown. Great band choice, thanks.
Great lesson, from a 70s kid ,I kid you not ! Looks like you're using a PRS,but what are the pickups ? They look like they're modeled on DeArmonds......?
Bravo very well done my friend I'm a drummer and grew up playing AWB stuff you brought back some old memory's for me thank's for reminding me I'm old anyhow I'm a little late trying to learn to play guitar but I dig what your doing maybe I can learn to play a few songs before tip over new sub thanks.
I saw them in 1990 at Toads place in New Haven, CT. They and Tower of Power played there quite often. During the 80`s when I was a kid I was obsessed with funk. All my guitar jamming buddies were playing metal and I was funking out on my guitar. They would say, Ya crazy dude. 😂🤣
Great lesson is always, just wanting to know when doing funk are you using a thin pick or a thicker pick, Lots of funky rhythm going on fast and Spanky
i love Chris Cornell, he uses really unusual chords. "Euphoria Morning" album by him has amazing chord progressions. Also i love "Grace" album by jeff buckley. I would love to see Chris Cornell, jeff buckley, soundgarden videos by you.
I have read that James Brown did NOT like the name! As if they were killing it but saying only we are merely average. Like anyone can do this, can play this music. Just average white guys can do this easily. So maybe that's why he named his group the above average black band.

I saw AWB a few times with Malcolm "Molly" Duncan. He was great with Roger Ball. Saw them at Avery Fisher Hall, The Bottom Line etc. God Bless him.
I love that you cover EVERYBODY. I consider myself pretty well versed in music/guitar players, but you’ve exposed me to a ton of great stuff I wasn’t aware of. Thank you for all you do!
Play that funky music white boy 🤙😊
Exactly how I feel. He goes from radiohead to krokus in the same month
Saw Hamish Stewart play rhythm guitar for Mick Taylor at Iridium NY. Incredible. Each bar had umpteen chord shapes. What a pairing.
THE BEST guitar channel on the internet!! Another super cool lesson David. Thank you for all you do to make these lessons educational, interesting and entertaining! Well done.
Funk grooves on Saturday nite... fantastic
"Pick up the Pieces" 13:25 C-11#9 two guitar parts combined into one live, by David! Awesome!
Outstanding! Chord play is like a box of chocolates, you’ll never know what you’ll get.
AWB was as funky as anyone. One of the best. Excellent episode here.
Love the channel. One quick addition: “Work to Do” 7:28 is actually an Isley Brothers cover-AWB didn’t write that one, although they play it great.
More from "Pick Up the Pieces" 14:21 F Min 7 on Looper Pedal!
Nice one! The first pass presented is as stated demanding . Great practice material. Thank you!
“Everybody get Down … Get Funky”

Great stuff, David! Thanks! Love the James Brown tie-in. Thanks for sharing which effects are used, too!
Awesome Band. Good choice Dave. Thanks

NIce!
I grew up a VH nut, but always loved this band.
This band was effortlessly funky.
Even the guitar solo in "Work to do" is like a master class.
Great Lessons. You hit it right on the nailhead.
Really Enjoy it.

Good stuff Dave.
Skankin on the top strings.__. Love it brother., keep doing these vids. Love em
Can you please make a Playlist of all the funk lessons if possible, so that it's easy to find.
Their bassist later joined McCartney's band....it was a happy match.
The way you play it makes it sound so musical 🎵
11:04 with Bass played on Looper Pedal.
I will watch this if I ever decide to join a funk band.
The Story I heard was that when they released their first album people thought it was James Brown. When they asked JB he said " no it's not me, it's a bunch of white guys from Scotland"
Marc Ribot lesson next?!
I'm a HUGE fan of AWB.

Ditto to these but I'd also include Chic / Nile Rodgers
Is there a more diverse guitar teach on the interwebs than David Brewster? I say no.
David rules!
Digging it! Hey, how about some Mother's Finest?
You deserve an extra 3 million subscribers 😉😉

Get the Funk out !!! … another excellent chord play would be the Atlantic Rhythm Section … 😎

FUNKtastic! You nailed everything perfectly. ☝👏
Great lesson is always, just wanting to know when doing funk are you using a thin pick or a thicker pick, Lots of funky rhythm going on fast and Spanky
I love this video. I grew up listening to them and the ohio players, james brown, the sylvers.
i love Chris Cornell, he uses really unusual chords. "Euphoria Morning" album by him has amazing chord progressions. Also i love "Grace" album by jeff buckley. I would love to see Chris Cornell, jeff buckley, soundgarden videos by you.
Speaking of funk rock, what about Infectious Grooves?
Unlocking funk. Excellent.
This is how you get to Nuno Bettencourt from EVH.

And a three for all.
@@nick326697 I must of miss it, my bad. Thanks!
Skanky.... bro, killing me
Nothing average about dat white band!
