    "Very Awesome unit. Thanks Roland!"
    Feature:
    EQ color gragpic displays (and all controlls on graphic display) on the 19'' Samsung Syncmaster 906bw LCD wide screen monitor(monitor purchased separately) are spectacular, and a great visual aid if you are having trouble seeing data on other digital equipment having small data entry screens. The stock LCD is also larger than most other, and easily readable. All the channel routing, recording, faders, is easy to see and route by drag and drop mouse. WOW! The motorised faders move when you adjust faders with the mouse. The R-Bus AES/EBU and ADAT,SMPTE, and other available interfacing lets you connect to other gear. Good connectibility and compatability with other professional equipment.
    Quality:
    An just for the record, you do not have all this mouse power or quality on the AKAI DPS24 MKII, (which I returned to a different dealer, DEFECTIVE HARD DRIVE AND CRASHING, and of poor quality, cheap plastics, poor fit and finish, and made in China Not) The Roland has quality feel, quality fit and finish, and audio quality on the VS 2480CD gets a 10 for the money. Again, The GUI Mouse interface combined with a large 19'' widescreen LCD,and new Roland's new software make the Roland VS 2480CD a truely excellent recording machine.
    Value:
    There isn't a better value. With a large LCD monitor on this unit you will easily master this machine, save alot of time, frustration, and make top quality pro recordings. Get all the optional effects cards if you have the money. Stuff it full. Keep it, and use it till it just wears out. I love it.
    Desirability:
    Seeing the unit in a catalog doesn't cut it. When you see and hear this recorder with the Graphic LCD and mouse functionality, you will want this unit. I guarantee you will love it and keep it. The sex appeal of seeing this unit with a good LCD and good Studio Reference Monitor speakers will blow you and your friends away.
    Sound:
    The sound quality of the Roland VS 2480 is supurb, period. It records crystal clear and is very powerful, yet easy to use with the VGA monitor and mouse, which can drag and drop, cut and paste. This is an extremely good product for the money. Eq gragpic displays on the 19'' Samsung Syncmaster 906bw LCD wide screen monitor
    Ease of Use:
    No other studio in a box has the drag and drop GUI mouse, and this really gets you through the recording process visually,on screen, for the most part, not needing the manual to research every button. The patch bay on the LCD 19'' monitor lets you drag the channel fader "virtual patch cord" to wherever you want to patch it. All effects and functions are available on the LDC with the mouse. WOW! The new software is awesome and powerful.
    Support:
    I called Roland when I was familiarizing myself with the unit and the Roland rep walked me step by step to troubleshoot the problem, and it was a different connected device, not the VS 2480CD. Good, immediate support. Pro Tools Plug ins and other third party plug ins shows Roland's and third party's support the VS2480CD format. Rock Solid.
    Overall:
    I don't intend to replace this unit unless, I eventually could afford to start spending $250,000 or more for a full blown corporate recording facility. With all the virtual tracks and 64 channel playback, who needs more that that?, seriously. Take some music lessons and improve your playing technique instead, and make pro recordings on a roland VS 2480CD.

    I love my VS-2480. I still use it even thought I have a pro audio computer, audio interface etc. The vs2480 is great, no latency, excellent sound. Sounds a lot better than pro tools.

    These are such great machines. I have two(VS2000) connected together. The price drop in the used market is unreal. I detest computer set ups. So this was and has been perfect for me. The sound quality is excellent. The VS2000 does not use compression. The 2480 uses compression if you utilize all of the tracks. I don't know how Roland did it but their RDAC compression doesn't sound bad. Several professional recordings have been done on them. Too bad VSplanet is down.

    1) Look I am the dumbest person in the world to learn stuff like that, specially from the scratch! But I just dived into it man! I recall the day I got my two 2480s as if it were today! I didn't know even where the "turn on" button was! I remember telling my wife progressively: "Honey, I've already figured 3% of it!"... Two days later: "Honey, I've already figured 10% of it..." and stuff like that. I READ the manual a lot, and made a LOT of call to Roland. Months later, I finished an entire CD.

    @davidlanham99 I think the reason for that's because those instruments are hooked up to the Guitar Hi Z inputs. they give you a better sound signals for those sorts of instruments

    I have the Roland VS-2400CD, Roland VS-2480CD & Tascam SX-1LE. Of all the 3, SX-1LE is the winner for its sound quality and user-friendly interface. The Roland machines are more complex if u r a starter, but their portability come in handy for mobile applications. However, I've spent less and less time on these machines as computer-based DAWs have gained more attention with their endless capabilities & technological advances. Studio One, Cubase, Nuendo, Wavelab, Live, FL Studio are sum o my fav.

    It's ALL in ONE BOX thats what it does Audio & very well I had the VS 1680 used it for yrs till it got stolen. Never!!!! Had never had an issue not ONE fail not one glitch. To bad they quit making them @ the end they had the 3dr party plug in's from UAD...& the internal FX is 56 bit you don't get that in Pro Tools or any thing that I know of in a DAW , I've did commercials to Live bands, Albums on that little mach. & this mach has no compression on the Audio file the older ones did like mine did

    Does this lady do more presentations of the vs2480 on other aspects of using it. She would be good to take you from initial out of box to finish say a 12 track recording. I need to see exactly how to install Roland discrete drums and use them in a recoding.

    Go to Tick Bryan Band and check out some of my recordings on an 1880 I bought 6 years ago. It took me about a month to figure it out. Very frustrating. I use an out board cd recorder for my final mastering. I had to invent my own short cuts to navigate the thing. It has worked flawlessly the past 6 years. I upgrated to a 15 gig hardrive I bought off ebay. Great machine but hard to master.

  • @aanon2550

    Great machines, but if you actually saw her loading drum loops from disc, setting up the auto arrange, or saving anything, the demo would come to a grinding halt. So so slow.
    It's strange because the Akai product of the same era could switch between projects in roughly 2 seconds and require no saving before shutdown, not to mention scrolling waveforms in real time and doing sample level editing.
    Whatever. I love them both.

    Yes Go to vsplanet.com and download the program that does this. Load it to pc and then burn the files to disk. You can drop them into any computer daw, e.g., protools, sonar, reaper, etc. Great program written by some guys who wanted to be able to work with files on computer.

    When you say back up files,do you mean data?To my knowledge, you would need to get a hold of a VS unit to do anything with that info.So sorry to hear about that,it's bad enough to lose info...it's alot worse to have gear stolen.

  • @utubehound69
    @utubehound69 11 років тому +1

    Hey do you know how to convert VS audio files from VS-1680 backup files to wav. files so I can import them into Pro Tools , I lost my 1680 to theft.

  • @crosshairstare
    @crosshairstare 12 років тому +1

    Save your file as a data master(with music and mixing)and set it aside. Then,at anytime, you can go back and change anything-but before you do,LABEL YOUR CHANNELS, VTRACKS, SCENES, AND LOCATORS or you will get lost trying to where everything was-true,everything is saved,it so much easier to go back to a project that is labeled.
    I've had my 2480 since the day they came out,but I don't use samples,so the plug ins they use in the video are kinda foreign to me.Keep in touch,I hope this helps you...

      I have been using pro tools since 2001, version 5.1. Currently on 12.7. And after all these years I have spent way more than what one of these machines cost. They are cheap now on eBay. They have their limitations but, they are built for one thing only. You don't have to worry about keeping up with updates nor latency, I started my recording journey in a Roland vs 880ex. The vs2480 looks like a great machine for tracking. Mixing and mastering I would still prefer Pro Tools.

      Crazy isn’t it? I’ve been using Cubase with universal audio apollo and simply fed up with the latency issues and dropouts, sold that and have just bought one of these for £350, with great quality audio, upgraded it to a ssd card so it’s quicker, just gotta get the level 3 plugins! It’s limited but that pushes your creative side- simply amazing
