What a great machine, I just booted mine up from a 20 year sleep and it's really fun to use and learn again. The best thing about it is there's no ethernet or wifi connection, so you can stay focused on your music :).
what is it used for?
@@user-vg6qy8ep3d LOL! Recording and mixing.
i looked at this screen for 18 years every day.
I'm just as SLOW! How to record instrumentals from my dynosaur Esoniq workstation? Go to getting a Receiver, cassette tapes or I can save to cd rom & it won't mess up from playing it like a record player? Don't tell nobody I asked that! lol
We really take for granted microphone modeling (I still don't really believe in it), digital effects, and digital audio workstations in general. This was such a huge breakthrough for the home musician, that didn't want to be tethered to a computer tower. Or fiddling with ADATS / Tascam machines. Roland has always been a great company
To this day in 2023 The Roland VS machines make the new Tascam DP/24 look like a toy.. Roland packed all of the pro features in their machines.
Do I have to an oldshool receiver, double cassette tape deck & wire speaker monitors plugged into the roland digital multi recorder & a music esoniq work station to record instrumentals to practice to, instead of burning out the device on repeat play?
Glad you said that and I always believed that companies that came after Roland, gave you a board with nothing and then made you pay for the upgrades, the automation and it had to be Wi-Fi connected only. Roland gave you everything upfront and I always respected them for their work
Wished roland kept updating the vs series
The BEST upgrade is Bluetooth, Wifi & "Smart" features huh
I bought my first one new in 1997 /98 when they first came out . Then in 2008 I bought a used one to midi them up as one . I loved mine even though I’ve put them to bed for now. I bought a used VS 2480 and it’s my main recorder !!
Great overview. Thank you so much.
The roland 1680 does things modern day DAWs dont do
I just bought a used one ... I hope this will be easier use that than my old Roland VS880 was ... I took chance because of the display features...
Located in Cali by any chance? How to record instrumentals to practice, by any chance?
amazing engineering, still impressive.
i think the 5051 and the reverb hold up still.
I was thinking to get this to use in order to capture my songs from my synths to make a “live mixdown” and arrange on the fly. I dont have an audio interface with 8 ins so im recording each track one by one to day which is fine. but thought to try and arrange live to capture my gears timing and on the fly moves. Would this be a good idea? Im recording 16bit anyway to capture the 90s feel.
Anyone knows what is the name of the band or singer that did Take Me Away song for this Roland???
Hi , does anyone know if these shipped with the effects boards? I bought one and there arent any- was it an add-on?
Thanks!
When I bought mine new, it came with 1 board. I believe the second was an add-on. You should have 1. I'm sure you can scour the internet and find one if it doesn't for some reason.
Thanks, seems the default board got removed at some point. Who knows why...@@NoQualmsTheArtist
Too bad no midi smh😮
It has midi in and out ports in the back.
