+Christopher Harrison What an extremely narrow minded view. He also painted AND sculpted demon alien penises AND vaginas raping men AND women, But seriously, without him we would not have had the word biomechanical and it's art movement. The grunge look of the 90's. Every science fiction and horror story since 1979 has been a direct descendant of his vision.
I remember the very day in 1979 when I was a kid. Bored in an airport, our flight was delayed from Luton to Spain ( this was my first trip on a plane, so I was very excited). Then an announcement said our flight was delayed so to console me my father went and bought me a magazine. It was Omni, he bought it because he thought it had 'something to to with Star Wars' on the cover (I wasn't interested in Star Wars). So, utterly bored flicking through this magazine that really wasn't for kids... cigarette adverts and such, BOOM there was an image by Giger, a page from Necronomicon... I remember the thrill I got, literally a shiver, aroused, fascinated, and disturbed all at the same time... this was the day my imagination was struck by a bolt of lightning! Thank you 'Laker Airlines' and thank you H.R.Giger. 🏆🚀

He's so cool. humble and absolutely essential to my life as an artist. i am shocked that he has no scripted bullshit, just like heres my work and there you go. love it. true artist.
I was on a school trip three weeks ago, walking around that town and just happened to find the HR Giger place, and thought "hey, this looks kool!" and went inside. Things havnt been the same since. O.o Love him
The supreme irony and assholishness about that quote is that it's from a movie (Aliens of course) that HR Giger always felt personally slighted by, as he had basically been cheated out of participating in the sequel to the movie that he largely created in it's visual aspect (nobody bothered to notify him a sequel was being made). So yeah, this interviewer was a goof.
zipthepinhead Yeah, and in my opinion Cameron fucked the series up by creating the aspect of a queen instead of the xenomorph being a self replicating organism. Cameron has ripped off a WHOLE LOT of people.
TheVoiceOfTruth But the queen represented a weakness to me. A vulnerablility. For me the "unnaturalness" of self reproduction contributed to the alieness of the xenomorph
Fuzzy Wuzzy Yea but the whole Queen idea was just JC bullshit for the movie. The Alien was originally designed as an asexual creature that can self replicate as Fuzzy mentioned. Giger barely managed to even get recognition for the 'Alien' design thrown in at the end of the Aliens DVD - way to shit on the dude that designed your entire series premise lol. But if you read his Alien notebook/diary he had a massively hard time throughout the making of the first film dealing with the other 'artists' etc, so would have not wanted to go near another Alien movie after that experience lol. But yes - nice fail by the interviewer...little research next time chump lol.
Greg Murph Yeah, Ive got his book about the making of the movie and winning an oscar. Im excited for the new bio film about Giger coming out in a couple of months
LOL, I love how humble Mr Giger is about his creation, the Alien - one of the most legendary creature design in history. "...a creature who looked a little scary, and um... yep.." XD At the end the interviewer made a reference to "Aliens", which Mr Giger was NOT allowed to work on, (allegedly was a huge disappointment for him). It was awkward how Giger looked sideways and nodded at the reference. Giger, you are the Man. Your paintings (your babies) inspire me.
Sure some might find giger bizzare but thats what makes him unique, just imagine what goes through his mind when creating masterpieces! Living legend !
Remember going to this museum when I was 7 (thanks dad). Didn't get frightened or anything. Now I'm a fan. Miss you Giger, I wish I could've talked to you at least one time.
✨I was a 13 year old girl when I fell in love with his art and I saved all my money each month to buy his books and especially the Alien editions were incredible and I still have them all 30 years later… love him forever and R.I.P Dear Mr. H.R GIGER..✨
absolutely ancillary and informative to have the master himself with his wife channeling their remarks to us, great is the one who uploaded this as well
Yes you must it's amazing ! I went there and to see Giger's bar and museum in such a pretty town high in the mountains is beautiful and disturbing at the same time and exactly the reaction ,i'm sure ,Giger wants us to have I hope you get the chance to go there :)
It's one huge mindfuck to think what the hell happened to the Alien franchise after the second movie, when they had so much of Giger's work out there just to get inspired by.
he had very special stuff like some jesus painting on the cross and alot weird things. very innovative but also not scared to push the boundaries and even shock some people. alot was inspired by death and evil and the good or bad when we see many of what he has done.
Very informative and interesting interview! Thank you very much ÜR the upload of videos like this! Best regards stuxer German: Sehr informatives und interessantes Interview! Danke vielmals ür das hochladen des Videos davon! Mit freundlichem Gruss stuxer
HRG was not the father of the film ALIEN, but the producers and director Ridley Scott decided to use some of his scetches and artworks and after receiving allowance they invited Giger to London, where he created the set for the space jockey, the alien ship, the eggs, the facehugger and the beast itself. Thanks for sharing this interview with us! Best regards from Austria
Remembering Hans Ruedi "H.R." Giger born on February 5, 1940. He was a Swiss artist best known for his airbrushed images that blended human physiques with machines, an art style known as "bio-mechanical". Giger later abandoned airbrush for pastels, markers and ink. He was part of the special effects team that won an Academy Award for the visual design of Ridley Scott's 1979 sci-fi horror film Alien. His work is on permanent display at the H.R. Giger Museum in Gruyères, Switzerland. His style has been adapted to many forms of media, including album covers, furniture, and tattoos. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H._R._Giger
this is my mentor. this man is the single most influential person artistically ever. that has any as well as very little affect on my over all learning's of me an my art. im self taught. the first payment I received for any art work I ever done was h.r.giger's necronomicon the book. it was my bible. noticed that if you where some what on the same level of thought as the master he taught you. Carmen is very beautiful I might add
I love how irritated he got when the interviewer pulled the line from Alien II and didn't realize that Giger's pained expression wasn't from of exhaustion of Alien film questions or use of lines form the films but the fact that he didn't know that James Cameron removed Giger form his creation in the sequel Cameron using his own alien designs and even worse altering Giger's original work.
Great footage except for when the interviewer asked him if "they came mostly at night." That quote is from the second movie and Giger only worked on the first and third movies. No wonder he looked a bit confused and it took a few seconds for him to catch on.
@bsharporbflat If you look at his other paintings, he has a lot of architecture like that. Bio mechanical bones mixed with machinery, etc. Plus at about 4:30 he says it's probably inside a skeleton type thing.
This guy needs NO inspiration!! Is this interviewer serious?!?! This guy is a living legend!!! I think he should have been interviewed by another artist.... so many questions not asked. I'd give anything to just meet him once being this guy is a serious inspiration for creating to me.. although I do not try to copy his work, not that I couldn't lol. I try to say "Tom" when I do my art, but Giger is one of the many motivations for me.
@kudjo24 What he may do in his free time other than making his amazing artwork can be no worse than what you do or what I do. All humans have dirty, hidden thoughts, this man just chooses to express them and that is what I like about his artwork. It's so human and honest, and expresses the darker side to the human psyche, while being elegant and beautiful at the same time as being harsh, cols and brutal.
I think he looked confused at first about "Do they mostly come at night"...Like "What?" He was a guy who was very out of touch with the outside world in a lot of ways. He wasn't into a lot of the things most people are media wise. I think the guy would have likely become a complete shut in if he hadn't had to maintain the fame of his name.
His voice is ideal 'creepy old man living in a castle'. Perfect.
R.I.P. Giger Truly one of the Davincis of our time. We will never forget you. His art and his legacy will never die!
you probably wouldn't understand, as it is beyond your scope of comprehension apparently.

Of course the guy deletes his shit post..
yeah sjws don't belong anywere, specially here on real art territory.
We could call him the "Dark DaVinci" :-)
Interviewer: "do they mostly come at night? Mostly?" Giger: " the fuck are you talking about?"
I like how he calls his works his "babies". All too appropriate! Visiting his museum us on my bucket list...
RIP to a genius. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world.

I would be too if someone kept asking about it like the interviewer did

HR Giger dedicates time to his artwork...do you think he has time for TV? Nope, he creates!!! It's in his blood.
have i been pronouncing giger wrong? i thought it was giger as in (guy-gurr) not giger like (gee-gurr).
