Thank you Ami for sharing the photographs and stories and insights of your grandmother! Schools should teach kids, especially young girls, about extraordinary women like Lee Miller to inspire them and help them explore their own courage and creativity.😊
I got to hear about Man Ray in my introductory 1900s art history course, I was fascinated by his work, I wish we could've led into Lee Miller through that section! How lovely to have her immortalized here for us!
I went to see the film starring Kate Winslet yesterday portraying your incredible grandmother. You must extremely proud of her. Thank you for sharing her life with us. We should always raise strong women. Thank you Lee Miller for your strength, talent & beauty. Best wishes Karen ♥️
I have been enamoured with Lee Miller for decades. I am thrilled to find this video of her grand-daughter talking about her. What a lovely surprise!!! THANK YOU! And thank you, Ami for doing this! Wonderful.
For me, Miller was yet another example of the prolific photographer group from the Twentieth century. Your Grandmother, Ami, inspired & innovated in an era of tumult - seemingly fearless amongst her peers - & always, always creating powerful yet poignant images; I own several publications that focus (sic) upon the various paths she chose throughout her life - & we should be thankful that she did. Thanks too, to you, for highlighting this incredible woman's work. Slan agus beannacht ! Aindriu.
The thumbnail photo is extraordinary, so I wanted to watch this video and I learned so much. Thanks to Ami for sharing the stories behind some of Lee Miller's wonderful photographs!
Lee Miller is utterly amazing. Love her work as a photographer. Would love to do my PHD on her work, but right now I'm going through her cookbook, which is also great. A true artist, underrated in spite of everything.
Great to hear this personal perspective on Lee Miller. Still disappointed that the estate had @greatartexplained documentary removed. Both videos can coexist.
I first found a book of Lee Miller’s photographs years ago. She has stayed with me. She was a great woman. Thank you, Ami, for bringing this intimate portrait to us.
Wonderful thanks for sharing, I took my husband to watch Lee a few weeks ago at the Hailsham Pavilion and wondered if Lee had ever visited there, the later part of the film made me cry, it was emotional and captivating, I left thinking what a legend. We don’t live too far from Farleys Farm & my husband bought me the book Lee Miller which I’m halfway through. Before this I didn’t know Lee’s history but would sometimes pop into the village shop I always seem to miss the farm opening season, I’m glad I now have better understanding.
What an incredibly powerful, cognizant, and passionate journey Lee has taken us on. This is so well spoken about in the details you mention in the timeline and in her perspective taking thank you. I'm sure she gratefully appreciated the feeling of nurturance and friendship as a balance to witnessing such atrocities and degredation. I am greatly inspired.
Lee Miller is inspiring! But it’s disappointing that, just a couple of weeks ago, the foundation made the Great Art Explained channel remove its excellent Lee Miller video.
I always loved the photo she took in the captured bath tub, with her engineers boots. Thank You for teaching all of us about your Grandmother ❤!!! Hugs from New Orleans Louisiana
Lee's work is amazing and powerful and still resonates today as some things still haven't changed. Thank you for sharing your grandmother! Best wishes.
So interesting. I'm a history student but I never would have heard of her if not for the 2023 film 'Lee' which brought me here. What a woman. Thanks for sharing this.
Love the way you talk about Lee.... and of course, as I keep saying, even when I have visited Farleys, is that we now need a book of Lee's Contact Sheets!!! Paul Clements x
I just watched "Lee" with my mom. Cried a lot and have always been SO inspired by this incredibly talented artist and human being.. I know the film would have to be at least 24 hrs. To attempt to fit her amazing life but I do wish it could have included her breathtaking surrealist photography and era in Paris .. her work is just immaculate
Ooooh I guess I just found my new favorite photographer. I love hearing stories like this about extraordinary people. As an artist and photographer myself, she's going straight into my inspiration album!!!
So inspiring, it's great that the V&A have taken over the briitsh photographic collection and opened the new photographic department, especially wonderful you are giving some amazing insights into the collection.!!
What a remarkable lady, fascinating, thank you for the stories and images of her life. I hope the recent film with Kate Winslet does her justice, I shall be seeing it this weekend.
what a great way to take us through the life of a most amazing woman, thank you Ami for sharing your perception of your grandmother.............a really lovely video
Thank you. This was a great addendum to the movie Lee which we saw yesterday. I had known of her but never knew of her collaboration with Man Ray and many other details you have related here. Great Narration too.
Very cool! So many talented people passed over by text books and school curricular schedules. 'we'll put Margaret Bourke-White in the text and that ticks off women in the war' - TBH, we never had Bourke-White in our 70s texts, but, at least we had her to represent women's progress in Western culture. Now, thanks to the right time and right place, we have this dynamic figure of achievement and lifestyle, Lee Miller. I know it's hard to share and/or learn all that has happened in our busy milieu, but I always feel I've known nothing at all when people like this enter my mind's eye. What a spectacular existence. What a role model for many.
I only found out about this amazing stunningly beautiful woman Lee miller as I’m about to go to the cinema today to watch the film .for her own proud granddaughter to BEAUTIFULLY PRESENT AND ARTICULATE THE VERY BRAVE LIFE OF LEE MILLER YOU HAVE PASSIONATELY. DONE AMAZING WORK THIS IS SO INSPIRATIONAL .YOU CLEARY CAN SEE HER GRANDDAUGHTER HAS INHERITED HER GRANDMOTHERS GENES. LOOKS ETC LEE WILL BE SO PROUND OF HER ❤ ❤❤
I am humbled and incredibly inspired by her work and life. I first became aware of the extent of her work through Great Art Explained’s beautiful documentary on her. This one added more details and insight! Increíble!
If I hadn’t seen this video, I wouldn’t have understood the significance of these pieces. Art is so much more fascinating and digestible when there’s a passionate and knowledgeable person to explain it. ❤
Fantastic! I love her work that has been showcased here. Of course I will check out some more. Great stuff! She was as they say 'ahead of her time'. I don't subscribe to that phrase because those who are considered that way are actually the timely ones and the rest are jusy a bit slow on the uptake.
Very well-done video. I had not heard of Lee until now. From my own experience, the only One Who has been able to enable me to get past painful images and painful memories is Jesus. I can imagine that Lee really suffered through her experiences. Thank you for honoring your grandmother. So many of our ancestors went through so much. USA
Thank you. Ms. Miller was an extraordinary woman that should be celebrated. Her determination not to be defined by others is an inspiration to all. Your interpretation of one of Ms. Miller's photographs, Nazi on the sofa who committed suicide, is troubling. How does that photo lend 'dignity' to the facts before her. Do you believe the photo was staged? Was she not just being a documentarian? Her photographs of the death camps point to someone who would not be interested in giving any 'dignity' to murderous criminals. Is that interpretation directly attributed to Lee Miller?
Just learning about her this year!? I cannot believe I've spent so long not knowing who this wonderful women was. And years ago we just went through people trying to make others believe the camps were not real. I had no idea we were fooled while it was happening... Our society all over the world disappoints me greatly.
Thank you Ami for sharing the photographs and stories and insights of your grandmother! Schools should teach kids, especially young girls, about extraordinary women like Lee Miller to inspire them and help them explore their own courage and creativity.😊
Yes!!! I agree with this completely.
Exactly what I was about to write. 👌🏻
I think they should teach everyone about extraordinary women, that way, everyone will start to respect their abilities at the same time.
So why not let Great Art Explained keep their video up about Lee Miller?
I got to hear about Man Ray in my introductory 1900s art history course, I was fascinated by his work, I wish we could've led into Lee Miller through that section! How lovely to have her immortalized here for us!

Great introduction to her for anyone who's not heard of Miller or seen her work before.
she was a gutsy woman to have taken on the challenges
that she did, at the time she lived in.
I have been enamoured with Lee Miller for decades. I am thrilled to find this video of her grand-daughter talking about her. What a lovely surprise!!! THANK YOU! And thank you, Ami for doing this! Wonderful.
Lee Miller lived. Actually, she LIVED . What a life!
For me, Miller was yet another example of the prolific photographer group from the Twentieth century. Lee Miller is inspiring! But it’s disappointing that, just a couple of weeks ago, the foundation made the Great Art Explained channel remove its excellent Lee Miller video.
kind of shaming for the foundation
Agreed -- and seems fine to show nudity in this video, but GAE videos taken down for far less

Visited the Monschau Exhibition. Very impressing.

Truly inspiring ❤
I love her, for many years.
Wow, that was amazing. I’ve read about her in books about women war reporters. I’m going to look for a biography. I hope there’s a good one.
Excellent. Thank you so much.

What fierce courage. ❤
Incredible. Thank you so much for sharing! Does anyone know the opening song?
Wow! Incredible woman!!
Shame the music interferes. Better to watch with no sound.
She was a phenomenal artist and cook. I'm infuriates by the sexism of post war England that didn't recognize her veracity for so many decades.
Incredible
LOVE this.
The likeness between Lee and Kate winslett is amazing - I suspect in character also.
well done
more that wonderful.. but still wonderful ✨
Stunning.
