Kate Bush - Moments of Pleasure

- Опубліковано 13 сер 2014
- In this song from Kate's seventh album The Red Shoes Kate pays tribute to friends and family who have passed away.
"George the Wipe" was a tape op at Townhouse Studios who back in 1981 accidentally wiped a whole song that had been recorded for her album The Dreaming.
"Maureen" was her Aunt.
"Bubba" was one of her dancers, his name was Gary Hurst.
"S'Murph" was her guitarist Alan Murphy,
"Teddy" John Barratt was her assistant engineer on The Dreaming and Never For Ever albums.
"Michael" Powell was the director of The Red Shoes movie.
"Bill"Duffield was a lighting engineer on her very first live tour.
Michael Kamen arranged and conducted the orchestra for this song, expanding on Kate's original piano accompaniment.
This is a fan made video.

"Just being alive. It can really hurt. Therse moments given are a gift of time."She is very honest, but never despair. I respect this woman.Thank you, Kate.
Bashed my car, crying to this...didnt lift my head off the wheel untill the song had finnished.
I don't know why but Kate writes more poignant, melancholy, emotional, heartbreaking but cathartic music related to death and grieving than any other artist I'm familiar with. She has a large range and a lot of different moods, but nobody can depict the sadness of separation and loss of a loved one in music like she can
Incredibly beautiful song, sung by an unbelievably beautiful woman.
This is how we feel when people we love die and it is the little things which get us and make us cry. Not the grand gestures, but when someone buys us an ice cream unexpectedly or makes us a cup of tea. In every group there is always someone who survives to old age and they are left alone with the memories.
Toyah Wilcox said that when she first heard this song she had to park her car in a lay-by as she was so emotionally overcome she couldn’t see to drive.
Awww I can believe this, I first heard this track on the car radio driving to work.
I always think of that story when I hear this ❤
❤
I can well believe toyah had to pull over ,,,
I did the same with Amoung Angels from 50 words for snow,,,as it had just started to snow and I had it on the CD in the car....x
That lyric, “Just being alive, it can really hurt.” The woman is a genius.
An absolutely stunning song😊
I agree - I cry so hard when I hear this song. Kate's heartfelt lyrics, her gentle voice, her delicate piano and Kamen's filigreed orchestrations just reach into my soul and remind me of so many loved ones who have left this plane of existence before me. I miss them all so much! This video is so nice and I'll forever be in debt to Kate for providing so many hours of listening enjoyment and making me appreciate life and my loved ones even more.
Christ... I love this woman so much....
I just saw this edition and I'm in my office in Buenos Aires crying with emotion. I feel reflected in the comments, it's beautiful
i was 25 (1993) ..listening this song in the car that took me to the last home of my grandma ... i love you JULIETTE
Amazing song,… every old sock meets an old shoe, gives me hope ❤
Kate bush could read me her shopping list and I would hang on her every word like listening to yoda from the empire strikes back.
Back in the room....
This song is beyond emotional!
I cried when I watched this. Beautiful. Thank you Mr Marrs.
Gets me every time Lady, every time.... and I'm a blokey bloke :)
Incredible first time I've heard this. Kate is a genius
Absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for making this, it fits the song beautifully :)
Pure genius, pure quality that is Kate xx
I am moved to tears Mr. Marrs! Kate must be beyond flattered that you would honour her and her gorgeous work in such a profoundly beautiful way. There is one image of Kate walking beside Del, I am assuming walking behind the hearse carrying her mother's casket, which is heartbreaking. Her "whole story" is here.
Thank you so much Rose. The image in the video of Kate walking beside Del was at the funeral of her longtime guitarist and friend Alan Murphy, also known as "S'Murph"
@@MrMarrs OH! Thank you, and I am fascinated to read about who Kate was writing about in the song, below the video. I know a little bit about her personal life, and read a biography about her, but I didn't know who "Maureen" was, or "George the Wipe," and several others she names in this beautiful song. One of my favourites!
Absolutely stunning!
Some moments that I've had
Some moments of pleasure
I think about us lying
Lying on a beach somewhere
I think about us diving
Diving off a rock, into another moment
The case of George the Wipe
Oh God I can't stop laughing
This sense of humor of mine
It isn't funny at all
Oh but we sit up all night
Talking about it
Just being alive
It can really hurt
And these moments given
Are a gift from time
On a balcony in New York
It's just started to snow
He meets us at the lift
Like Douglas Fairbanks
Waving his walking stick
But he isn't well at all
The buildings of New York
Look just like mountains through the snow
Just being alive
It can really hurt
And these moments given
Are a gift from time
Just let us try
To give these moments back
To those we love
To those who will survive
And I can hear my mother saying
"Every old sock meets an old shoe"
Isn't that a great saying?
"Every old sock meets an old shoe"
Here come the Hills of Time
Hey there Maureen,
Hey there Bubba,
Dancing down the aisle of a plane,
'S Murph, playing his guitar refrain,
Hey there Teddy,
Spinning in the chair at Abbey Road,
Hey there Michael,
Do you really love me?
Hey there Bill,
Could you turn the lights up?
Her eyes get you. So expressive. Love the glare stare in the headdress in Babooshka.
every old sock needs an old shoe🥰 priceless ❤️
Meets an old shoe.
Beautiful song. It's so moving that Kate wrote the chorus for her mother who was very ill at that time.
I don't remember if I already wrote this but it seems to me that the instrumentals of this song inspired Björk when she was writing music for the musical "Dancer in the dark" (for which she should have gotten Oscar and she didn't even get a nomination. At least she got Palme D'Or in Cannes). Extremely beautiful and moving song.
Anyone who has ever lost a loved one,but i think ESPECIALLY their mum, knows the agony @ 1:22.
I haven't heard this song before. After hearing this song I read the Lyrics and re read Mr Marrs comments and listened to the song again > WOW!! A fantastic tribute to the people who made her famous. Thanks for the post

Every old sock ….❤
Terrific- one of your very best!
thank you Trev.
Absolutely amazing! What a brilliant job you've done. I can feel the love and time and energy that went into this. I pray that Kate gets to see this!
Excellent imagery of a life well-lived and well-loved, Mr Marrs. It will take a while for me to get over seeing Kate sad. She's a lot stronger than me.
This song feels like her grieving for Del this week. She will be very sad 😔
He was the luckiest man ever. RIP
@michaelrandall9034 Yes he so was!!
I’ve shared so many of these songs and then I found your list. It appears that we have strikingly similar taste in music.
OMG...I can't believe that this was not a collaborative creation. Does the genius know that there is another genius infusing new visual life into her work above and beyond anyone before? Please tell me you have been corresponding, I must see what kind of collaboration could come of this, and I want more...your work is breathtaking!!!
WOW Sooooooooooooo love this song and this aaaaaaamazing video👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😪😪

Beautiful piece of work. Thank you dearly.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful and so understated and evocative.
Mums......always have great sayings : )
I couldn't agree more
wow so beautiful you put some faces to the names, thank you
Can't beat the original CD for sound quality IMO, digitally recorded, mixed and mastered, played through a hybrid valve CD player.
Used to audition Hi-Fi equipment with this track, if that first "pleasure" brought a tear to the eye the gear was a winner...
Really moving One of her best songs Love it 😊
I adore this it beats the official video by a country mile (sorry Kate!) It's the clips and snippets of the people and places she sings about that make it for me. Gorgeous.
I disagree. The original video is very personal. The spinning in the snowstorm is magical, when all the departed loved ones reappear.
Thank you for seeing the KOSMIC in KATE *kiss kiss*
Beautiful 😍
Above and beyond MrMarrs. Magical how you have melded together the choice of imagery to a beautiful song, perfect. A wonderful tribute from your heart to Kate xx
I didn't expect to be so moved by this video. It came up by chance (long time KB fan from childhood buying Wuthering Heights) You have done a really beautiful job, creating a fusion of sound and image. Well done.
Her greatest ever track imo.
+sodthong I would second that. This is a very personal song.

Dame Kate Bush.
Way overdue.
This video is a profoudly moving tribute to a song which is itself a deeply moving tribute to the people in her life who have passed away. A really beautiful piece of work Brian.
I always wondered about that line. Thank you so much for enlightening!

Merci brother !.
