  • DJI Mini 3 PRO Toroidal prop 37.40 after some flow simulation optimization.
These produce the same lift at the same RPM. Noise profile is looks similar with about the same primary amplitude, but with slightly lower harmonics. I wouldn't say they sound better, but slightly different.
I will post a comparison video of the standard prop so you can hear it in the same environment, although keep in mind the microphone gain is probably automatically scaled by the phone, so it's still not safe to compare audio volume.

I've heard about these, they look weird but seem to work well. Thanks for the video. Are these going into production at some point in the future, or are they designed for a specific type of drone?

Any chance I could get your .stl or .stp file(s) for these? I would like to try printing some on my Bambu X1C with various materials.

Hi. I'm still working to improve them with flow simulation. However, if it get them working well enough to be better than the standard prop, I already have some other parties interested in licensing the design. However, if everyone passes on buying them because they aren't that much better, then I'll certainly make them available for everyone to print.
I would recommend using resin though. FDM will make a very rough surface with less strength in certain directions. You'll have to do a lot of sanding and finishing to make it smooth enough be of any value, and at that point the shape may have changed. It can be done, but it's best if you have sand blasting and painting equipment to get a good uniform finish. It's hard to find a material that holds its shape and then isn't so ridged it shatters at maximum RPM. But if I find a good resin to use and no one else is going to license and sell a molded/carbon fiber version of it, maybe I'll also consider selling them for people who don't have what's needed to print their own.
Stay tuned and we'll see how it goes.
