The one tip you gave and the other video or this video was make sure to lift up your index finger and now I'm having the same problem I'm having with the pinky of not keeping it completely open and trying to keep everything close to the board as possible. Although I definitely see what you're saying cuz it is like I'm was anchoring my finger before which really definitely made it a lot more cumbersome I figured we just overcome with time but it does really change up your playing my lifting your index so that's a positive testimonial right there for a free guitar lesson

My biggest enemy is consistent practice. I struggle with inspiration and having energy to play. One day I’ll play 6 hours and not want to put the guitar down but the next 3 days I wont play at all. It’s a very toxic habit I wish I squished right when I started playing guitar 6 years ago.

That means you're what we call an "artist." An artist needs inspiration. In my youth I was in a band. We often got bored of "practice" so we changed to a jam session. Meaning freestyle improvisation with guitar, drums and bass. 2-3 people playing together but playing whatever they feel like playing can be really fun as long as it's all in one key.
@@jdogdizzle8473 that’s exactly what I do with my band now, but I wish I put less practice into guitar hero and played rocksmith instead 😂 but actually rocksmith isn’t the best way to learn songs because the way it works can teach you toxic finger shapes, but their technique teaching is great. Taught me how to properly bend along with teaching me scales. Jesus Christ I should probably get ADHD meds
I almost dropped it completely after only playing a year in 2004 and it sounds like your going through the same thing I went through..Mentally you’re telling yourself I need to practice more and I’m not good enough, when in reality you should be approaching the guitar the same way you did on the first day you ever played because that feeling of mystery and excitement of learning and not knowing what to expect but all you do know is you wanted a guitar to play and that’s all that mattered! That passion and love never goes away and you still have it in your soul and heart but mentally your mind is giving you a hard time and making you think of guitar now as a chore instead your place to get away and actually be happy and at one with the instrument..instead of being excited to pick it up when you see it your mind automatically says well that means I’m gonna have to practice for 2-3 hours and do scales instead of getting home and literally running to the guitar when you get through the door..I only stopped playing for two months back in 2004..Dimebag is my #1 guitarist and hero so when Dimebag died on Dec 8th of 2004 I had dropped the guitar two months prior to his death..when I got home and seen it on the news I cried and picked up my guitar immediately and began jamming Cemetery gates..From that point on I told myself that it happened for a reason and dedicated myself to continuing his legacy and paying my respect by making sure people remember Dimebag and the plethora of amazing music he left us with..Within’ in a month I had progressed more than I did my entire first year..Don’t let it happen to you man and music is a gift that should be embraced and always fun..don’t take it to serious and go back to your roots and the reason you started playing to begin with..I always put an album on that inspires me on the way home from work so I’ll be it’ll the zone and makes me wanna play..I’m telling you though bro you should go pick your guitar up today and play..what’s the worst that could happen? You have a jam session and get to play some tunes! WIN WIN bro
@@LogAsp11 oh dude lately it’s been my entire life. I’m a bassist in a band, and I have like bass solos and stuff and I still play guitar for hours a day purely because I want to. It was something I was battling but I found an opportunity to make it my life and I took it. Time I’ve spent with my band members have been the best of my life and idk where I’d be without them. I have the same birthday as Dimebag, August 20th. I was born in 2005, so he was gone by the time I was born unfortunately. But I love Pantera and have his signature crybaby wah pedal and I have a dimeoflage too. Actually have a Pantera phone case.

It's the HR Giger (Alien) model so it's fully intentional
Pretty sure they were designed that way, but I'm not sure. I know it's an engraved HR Giger Ibanez, but I don't know for sure if the corrosion on the knobs is by design

Ibanez had a line of guitars that were designed by h.r. giger I think in the late 90s early 00s. I think there were rg and s series with that design actually.
@@thunderfox8896 sure is. Like the other person said, he did an RG series and S series. They come with the HR Giger cases as well. The RG version is absolutely insane

Think if it as up down might be the best tip I’ve heard. I sort of just vibrate my write and I just started learning sort of fast solos after a year and I always get caught not really picking strings on weird or uncomfortable runs. Imma go try it

I’ve been playing guitar for some time now, and I always had trouble picking fast. Whenever I try, I end up either missing the string a bunch of times, or my pick catches and interrupts my flow with a big “TWANG!”
I never really stopped to think about whether the issue might be in my picking angle and/or hand motion. I’m so glad I found this video, and I’m going to start using your tips in my practice right away!

With Legato I strongly advise to pick the first note very gently with the plectrum.
This ensures your first note will have the same dynamics as the hammer-ons and pull-offs (hopefully!)

Not sure I follow the second tip. Should I switch that angle with every pick when trying to play as fast as you do in the sample (which I am not even close to being able to do btw.)?
Bernth. You are a highly skilled and great guitarist, but I would love to see some technique videos for simple but chugging riffs or even melodic/ballad solos on your channel rather than just a lot of shred. Might be the wrong channel but I admire the amount of practice you've put in. It shows
You are very right for scales and doubling the position to get an even number
...which have been overdone and are not very musical. What about crosspicking...without the sweep.
Then you will need the curve to a certain degree

For 1. think about Muhammed Suicmez, he played at extreme picking speeds while going extremely aggressive while picking, same with the insane genius riffs of his.

was playing for years with my middle finger, ring and pinky hanging down after closing my hand and smaller picks i notice a big diffference in precision, accuracy, and my wrist not feeling wore out.
Crazy, I started playing at the age of 12, I'm now 30. I just now today learned that pick angles are even a thing people think about.... I just play and have never once thought about pick angle, looking back in hindsight though I've always employed pick angle just never knew it was a thing.

I have almost 900 hours on guitar. I first picked the thing up almost 2 years ago. My picking is still s**t. I spend more time f*****g with my strap length and my picks than I do playing I think. Was helpful... Did subscribe. I need all the help I can get.

I've always had trouble picking faster. I think I use the first technique which is maybe why. But I have serious trouble coordinating my hands using other techniques.

I had a rhythm guitarist that literally could not upstroke everything had to be down so strumming sounded awful I made him a bassist so he could focus on one string at a time
Bass. Then the guy couldn't play pizzicato so i was out by that point I wont tolerate a bassist with a pick

I've always done my picking wrong. It just feels much more natural to pick with my forearm rather than wrist. Going to change that now.

Thank you. Very helpful. Would you recommend the same pick holding and hand posture for acoustic picking and/or strumming or more of a David Gilmour type soloing, as one example, for electric.
I struggle getting your forearm angle and pick resting on forefinger "bridge" (curled in finger) because I have long arms and big hands. Holding pick this way, for example, caused constant tension on ligament to first finger. I tend to feel most comfortable with finger pointing toward point of pick using somewhere between the side and pad of my finger. But my accuracy never seems to increase.
In short are there any peers out there with long arms and big hands that may have a video specifically dealing with that situation?
Even my fretting hand, small or large radius necks don't seem to make any difference. My thumb is too long to put behind neck about even with second finger...impossible thumb position for me, so I do what everyone says not to and have it pointed toward headstock above fingers. 🤷♂️
If anyone else struggles with this please feel free to give any advice. I don't want to give up. I can play chords and keep time this way but mainly only on certain songs.

Can you elaborate on how the first two tips work together? To me it seems that if you add the picking angles from the second tip to the flat motion from the first tip, it inevitably leads to the curved motion that you say should be avoided.
