  • Hello, My name is Matt.
Welcome to my channel and the Unboxing - video for the Audient Nero Monitor Controller
The quest to 'optimize the PedalScapes workflow continues...
So this is the unboxing and in place test - keep in mind that the audio for the test was captured on a Phone so not the highest quality, plus it was handheld so well unsteady cam... but what can you do?
The plumbed in unit now sits under the monitor on the PedalScapes work bench/desk. Where it joins either the Evo 16 or the SSL12 to either set of monitors.
    So thoughts on the unit:
Pretty useful studio tool, have used passive monitor controllers in the past but this is active and has some great features...
Having recently setup the Mackie Big Knob, I was concerned that it sounded much lower through the unit than connected directly, even at maximum (as it's a passive unit and offers no amplification or boost. Thought this would not be a problem but soon began searching for an active replacement. Said search leading to Nero.
The Mono, mute and dim all function as expected.
Initial thoughts are: a useful tool and great addition to the PedalScapes setup.
    Missed opportunity on marketing blurb:
    "Fiddle on while Rome burns!"

Thanx for introducing this controller. Can I simply exchange it with my Mackie BigKnob Studio+. I ask this, because I couldn’t see a USB connector to connect it to my DAW? The Mackie provides more than everything I need, but meanwhile when turning the big knob I hear those well known analog noises which only disappear when I quickly turn the knob a few times (hope you know what I mean). It’s quite more expensive than my Mackie, but is it also that better?

      Hi, thanks for feedback.
Re. your question. There is no USB connector on the Nero. My Mackie was the passive Big Knob not the studio+ which is more of a soundcard solution, is that correct? The Nero will need to be fed audio from an existing sound source. If you have an audio interface with coax or light pipe out, you can connect digitally at 24bit. Not tried that yet but hope to soon as part of a planned reconfig.
      Hope that helps.
      Cheers, Matt 😎
