    Lemme see if I can “chime-in” with some useful information.
    First of all, each platform is excellent in their own right. But I think it’s important to acknowledge and understand that the functionality and layout of the cockpit itself has fundamentally changed since the introduction of both pieces of software.
    So having said that, the choice between either becomes a “workflow” preference, and how the pilot can best integrate all the information presented - on and off ship - so as to prevent becoming task saturated.
    With that in mind - and as a subscriber to both platforms - I give ForeFlight the slightest edge if *only* because it can be “split-screened” with other (iPad, not iPhone!) apps. Other than that, I believe once the user becomes adept with the nuances of each software package, I’ve found these apps to be at a dead-heat.

      Phil, I totally agree with you... it's a workflow and/or UI preference. Thanks for commenting! Wayne (DA40 KSBA)

    You must have "Southern" roots: I'll 'DALEY" just a little bit here, Love it!!
    Great SIDE-by-SIDE comparison, they appear to be very similar.

      Ron, my roots are all west of Appalachia (western NY, PA, so midwest in nature and vocabulary. Indeed, I'm guessing that ForeFlight and Garmin Pilot are more similar than they are different. Thanks for watching! Wayne

    What do you use to provide AHRS for ForeFlight? Thanks for ANOTHER interesting and instructive video :)

    • @GeezerGeekPilot
      @GeezerGeekPilot  3 роки тому +2

      Jim, I have 2 options to drive the AHRS in ForeFlight... the GTX345R from my G1000 panel, or the Stratus 2. I choose to use the Stratus so that I have backup AHRS 100% independent of ship power. Thanks for watching the videos, I appreciate the interest. Thanks! Wayne (DA40 KSBA)

      @@GeezerGeekPilot Thanks, Wayne. I use the FS-210 via Connext for AHRS in FF and the synthetic vision is not very stable, unlike what I saw in your video. I am looking forward to Part 2!!

    Regarding your autopilot, it looked like (at least at first) you didn't have the course needle pointing in the direction of the course. The KAP140 gets confused in NAV mode unless the needle is at least close to the right direction. Also, for LPV approaches, for the KAP 140 you have to manually activate the GS when prompted by a message. You the hit the PROC key, activate Enable A/P APR Outputs then hit the APPR key on the KAP140. It appeared in the video there was a message flashing.

      @DA40Fan, wow that's good insight! Jan flies this club KAP-equipped DA40 and I'll make sure he sees your comment. Of course, for my DA40/GFC700 it's not an issue (and thus my total ignorance :-). Thanks for watching (so carefully) and for taking the time to provide such good info! Wayne (DA40 KSBA)

    • @janaleman
      @janaleman 2 роки тому +1

      You are correct. I have seen this before our in DA40 as well. And for some time our DA40 did this quite well, you have the needles going correct, then go NAV and it will work. However in the past months our NAV function is consistently failing and puts the plane in a left turn. You are also correct on the second point, there is a series of steps you need to follow with the KAP140 and if you dont follow them it doesnt work.

    • @da40fan27
      @da40fan27 2 роки тому

      @@janaleman Thanks. So far the KAP140 in my 2003 DA40 continues to work well. I'm adding an Aspen EFD this month. Hopefully, that will improve performance.

    you could include in your comparisons « Air Navigation » much better done and cheaper than « Foreflight » for VFR helicopter operations, much easier and more practical to insert coordinates in flight, especially during forest firefighting operations, and show us other practical advantages.

    No question ForeFlight is top self, but they do force you into purchasing an expensive iOS product. If ForeFlight was available for Android, I'd probably try it, to me Apple is overrated and over priced. iFlyEFB runs on Android, Windows, and iOS...as it should be.

    • @GeezerGeekPilot
      @GeezerGeekPilot  4 місяці тому

      Tim, thanks for commenting. For some reason, EFB authors (Garmin Pilot in particular) seem to have difficulty developing a product on Android that is of the same quality and currency as their iOS product. Wayne (DA40 KSBA)
