  • Grupo Yurumeina is a ensemble of Honduran musicians living and playing in the city of New Orleans, Louisiana, enlivening audiences with a powerful mixture of voices, conch shells, and drums. The group plays and sings music in its native language, Garífuna, which belongs to the Garinagu, a proud and culturally distinct people of Afro-Indigenous descent from Central America. Using the rhythms of Punta and Paranda, Grupo Yurumeina traces an ancestral line from the north coast of Honduras to the west coast of Africa, where the antecedents of these rhythms came with enslaved peoples brought to the "New World." This is music to enjoy and to dance to, and we hope the songs of Grupo Yurumeina get you up and moving!
