Mahmoud Chouki - Letter From The Porch

Mahmoud Chouki is a guitarist, multi-instrumentalist and composer. Mood trained at the Conservatory of Larache in Morocco and the National Conservatory in Rabat with a focus in music theory and classical guitar. His repertoire integrates the sounds and rhythms of various regions and instruments from North Africa and the Middle East including instruments of the Maghreb and Africa. His music draws from classical, Andalusian, Levantine, Maghrebian, Latin, and Jazz traditions. At the age of eighteen, Mood won first prize in the International Guitar Competition in St. Esteban del Puerto, Spain. He has performed around the world including the Magic Lutes Concerts, the Symphonic Orchestras in Qatar (2011) and Bahrain (2013), Pireneos Sur Festival in Sallent de Gallego, Spain, Snug Harbor in New Orleans, Cafe de la Danse, Paris, World Music Fest in South Korea, Sala Radio, and Romania. Mood is the Artistic Director of Rencontre Orient-Occident at Chateau Mercier in Sierre, Switzerland, where he organizes annual artist residencies bringing together master musicians from east and west culminating in a final concert.
